The late glidding Hillfish song followed by that Dragon thing.

Great list, a lot of which I am unfortunately unfamiliar with; soon to change though. Cool
Kayo Dot's The Antique is a brilliant piece of music from a brilliant album - my vote goes there. The Mother Sky is a psychedelic goodie, probably my second choice.

Very conflicted here! I voted without hesitation for `Present - Le Poison Qui Rend Fou Part 1' - One of my favourite pieces off one of my all-time favourite albums. That album is one of the most addictive, sinister and chilliest albums I've ever encountered, and it's one of the albums I'm most proud of in my collection. However...

Vangelis `The Dragon' is ALSO very near the top of my favourite LP's too. My good friend and I have been obsessed in this album in years, love the dramatic title track and the ethnic elements throughout the whole album. Like nothing else he ever recorded - with a KILLER cover sleeve too!
Cool
Vangelis recorded some interesting stuff in that 1970-1973 period. Hypothesis (free-form jazz?) , Earth (world music??) , Apocalypse Des Animaux ( New Age / Ambient) plus one of my favourite albums '666' with Aphrodites Child. This period of Vangelis unfortunately tends to be a bit overlooked with the much more commercially successfull albums that followed later (although I like those as well)

Oh, as much as I love `The Dragon' (I still listen to it all the time), I thought `Hyphothesis' was awful lol! I remember there was a `two on one' CD release of that and the Dragon, and the sheer concept of those two albums side by side was unthinkable to me!

But `Apocalypse Des Animaux' is a stunner. So low-key and sad in places, haunting! One of his best. For some strange reason, parts of that reminded me a lot of that French `Air' band, although I'm sure it's purely coincidental. I have no idea if they ever heard that Vangelis album.

Hypothesis and The Dragon I believe were both recorded at the same recording sessions so tend to get grouped together. Conceptually they are massively different for sure but Vangelis seemingly was happy to experiment with different ideas at that time. I agree with you on Apocalypse Des Animaux about how good it is. Never heard the French band you refer to but might have to check them out!

^Amazingly creative period for Vangelis. There was seemingly no limit to what he could do and he did it all so convincingly. Add the stunning Sex Power OST (check out the clip) from 1969, and it gets even more impressive.

Lots of awesome, awesome choices.

It would normally be Kayo Dot, or maybe National Health, but I didn't like seeing Etat D'Urgence without any votes

Most considerate of you. Unfortunatley Its nowhere to be found online. Here's the rest of what I could find:

I would have voted for Tenemos Roads, but... Köhntarkösz part I was there. Köhntarkösz, especially part I, is my third favourite prog epic, after Supper's Ready and Echoes.

Glad to see Supersister on this list, but another Dutch Gem (The Mountain Queen - Alquin 14:46) is overlooked here. Never mind, you can't have them all...

Where is Dream Theater's "The Ministry of Lost Souls"? It clocks in at 14:57.

First take another look at the bands actually included and then ask yourself: Does this look like the poll of someone who a) likes or b) dislikes DT?

I could have voted for Vangelis, Art Zoyd, Kayo Dot, Hillage...but Kohntarkosz has been my first MAGMA album and even if Etat D'urgence is probably the best Art Zoyd's track my vote goes to Vander & co.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Just noticed the Jan Garbarek thing has Terje Rypdal on it, which I love.  Unfortunately I couldn't play that YouTube clip in my country :(

This is unfair prejudice! Barney Stinson: "I demand satisfaction!" Ho-a-a-a-a-AH! Angry [pacing back and forth]

Oh, that's too bad. To my ears this might as well have been a Rypdal-track with Garbarek in the lineup as the other way around. Mood&soundwise Sart's titletrack would fit perfectly on Rypdals self-titled 71-album.

Your fellow americans probably get this joke (and knows who Barney Stinson is) but I don't.

This parallels my view a great deal.  Handshake  That Vangelis recorded two so disparate albums in the same session says a great deal for his flexibility and musicianship.  I have the two separately on vinyl, and the idea of them both together on one CD is simply bizarre.  Apocalypse Des Animaux is in my top ten of his albums.

I like all of them, but I went with Vortex's Deliceuse Creature.  I really love that (and it had no votes).
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.
