Thule -  debute Ultime Thule is a must have and the follow up is very good, but it is from hte early 90s but have the sound you would like.

AMLoR was a very good and a very disappointing record--  think New Coke.

Some great suggestions in here. However, if this could help, neo prog in general does not answers my question, since I'm searching for a sort of 80s pop made with a bit of progness, not prog made with a bit of 80sness :D

Oh yeah, early, 80's Talk Talk as well. Later Talk Talk is drastically different; popularly referred to as per-cursor Post-Rock. I prefer the later albums, immensely, but the albums that Talk Talk are popularly known for have that distinctive 80's production with synth pop leanings, but with a progressive mind set within their songwriting. Japan's another good suggestion -  sort of similar to Talk Talk.

^ I know a couple of Talk Talk songs, don't remember which year they come from, but I guess they're the most famous.

im still saying Thule (as they are in heavy prog, not particularly neo prog, but heavy prog, and some gothic and some darker textures, and strngeness)

I second Japan, if you are looking for 80s pop with prog tendencies. Try Tin Drum. Maybe also some XTC? Skylarking has some proggy undertones imo.

I agree with XTC, David. The good music of the 80's comes from Punk rock.
Secondhand Daylight by Magazine or Japan's Tin Drum can be good examples too :

Honestly, I don't hear any flashy 80s pop elements in IQ's music Confused

IQ's most 80's sounding album is Nomzamo which I personally regard as one of their weakest but you might find it interesting

If you're looking for a combo of synth-pop and prog, the two bands that spring to mind are It Bites and Twelfth Night.  For It Bites, the only album I have of theirs is their most recent, Map of the Past, but it is a great blend of those two styles.  For Twelfth Night, check out either Fact and Fiction or Art and Illusion, both are great works in the field.

You should try the 2nd album from Pallas "the Wedge" it has an elaborated sound....but it's still synthpop

Poor recording quality, but a good representation of their synth-pop stylings.

And another.

You should hear Saga...even if they never liked to me. There are even nice cheesy synth solos...
