ACR: I dunno, the review seemed to come from the POV of an emotionally conservative square. I mean the comment about your kids listening to it and everything, it just seemed like you have pre concieved notions about what music is allowed to do and are afraid of the dark or something. I'm not telling you Coyote's a great album, I haven't even heard it, but just reading your review you came off as something of a fuddy duddy. It's like Toby succeeded exactly in what he was trying to do, evoke the pain of losing a friend (and lover I've heard) to cancer and you were like "Well you're not allowed to do that, only sunshine and bunny rabbits please."
ACR you're a nice guy and this isn't meant as an attack, just saying what i think the problem with the review was. |
I thought pretty much the exact same things when reading his review

Finally, after a couple of hard and frustrating attempts to break the Toby Driver code, I'm finally digging one of his albums: Blue Lambency Downward is totally speaking to me. Nice!
I'll need to revisit Coyote soon!

Definitely revisit it. It's starting to grow on me.

My vinyl just came in the mail.
I'm a little ticked because the edges got a little crinkled in shipping, but besides that it's really stunning. Not as great looking as the motW Part The Second, but I'll still take it.
I noticed that Toby shipped this using his return address. Seems so strange that an artist could do this without being super stalked. It's such a different dynamic from being a child when I listened to mostly mega-bands like The Beatles or Led Zeppelin.

I didn't want to say anything, but yeah I am too. I looked at his street on google maps street view.
I feel like such a creep for doing it, but I couldn't resist. Strange how music can make you so voyeuristic.

I didn't think of that, but now I feel compelled to do it. If you get Mia's address though, make sure to remember me. Anyone here going to the Tartar Lamb II launch party? I know Joel donated that much, but he (obviously) can't attend.

Unfortunately at the time I didn't have the money to donate that much. I wish it was still open, I'd drop $100 their way.
I don't have her address, but her and I were born on the same day if that helps you in any way.

I can't attend the Tartar Lamb II party, seeing as it is halfway across the country for me.
Still waiting on my PtS vinyl I ordered in October, though it's probably sitting in the mail room at my dorm right now.

That's nothing. My PtS vinyl (numbered as ANTI-001, I think it's the first copy) came warped pretty bad. No issues with playing though, sounded nice through gramps' 80's Technics turntable.
I left it at his house under other 50 albums and I'll come back in a month or so. Maybe it'll unwarp, dunno.

That sucks.
What kind of a scam is Toby running here with these faulty vinyls?

It's at least harmless in that it doesn't bother him or really invade his privacy at all.
What's it tied with?

They couldn't find any trace of it anywhere in the world.
It arrived five months later
