^ First vinyl copy I bought of GFTO, (as a ‘gold star’ grading), sounded like there was a clump of dust on my stylus, but I change the stylus regularly (more often than statistics say) so I dealt with it. Years later, convinced the vinyl was shot, I bought another (allegedly) pristine copy. It sounded the same. I still have that LP, and it still sounds the same. Do I like the album still - yes, I love it. Must be the production or mastering.....??
Oh yeah, this is a couple of turntables later..... Edited by Tom Ozric - July 25 2020 at 01:29 |

I was sure I was gonna bother someone with my comment. Let's see - Howe torturing the guitar on the title track... he suffocates that song. Sometimes less is more. Turn of the Century - never did much for me, I've never understood the hype. Wonderous Stories - nice little ballad, harmless So for me there are two great songs on the album. |

Hamster playing the synthesiser, although it's actually a Roland, not a Nord.

Going for the One. That rodent sounds like some Keith Emerson-dept with limitations.

The only problem for me is the amount of reverb on everything turns it into a soggy mush. They actually fixed this on Tormato, which for some reason cops even more sh*t from the production side. But c'mon, Tormato at least sounds sharper and less clouded compared to GFTO.

I just think the overall sound of the music is too bright and lacks the grit and intensity of the previous albums and yes, the production hurts my poor ears. Every now and then you'll just be destroyed by some ear-rape synth or vocal line. Decent album though.

I'm not sure if it's a nord or not but unsurprisingly I was able to find something. |

Haa! The hamster returns again, and just for the record, he's playing a Roland synthesiser.

This thread has been taken over by the hamster, just like Cristi said it would. There are now four of the same videos of the hamster scampering about on the keyboard, and he's already picked up a vote in the poll for the most entertaining keyboard solo.

GFTO due to Awaken, but Interview otherwise.

Both have a killer track ( Interview and Parallels) but I find GFTO just a bit too much of a case of a band turning back on itself and almost becoming almost a 'self parody'.
Awaken - love the church organ and kudos for an original ending. Wonderous Stories is very appealing and so different to anything else at the time. The title track is odd but I don't dislike it. Turn of the Century is quite pretty. Yes its all good but I would rather listen to other albums they did. GG were still forging ahead and no reason that it should be considered one of their weaker albums. Perhaps the bits of talking in between tracks is a bit off putting but it's not a deal breaker for me. Interview gets my vote.
