And if you can (please), list (as best as you can) the writers and/or co-writers of the song.. I'm usually interested when a musician in a great band names songs they love that they didn't write.

In "Far Out" magazine, David Gilmour named his 6 favorite Pink Floyd songs:

-Comfortably Numb (co-written with Roger)
-Echoes (all members are credited)
-Shine On You Crazy Diamond (co-written with Roger)
-Wish You Were Here (co-written with Roger)
-High Hopes (co-written with Polly)
-The Great Gig In The Sky (Wright/Torry)

Confused - the title says songs of the musician's own discography, then you mention songs "they didn't write" then you list Gilmour songs, most of which he co-wrote.

That's not what I said..

Also, tere's a LOT of songs Gilmour didn't write, but whose contributions are still great. They're still a part of it. I just think its cool when someone doesn't just pick all their own songs as their favorites, that's all.

Rick Wakemans 10 favorite songs (that he didn't write):

Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd - Roger Waters - He said it sounded so unlike Pink Floyd)
Stay with Me (The Faces - Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood - loves it for the keyboard part)
Hold Your Head Up (Argent - Chris White and Rod Argent - loves the organ solo)
All Right Now (Free - Andy Fraser and Paul Rodgers)
Stuck in the Middle With You (Stealer's Wheel - Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan)
Question (The Moody Blues - Justin Hayward)
Black Night (Deep Purple - the entire band is credited for writing)
Rocking All Over the World (Status Quo - John Fogerty)
School's Out (Alice Cooper - Alice Cooper, Glen Buxton, Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith)
Brown Sugar (The Rolling Stones - Mick Jagger, Keith Richards)

I know it's not his own discography, but that's his list.

Well actually it is, because the thread's title is "Favorite Songs of the Musician's Own Discography" and in the OP you mentioned songs "they didn't write" - because I've copied the text from the OP.

And so far one person's posted a list of songs that Ian Anderson did write, and someone else has posted a list of songs that Rick Wakeman didn't write so maybe it's not clear? Apologies if I've misunderstood.

It may not be what you meant, but it is what you appeared to be saying. Being someone that has been misunderstood more than once in this forum (and pretty much throughout my life), I know that it is sometimes hard to write what you mean.

What I assumed you meant, until you gave your example, was that you wanted lists of songs where a member of a band gave their favourite songs, and they were not ones written by the member listing them. However your example was of a member of a band giving a list of favourite songs by his band, that mostly included him in the writing credits.

The only thing that seems clear, is how unclear the premise of this discussion is, and it’s no wonder those answering, are making their own interpretation of what you might have meant. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cool idea..but for me too much research needed. If you mention a song liked and don't have supporting evidence, you will get red ink here.......LOL

I thought  he meant the songs from the artist's own albums...and he posted a list by Gilmour that he wrote or co wrote. Therefore I posted the ones Ian Anderson liked the best with his own band.
But he did also say that 'they didn't write'..so he did sort of contradict his own statement.
