Cannot find  Dunaj . But will continue my search.
I found 4 albums by  Michael Manring (which I am getting) but not "Book of flame"...Couldn't find it.
I was able to snatch 5 Cardiac albums, none with stench of honey but I got the Nurses.

Wonderfully diverse shuffle! Can't wait to see Your January shuffle.

Well, there it is. (Amadeus)

Miles Davis - Freddie Freeloader (great album this, I find it hard to pinpoint and remember individual tracks from Kind of Blue because they all seem to flow so gently together)
DeVotchka - We're Leaving (a great song with Mexican trumpet touches that once again is best listened to as part of the whole album)
Jethro Tull - And the Mouse Police Never Sleeps (what a great way to start the album)
Panzerpappa - Etyde (Norwegian RIO, this song is more intricate than some others on that album but worth paying attention to)
Richard Desjardins - Nataq (I love Richard Desjardins, though most people here don't know him)
Jan Dukes de Grey - Dominique (very uplifting song, the Sorcerers album is among my discoveries of the year, very different from Mice and Rats in the loft yet as brilliant)
Pierre Lapointe - L'enfant de ma mère (not the best song from what is not his best album)
Amarok - Tierra Austral (listened to Mujer Luna for the 3rd and 4th time a couple days ago and while some parts make me cringe this song struck me as beautiful)
Débile Menthol - Caduta Massi (awesome instrumental track, makes me want to move)
Fred Frith - Thea und Nat: Welcome home/Suspicion Theme (got the Eye to Ear album shipped to my home from ReRUSA even though I had never ordered it. Some of the tracks are good, I should listen to it some more)
Neil Young - Harvest (intro to a great folk album)
Zut un Feu Rouge - Saluda Jarnagshotell (seducing in a strange kind of way, I still remember listening to this song in the Brusells' airport at 4h30 in the morning and thinking how great it was)
Neil Young - There's a World (emotional, very intelligent use of the orchestra)
Guigou Chenevier - J'ai du bon Tabac (minimalist reprise of a children song well known among French speakers, I need to pay more attention to this album)
Gong - Inner Temple (magical moment from my favorite Gong album)
Aranis - Ouverture (intro to one original and mesmerizing album)
Die Knödel  - Waltz (waltzer) (listened to this song in the train 2 days ago, pretty good)
Fortrangt Hushaldsarbete - Himlen Säger (a Swedish RIO rarity that was part of the lost package that was shipped to my home by ReRUSA. A few scarce moments on the album grasp me but on the whole I cannot digest it)
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise (a little repetitive for my taste, probably listened to it too many times too Smile)
The Beatles - She Came in through the Bathroom Window (that's a twist on Abbey Road that I really love)
Van der Graaf Generator - Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus (fairly good bonus track on H to He, who am the only one. Probably the closest thing to jamming I heard from VdGG)
Pierre Lapointe - Untitled track (outro to La forêt des mal-aimés. 15 minutes of locust clipping wings noise recorded in the wild and then a short summer camp sing-along song. Very appropriate ending to this album)
Mägo de Oz - Costa da Morte (an uplifting song from Finisterra coming in when I start to think that the album is getting long)
Genesis - The Battle of Epping Forest (this song makes me feel schizophrenic)
Samla Mammas Manna  - Dundret Fröjder (intro to Maltid, not my favorite song off the album, a little long, but still good)

Excellent review. I see you are stingy with the numbers and that is a good thing! If everything were a 10 it'd be sure mediocrity!
Still collecting the Oldfield discography
I was unaware of a Richard Wright solo album.....Rushing to get that! All 3 on their way!
(still pissed at Waters for firing him on Final Cut.)

Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde - Fantastic song from Megadeth less thrash more melody than usual : 7/10..............worth getting hold of?

Thanks! Steve

The first Rick Wright album is a forgotten treasure that is well worth owning, it includes an appearance from King Crimson man Mel Collins and Thin Lizzy/Roger Waters guitarist Snowy White.

And yes that Megadeth song and album is pretty different i would definitely recommend it if you like things like early Iron Maiden and 80's Black Sabbath

Seems you had an incredible shuffle (Earth W & F? Lol, I have some myself).
Can you take of few moments and rate, rank or comment on each?
Impressed with the Kaipa! Heathaze one of my favs, excellent lyrics! What a great finish with "Tangent" (I'll ignore Barracuda lol.)

