.. well I'll always go with Gilmour.  He's my hero.  I appreciate the experimental Floyd more than I do the psychadelic Floyd...

Should never compare the two methinks...

And according to Gilmour (I read somewhere) Syd did participate somewhat more than just 'Jugband Blues' on the album "A Saucerful of Secrets".

"Let There be More Light" and I believe another song or two has some Syd contribution(s) on it...
Marmalade...I like marmalade.

Without a single hesitation Gilmour.

Barret would've faded doon or later but sooner was it. In the long run , even without his ill-fated destiny, he would not last. Too hip and fad-prone.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

David Bowie is rather hip and fad-prone, but he's still around.

But Bowie changed himself with every fashion... he had a much more aggressive personality than Syd ever did.

I agree, that's the reason he survived. Syd didn't flame-out because he was fad-prone but because of different reasons all together. I think it was really just genetic; he was schizophrenic, and of course the drugs didn't help that condition.
