Well since I saw them on the tour in Sept, I appreciate Bridges/Sky a lot more now, I did not get Breaking All Illusions.....and I did not like Outcry live, its a boring song......It just drones on and on.

I actually really like going for the one, but tormato is a disappointment.  And then there were three was in my opinion genesis's last good album. Every genesis album after attwt is an utter disappointment. even duke

Noctourniquet is brilliant. Though i do miss Omar's masterful guitar playing, but it's fine. The compositions, thought not entirely made by him, are still great. Plus the focus on in-the-pocket drums and keys are a major success.

I really want to like this since i'm gonna see them live in a month!! Big smile

This Strange Engine is one of my desert island discs which I love from start to finish and I've never been able to understand the negative response to this album by a lot of people. Radation on the other hand contains about 15 minutes of worthwhile music and the remainder is just filler.

Must be about 10 years since I listened to The Strange Engine put perhaps I will dig it and give it another go.

Talking of bands I really love (which to me means my top 5 or so bands), and there are few albums.

VDGG  - A Grounding In Numbers
Soft Machine - Land Of Cockayne
Magma - Merci

And even of those...Merci has some good moments. Also, I didn't expect Merci or LOC to be good but with AGIN I did with all the positive reviews.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Clutching at Straws - Marillion. Not terrible by any stretch, but leagues below all the albums that preceded it, imo.

Big Generator - Yes. Same as above. I generally don't have a problem with Rabin era Yes, but BG is not a patch on 90125.

Born Again - Black Sabbath. After the glorious two albums which Dio fronted, BA sounds slapdash and comical in comparison.

Anything by Rush, post Counterparts - Geddys voice got progressively better over the years, but I think their songwriting has been uninspired. A few little gems in there, but I've not heard anything since 1993 that confirms for me why this band is one of my favourites.

Zones - Hawkwind. Purchased at a time when I thought the Hawks could do no wrong. I had only heard their 'consistent' albums. I was very disappointed by the ad hoc, mish mash of badly performed, badly produced half baked ideas, that was Zones.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Totally disagree with you on this one.  A Dramatic Turn Of Events is the first album in YEARS that Dream Theater has sounded like Dream Theater.  For years they've been experimenting, and while that has resulted in some great stuff here and there, they haven't had an album that was strong all the way through in years.  Now they've finally gone back to their roots and made an album that is in the same leagues as Images and Words.

Bullsh*t.

Yeah? Well, what's your favorite band? 'Cuz their albums SUCK...
Well Dream Theater is one of them which is why I was massively disappointed.Cry

Hmmm... not so sure Snow Dog... lemmie think, what could be Snow Dog's favourite band? I bet it's an Anthem type band and I'll think of it as Best I Can and look Beneath, Between and Behind or By Tor,  and Snow Dog, perhaps even I'll Fly By Night to Make Memories of Rivendell In The End...
What?

OP: The Division Bell is among Floyd's best albums. A great final statement from the band.

Dodgiest PF album? That would be Momentary Lapse Of Reason, case closed.

If really pushed I would claim my favourite band to be ELP.  However I have many other favourites. So my favourite band  is..YesGenesisELPRushDReamTheater.

Just curious, what expectations did you have? Was it a massive dissapointment compared to his previous one (Tunnel's Mouth) ??

There was no change in direction from his previous one . But it was better in every way, better sound, better songs and the album was longer (the previous was far too short).

I agree about Harbour of Tears. Bad album, by far their weakest. "Under the Moon" is very good though.

But I like Stationary Traveller.

The buildup to the album was too excessive, it was a big let down for me........Soooo, you should also understand that I felt the same about Tunnel. I wanted that Steve Hackett magic back but it failed for me.
And also I give no brownie points for long albums.......It just means it drags on that much longer.

It has a few moments, but for me I find myself not paying attention after awhile.

Radiohead - King of Limbs.  Not a bad album at all, but I guess the band are on an entirely different trip from what they probably were when I got into them.  It might take me a while to relate to their new wavelength but all the creepiness of an Everything in its right place seems to have vanished without a trace.  There are just lovely textures now, the music doesn't have that hypnotic, haunting quality, not to me.

Pain of Salvation - Road Salt One.  I thought Scarsick was a mis-step.   RSO made me wonder if I had got that wrong.

Also, Black Clouds and Silver Linings, but I didn't really care much for a new DT album anyway by then.

On a 'prog-related' note, I had zero expectations from Death Magnetic and Final Frontier but in any case, they were exceedingly dull affairs.

Rush: "Hold your Fire" ... how could the world's greatest power trio release such a poppy record? I still cringe whenever anyone uses the synth choir sound. Oh well, at least the lyrics were good!

I actually rate Hold Your Fire rather highly.
