Let's put it this way: you're too far from my home, or else we could arrange some interesting "cultural exchange"
Semm che, semm che settà giò in del bar / a cercà l'universo nel bucèer del Cynar
cosmonauti al tavolino cun la sigareta in bùca / che vemm a cambià el mund apena finissum la sambuca

I buy 3 - 15 cd's every month, it's a question of lust and time.

My cd collections is about 1000 cd's and I have about 300 prog cd's, the rest is mostly metal.

I don't have any vinyl and never had a lp player (that would mean, I must buy all my cd's as a lp, which would be far too difficult and expensive).

To the author: Great Collection! A big part of your's I own too on cd. Maybe I am the no. 1 rival of your award?

Having a cd-r copy of an album does not mean that you own it!! Anyone who says that they own an album, but in fact only have a cd-r copy, are in my opinion lying!! He/She may have heard the album but does not own it!! It is impossible for me to see this any other way.

Having a huge prog collection, even if it has 500, 1000 or 1500 prog albums, does not impress me even one bit, if the albums are mostly cd-r copies or the so-called computer music as I like to call it.

Like I said, this is not addressed to anyone of you because I do not know who lists cd-r copies and who does not. I just have a strong hunch that some people are actually listing cd-r copies. If you want to list your collection, list the originals, those are the ones you own!

Geezer,

I don't agree with you, I am collecting now for over 30 years and I have a quite big collection (not 24.000s so, I should move out of my flat...)and put a lot of money in it.  It is only 2 years no that I have a  CD burner and I burn a lot. Paris has a very good Music library system with an internet link. So I trace down the records I'am looking for and copy them. These are mainly records which are out of print or hard to find ( I have all regular Zappa records and I bought them either on vynil or Cd, but I couldn't find the official boots until I found a couple of them in the library system) but if I see an interesting new record I copy it too. I bought and buy a lot of records and I don't think,I do any harm to the financial situation of any artist. A part from the 'ownership' issue the moment you buy the tool and the medium to make copies you own the right to make private copies anyway.

Cheers

There is nothing about legal or moral issues of burning CDs in my original post. I intentionally left my opinions of these issues outside, but maybe they can be read through the lines.

What I said was that a cd-r does not equal to owning an album! There is absolutely nothing to brag about a collection that consists of computer music.

I started buying LPs in the 70s....kept alot of them ...they are still in my room at my mothers house in London (where i am from, moved to LA in 1989) but I could not imagine counting my CDs and CASSETTEs which must go way into the thousands. Never thought of numbers really, just think of what I would like to hear next!!

Out of 210 CDs, 85 are prog... BUT I have about 35 in the Fusion category (Jean Luc Ponty, Pat Metheny, Al Dimeola). Does anyone else list their fusion albums separately from Prog ?

BTW - really nice collection.... you should have your own Prog ShoutCast server !!!

If it's worth playing, it's worth playing loud!

First post here, love the community.

I must admit, that when it comes to my age(16), you veteran prog maniacs could get me beat in experience.

But, with over 300 rare hardrock, psych, prog, and krautrock albums from 1967-1979, i'd have to say I have some of you beat. My collection is worth in the 1,000's, I believe.

I prize my collection alot. I mean, yeah, I have my share of Zeps and Deep Purple, but having the rare sessions that turned Opossum into Morpheus, is a sight for sore eyes.

I can certainly see why!
