As far the prog rock goes, I really don't like untitled albums (The Beatles' White Album, Led Zeppelin's IV). That's a bold statement but it's just annoying me.

And now, the best name for an album - ever!

Utopia - Ooops, wrong planet!Clap

The White Album had a title - it was called "The Beatles". Not the best title, I agree. Led Zep IV didn't have an official title.

Two albums by Yes always brought a question mark to my face:

Yes
The Yes Album

At the other end of the spectrum probably my favorite group of all time, The Mahavishnu Orchestra used to get a little carried away with the titles of their albums:

Between Nothingness and Eternity
Visions of the Emerald Beyond

ah yeah, sure, ok.

"Systematic Chaos" sounds cheesy and stupid. As do all those (oxy)moronic titles like Deafening Silence, Blinding Darkness, Smart Idiot, etc.

Mott the Hoople-
Mott - (6th Album 1973)
The Hoople - (7th Album 1974)

After a run of fairly original album titles,Ma Kelly's Greast Spoon,Dog of Two Heads etc. Status Quo came up with -
Hello (1973) and Quo (1974).

They must have been drnking the same 'beverages' as Mott the Hoople.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Hmmm, oxymorons as album titles... I kind of like the idea, but it's becoming overused (or already has?).
This is off the topic, but more than unoriginal album titles, I get a bit annoyed by uncreative album covers, such as a picture of the band members gathered together in a row and looking at the camera (or if they want to point out how "indie" they are, avoiding looking at the camera - as much a cliche).

One of my favorite oxymoronic (and deeply meaningless) titles is Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia.

In defense of Peter Gabriel's 4 untitled albums - I thought that was a brilliantly original idea and wish he hadn't bowed to record-company pressure with So and had carried on the tradition. I am certain the American record-buying puplic could cope with the concept, it is the suits at Geffen that couldn't (hence the silly names: car, scratch, melt and man-with-goggles-and-a-gob-full-of-golfballs)

I like the idea of people incorporating the number of the album into the title, at least is shows some sense of thought going into it - like Seventh Son of a Seventh Son , X Factor and First XI (Ironing Maiden), 6pm (Phil Manzanera), Octane (Spock's Bread), Three Friends (Gentle Giant)... and Zep's Fourth Album Big%20smile

Definitely Maybe is the best of this lot.

Not naming the album looks cool to me, there are many that I fancy, some of my favourites being:

... I love the ambiguity: what is it that we're offered to behold - a name, a title, a declaration of intents, all of them?

But the best was to put nothing on... Nothing. To let music speak for itself, no other stimulus required:

For me the worst are eponymous albums that are not even their debut, live albums called just live and numbers or names with words rooted on numbers (octane, octavarium, etc) and not in a clever way (like Seventh Son of a Seventh Son).

What about misleading titles. Albums that don't do what they say on the tin? Such as Queen's "Jazz", or "Best of the Eagles". (a bit like saying, "the tastiest pot noodle".)

Perception is truth, ergo opinion is fact.

Even though I love the album, "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" is an amazingly bad album title.

(I usually pronounce it "Six Degrees....<screamed> OF INNER TURBULENCE!!!")

In the case of Jazz, I love that title just because there isn't any Jazz on the album. Great fun. Big%20smile

One really cheesy album title is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, though the album is quite enjoyable. I've always found The Yes Album to be a painfully unimaginative title. None of them are that unoriginal though.

Ry Cooder's Jazz as well.?.........................................my least favourite RC album.

At least Simon Rattle's Jazz had a goodly  sample of 20th century jazz classics.

Because the various "The best Of...", "The Very Best Of...", "Greatest Hits" or "Le Più Belle Canzoni Di..." (in English: "The More Beautiful songs Of...")  aren't stupid titles?

This reminds me of an even more silly record company mishap made with a band called Pesky Gee! (who later evolved into Black Widow). When asked what the album was to be called, the band wrote it would be called 'Pesky Gee exclamation mark' which was intended to be eponymously titled 'Pesky Gee!'. Instead, the record company actually called the album 'Exclamation Mark'....ConfusedLOL

Then there are album titles that sum up the contents quite admirably such as Pink Floyd's 'A Momentary Lapse Of Reason', or have a certain irony such as Caravan's 'Better By Far'.

As for unoriginal album titles, Curved Air's 'Second Album' I always felt was stating the obvious. Atomic Rooster also almost had TWO eponymous albums; their debut was annoyingly titled 'Atomic Roooster' (with 3 Os) and then their comeback album around 1980 was called 'Atomic Rooster'. The problem with that is, I'm sure my Repertoire CD of the debut album lists it as 'Atomic Rooster'....Confused yet??LOL

Especially when in the UK alone the Beach Boys greatest hits compilations (or variants on that title) are now well into double figures! Worst when you get Bach' or Beethoven's greatest hits.......

Neal Morse's "?". Well, actually I suppose it's original but it causes a problem when you try to store the MP3s on your pooter, as you can't have a question mark in a folder name.