Its a shuffle of all my genres in my Zune....but it does focus on the most played genre. Living in Seattle you have to pay homage to Heart....I think they are one of the best 70's hard rock bands.

I will edit my original post with your request.

A word of warning with Manring - his first few albums have a big chunk of "New Age" sound to them.

Dunaj is a Czech band, no clue how easy/hard it will be to find them.

Stench of Honey is from "On Land and In the Sea".

I love that old Floyd, always brings me back. You had a very nicely diverse shuffle my friend!!!
Steve.

I have to get more frogg's

That song is from Fortunate Observer Of Time which is a masterpiece IMO. FC's three latest albums all are.

I admire what you're doing here Steve. Thumbs Up

appreciate you going back and reviewing! And your sentiments!
It is a way for us all to start to grasp the enormity of great music out there that we may be totally unaware of!
Going to start a sub part to this in January. Challengability and Diversity. Basicaly, "could you replay anybody's entire shuffle?" I could come close with yours. 21 of 'em.
IMO your best track by far was "The Tangent" of course you had "Shine" too!
Garden of Dreams is Flower/Power right? I found that album a solid 4.
Some albums simply shouldn't be shuffled or taken out of context. Flower being one of them. But everyone seems to be notating that!

Nice set, some I have, some I'd like to have and few I don't know.  Maybe we should have a shuffle, whack the stuff you don't have, shuffle yours and tack on to 25 tracks.
It would go something like this:
Miles Davis - Freddie Freeloader
Jethro Tull - And the Mouse Police Never Sleeps
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise
The Beatles - She Came in through the Bathroom Window
Genesis - The Battle of Epping Forest

First additions:
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band - Korn Ring Finger
Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit -Yield Not to Temptation
Marillion - Heart of Lothian/Wide Boy/Curtain Call
The Beatles - And Your Bird Can Sing
Joni Mitchell - Taming The Tiger

I'm stopping at 10.  25 takes too long.

Ah what the heck:
Jeff Beck - Shapes Of Things
Nine Inch Nails - Four Of Us Are Dying
The Flower Kings - Just This Once
Allan Holdsworth & Gordon Beck - Sundays
Roger Eno - After Dark

10 to go and no, no commentary.
Rick Wakeman - The Ten Commandments
Synergy - Ancestors
Monade - Entre Chien et Loup
Jean-Luc Ponty - N'Fan Mot
Anthony Phllips - Openers

Roxy Music - Grey Lagoons
Pierre Bensusan - La Femme Cambrée (The Arched Woman)
Jon Anderson - Midnight Dancing
Kansas - Not Man Big
Pere Ubu - Rhapsody in Pink

Cool idea—it got me up off my butt doing stuff I’ve been putting off doing.

I'll list the tracks, a bit of an explanation, maybe a rating. I doubt I’ll bother with year, maybe decade….This is stuff from my “Various” playlist in Foobar.  Not my complete catalogue by any means, just the odds and ends not in album folders.

 1. Shriekback  “Hand on my Heart”  -- first song on the playlist, have to start somewhere right?  Shriekback is a great 80s post-punk outfit, and one of my most favourite bands ever.  4/5

2. Gerry Rafferty  “Mattie’s Rag” – a very nice and smart pop tune from the 70s; Rafferty is an underrated guy  3.8/5

3. Art of Noise  “Close (to the Edit)” – I have a lot of 80s alternative, apparently…I did like this bunch. (Foobar seems to think they are “hip hop”. LOL!)  3.5/5

4. Guess Who “Albert Flasher”  -- Hey...I’m Canadian, eh?  3/5

5. Guess Who  “No Time”  -- see above, but a far better song.  J  3.5/5

6. David Newman  “Serenity—opening credits” -  um…see my avatar. I love this soundtrack.  4.5/5

7. Thomas Dvorak   “The Castle”  -- okay,  so I have a soundtrack from a PC game.  Machinarium.  It is actually a very cool soundtrack, and a great game.  So there.  3/5

