Clutching at Straws. Although Talk Talk Spirit Of Eden is one I really need to check out sometime. The others I'm either not much a fan of or have no interest in. Slim pickings here.

Spirit Of Eden, easily. The fact alone that an album from the late 80s can sound so refreshing and timeless is quite a feat.
However, I admit it's a period I'm not generally fond of, but as always greater things might lurk in the obscurity... Any recommendations for late 80s albums not marred by the usual suspects - i. e. plastic overproduction, gated drums and cheap synthesizers - of the era ? Thanks ! ![]() (FYI, I only know of great RIO around that time, Art Zoyd, Univers Zero, Thinking Plague, Lars Hollmer, News From Babel, and obviously Offering... The Dukes Of Stratosphear is incredible, but hey, it was made to sound like a 60s time capsule) ~ Edited by God Was A Mellotron - March 14 2015 at 09:17 |

Yes, long live the Paul Menel era. Are You Sitting Comfortably is a great album. For me IQ is the clear winner.

Nothing here really comes close to "So". Every track on that album is excellent, apart from "Excellent Birds" ironically...
