I remember a story my mom told me from when I was about four or five. We were visiting some family friends, and when my dad said, “Well, we have a few things to do and some places to go,” I interrupted and said, “No we don’t —we're going home!"

(Or if you have kids and don't mind sharing a funny story)

I remember walking into the living room where my parents were entertaining guests. I had heard this new word on the school bus, and I blurted out in front of all of them, "What does F-ck mean?" Just remember a combination of gasps and laughter in response.

I remember that it was the very first time I'd heard the word, and I truly had zero idea it was anything negative, so I blurted out this question like I was asking about how gravity works. I was too young for a real explanation. I was probably 6 or 7. I just remember Mom advising that it was not a word for kids and like the other "swear" words best avoided. Mom was a tad mortified....Dad and the other guys were trying not to bust out laughing. There were some laughs. I remember that. It wouldn't take long before the "kids on the bus" would explain what it meant along with all other wisdoms of the expanding juvenile world. That school bus was an interesting place, also being the first place I saw marijuana being smoked.

I remember being annoyed that I didn't have a middle name when I was about 8 so I invented one and wrote my name on school books as 'Richard Charles Haydon'. My Mum thought it was very funny and a 'phase'.

I remember being at a parent-teacher meeting in first grade where my teacher told my Mom that I was mooing in class. It was really hard trying to keep a straight face.

My Dad told me I was, evidently, very resistant to toilet training at first.

That's actually really cool/creative you would do that.

When I first read it, it almost triggered a memory for me, like I did something like this.

My parents woke me up on the first day of school and said something like "Mike, it's your first day of school." My response as a five year old was something like "so what?" Ok, I suppose no one was embarrased with that one.

Apparently some guy said to me when I was a kid "where did you get all those freckles" and my reponse was (according to my mom) "same place you got your big nose." I would often play the nose card apparently. On another occasion I told a guy who was talking to my dad that he had a big nose and he said it was in the guiness record book on page 17. I remember looking in that book on page 17 but couldn't find him. I was so pissed off that he lied to me.

I hope you still use it now. If not then I guess it's not too late right? I'm actually not a big fan of my middle name.

No it was actually a phase so Mum was right. If I did use one then I would maybe use my Dad's given name Colin, that would be nice as he is no longer with us and the comfortable life I have is down almost entirely to him.

I talked to a friend today and mentioned this topic.. He said his parents had friends over, and he had no bedroom and would have to sleep on the couch that would fold up into a bed, but would have to wait for the guests to leave before he could sleep. A woman asked "Is that where you sleep?" and he said "No, my little brother sleeps there" (despite being an only child)

When I was about three years old, I lived in England with my parents and siblings. A few times a year my grandparents (my mum's parents) used to come from Scotland to visit. They would either get the train or get a flight.

One day my dad told me that my Nana was "flying on her broomstick" to visit us.
When she arrived I looked outside and asked my Nana "where is your broomstick? My dad said you were flying on a broomstick".
My dad still talks about this and says I got him into trouble.

Going upstairs and peeing loud into the centre of the toilet bowl, while my parents had guests in the lounge directly below....

She saw the funny side of it. I think my dad was just embarrassed that I asked about the broomstick.