8. Psychedelic Furs   “The Ghost in You”  -- one of my fave groups from the 80s; I loved Mirror Moves (the album)  4/5

9. Porcupine Tree  “The Colour of Air” – all I will say is that a year ago I really had no idea who these guys were.  A year later…well…sometimes chance encounters can change your perspective entirely.  This will not be the only PT that crops up in the 25, I’m sure.  3.8/5

10. The Smiths  “What Difference Does it Make” – ah Morrissey…does angst almost as well as Hammill.  Great song.  4.7/5

11. PT  “Every Home is Wired”  -- toldja.  3.7/5

12.  PT   “Four Chords that Made a Million”  -- the playback is on shuffle, I swear.  However, not so fond of this piece.  3/5

13. Shriekback  “Mercy Dash” – Shriekback put out two phenomenal albums back to back: Jamscience (1984) and Oil and Gold (1985).  This is from Jamscience.  5/5

14.  Carlos Santana  “Smooth” – lives up to its name, a very smooth pop tune, great stuff. 3.5/5

15. Focus  “Hocus Pocus” – er…. Novelty factor.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  3/5

16. Mudcrutch  “Scare Easy”—Mudcrutch is a band of Tom Petty’s, and this is probably THE best straight-up rock song I’ve heard in decades.  Absolutely perfect—a real pro at work.  6/5

17. David Bowie  “Station to Station” – ahh finally my music player has clued in.  Wink   The great opening track from one of Bowie’s best albums.  4.8/5

18. Shriekback  “Suck” – another from Jamscience, raucous, loud and dissonant.  4/5

19. David Bowie  “TVC15” – another from Station to Station, excellent example of Berlin-era Bowie.  4/5

20. PT  “Normal” – from the Nil Recurring EP.  Now *this* is the sort of stuff from PT that grabbed my attention a year ago.  I love this song, I love how Wilson has an apparently inexhaustible supply of melodic hooks, I love his trick of revisiting ideas, and his arrangement chops...!!!!!  5/5

21. Spandau Ballet  “Gold” – meh, doesn’t really stand up, probably won’t last much longer on the playlist.  2.8/5

22. Duran Duran  “A View to a Kill”  -- theme song for a Bond film.  I kinda like it.  3.5/5

23. Dire Straits  “Sultans of Swing”  -- it was grossly overplayed for years, but after a decade or so of not hearing it…it really stands up.  Knopfler is a seriously talented guy. 4.5/5

24. Stewart Copeland  “Gong Rock” – some time in the mid-80s, Copeland traveled through Africa making recordings and hooking up with musicians from that continent.  The result was an album called “The Rhythmatist”, a superb collection of African-inspired rock that probably should be better known than it is.  4/5

25. Figgy Duff  “Auntie Mary’s/Brother’s Jig Medley”  --  a 1980s folk-rock outfit from Newfoundland whose first two albums are almost as good as anything Steeleye Span put out.  4.2/5

(Heh...as I format this and the stuff continues to play, #26 is "The Cinema Show"... LOL )

No problem Steve......well since Garden of Dreams is a series of individual tracks, it gets included in the shuffle or broken up. Can't control that, I am diving more into my vinyl lately so because of that I may not be able to play your game in the future....my turntable will not shuffle LOL

This was pretty fun, must do it again one day.

