I would extend the question to rock music in general, not just prog, and I would clearly prefer the 60s and 70s.

Well, in my opinion there very few true prog albums in the sixties(maybe half a dozen) one of which of course would be King Crimson's debut. I added it as a decade because I know many on here would be disappointed and upset if I didn't include it.

Are you serious? You don't listen to any modern prog at all?

Definitely the '70s, followed by the 60's. The "oughts" would be third.
Welcome to the middle of the film.

Hi,

I'm concerned with the question ... I've been listening for 50 years, and to specify which time is best is stupid (for me) and insane. It's like asking if Mozart's time was better than Beethoven's ... and my only response and idea is ... folks simply are not listening to the music to know better than consider a topic like this.

There is great music everywhere, but some folks simply won't listen to it ... it was happening in the 60's and 70's and it is happening now ... and because of the MEDIA, the elitism that comes with it is sick ... totally sick and ugly in the worst terms! Cry
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I'm sorry you feel it's a stupid question. Everyone has their favorites and I wanted to see where people stand on that. As you can see some people only prefer music from one decade and don't bother with others. This was meant to be fun so sorry if the poll offends you in any way.

I'm surprised there's so few votes from the 90's since it was a really exciting time period for the genre with a lot of good stuff coming out. I guess most people on know Dream Theater and one or two others but really there was a whole lot more.

Definitely the 1970s.  After that, dunno.  Every decade since has had some great prog.  I would literally have to go through my reviews and count the number of 4 star and greater reviews from each decade.  I really have no idea, but it might be a fun exercise

I listen to more stuff from the 00's & 10's than anything else currently.

We need to be serious! There's no fun allowed here!! What do you think this is? An internet forum?