1. Joanna Newsom - Sprout and the Bean 5/5 (her weakest album, but this is one of my favorite songs, absolutely beautiful)
2. Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Midnight Black Earth 4/5 (pretty spooky ambient-jazz, nice!)
3. At the Drive-In - Transatlantic Foe 3/5 (huh, haven't listened to this in ages, sounds ok)
4. First Aid Kit - Wills of the River  4/5 (sort of like a female version of Fleet Foxes, excellent album, good track)
5. Wigwam - Hard & Horny All-niter 4/5 (not necessarily Wigwam at their best, but this is one hilarious song)
6. Pekka Pohjola - Huono Sää / Se Tanssii 5/5 (Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, one of Pohjola's finest compositions)
7. The Cinematic Orchestra - All That You Can Give 3/5 (pretty good nu-jazz)
8. The Cure - Lullaby 5/5 (my favorite The Cure song!)
9. Echo Is Your Love - Song Against Hate and Rockets 4/5 (moody, female-fronted post-punk/indie-rock, good stuff)
10. The National - Friend of Mine 3/5 (great album, but I'm not all that enthusiastic about the song)
11. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Salty Bean Fumble x/5 (haven't listened to this much, I quite like their style though)
12. Asobi Seksu - Pink Cloud Tracing Paper 4/5 (me likey! shoegaze!)
13. Subtle - The Ends 3/5 (some kind of pop / hip-hop / experimental stuff, Subtle are always quite OK)
14. Värttinä - Neitonen 3/5 (Finnish folk music, not bad at all, but this album has better tracks)
15. Air - Ghost Song 3/5 (Air at their proggiest, sounds a lot like Pink Floyd)
16. Gidon Kremer - Revirado 5/5 (Gidon Kremer plays Piazzolla, this is such a beatiful composition)
17. Iron & Wine - Love and Some Verses 4/5 (singer-songwriter stuff, quite good)
18. Ulver - Høyfjeldsbilde 3/5 (Ulver goes neo-folk)
19. Do Make Say Think - Make 3/5 (this album was somewhat of a disappointment after You, You're A History in Rust. Nevertheless, they're still my favorite post-rock band.)
20. Flora Purim - Baia 3/5 (hmm, yeah, Flora Purim knows her stuff)
21. Trio Töykeät - Get a Life x/5 (Finnish piano jazz, quite energetic, but needs more listens)
22. Bon Iver - For Emma 4/5 (more singer-songwriter music, "For Emma" is a fine tune)
23. Fiori-Séguin - Chanson pour Marthe 5/5 (almost as good as Harmonium, Serge Fiori can do no wrong?)
24. The Mars Volta - Tourniquet Man 2/5 (humm, not a fan of the album)
25. Yann Tiersen - Childhood 4/5 (from the soundtrack to the film Goodbye, Lenin! -  simple, but beautiful)

Wow.  Penguin Cafe Orchestra.  I think I had their first album, way way back.  Don't really remember anything about it though.

Slartibartfast

I have the 1981, 1988 and the 2009 symphonic Richard Desjardins  on it's way to me!
Cannot find Aranis. You have a list there that is extremely diverse.
I'd only be able to replay 8 of your tracks!
Thanks for joining in!

Ok, I feel really lost.
I could probably only play 1 song Tull possibly 2 Miles Davis. All the rest is Greek to me.
Cannot find Francois Rabbath nor Benny Maupin. Cannot find Trembling Stain.
Just when I thought I was going to strike out I DID findthis...Placebo - Marc Moulin - (Discography)

Thanks!

This is great. Having so much fun chattin' with you all and finding more excellent music!
ergaster, 1st off I agree about Rafferty (Steelers Wheel).
I love Burton Cummings voice, I am particular to "Do You Miss Me Darlin'?"
Whatchya got against Hocus Pocus? It's not Hamburger but it is still very talented, especially in the vocals.
Not the biggest Petty fan but I have the 2008 Mudcrutch on it's way!
Nicely done with your reviews! Spandau Ballet has a couple nice songs.
Copeland. Nice. You held your integrity to the shuffle!
I'd only be able to replay 11 of your tracks!
Can't wait to see your Jan. shuffle!

I see that  Pekka Pohjola played with Oldfield! I have 5 Pekka albums on their way. Without Composers we'd be lost in a lost world as Moody's would say. I grabbed Classical Planet Mozart The Complet Violin Concertos Gidon Kremer. Will this do? Can't find the Seguin but anything as good as Harmonium....
Great shuffle! Thanks!
Well, there it is. (Amadeus)

Thanks Steven!  It was fun, and it reminded me of a couple of things:  I rarely listen to the mix randomly like that, and I occasionally think I should add more stuff to it (non-PT that is...obsession is a sad, sad thing...) that should be there and isn't yet. So thanks for the initiative!  Smile

And cull some stuff that I really don't care for.  I'll try to do that before the January round!

I was never a Petty fan either, still not really, but "Scare Easy" just blew my head off.  It transcends genres.  The lyrics are awesome too!  ("I'm just a loser at the top of my game..."  -- wow.)
