PLEASE GO TO JAN SHUFFLE! THANKS!

If you are a digital freak like me, you have your music in your portable hard drive or main drive etc Or have a 200+ cd changer Or throw your vinyl in the air and see how they land.

1. Shove it all into whatever media player you have and hit shuffle.

2. list the artist, song title, length, album, short description and your personal review of that song. Yr. too. I failed to enter that on mine. I will in future shuffles.

3. No cheating! Whatever comes up you must list, even if it is from Mary Poppins! Excuse list after.

Here’s my shuffle from 12/15-16/110

1. Shadow Gallery -Act II: Christmas Day-5:41 from Tyranny. What a lucky start (sad passing of lead singer) Wow! Piano and vocals then hellacious guitar! 4.2

2. Paul McCartney Movement II-School 2:10 from Liverpool Oratorio. POC . 1TH Bad male opera? 1.0

3. Sylvan - Today 3:09 X-Rayed album. 1TH. Nice vocal track

4. Streisand, Barbra & Barry Gibb - Guilty 4:28 Duets album. Yes I’m a prog head that very much appreciates the Bee Gees vocals & Nobody has the type of voice that babs had. 3.7

4. London Symphony Orch. doing Frank Zappa’s - Pedro’s Dowry 10:25 1TH precision insanity abound

5. APP - Beyond the Pleasure Principle 3:14 Freudiana. A very solid APP album, very lengthy. Full sound  sax,   instrumental. 3.7

6. Spock’s Beard - Snow’s Night Out 2:04 Snow. Lots going on here at a tremendous rate!! 4.6

7. Flower Kings - Humanizzimo - 23:10 Meet the Flower Kings IMO they are the closest thing to Genesis today. 1TH. 17m guitar. Oh wow. 4+ on 1st listen.

8. Tool - Viginti Trees 5:13 10,000 days. 1TH lost me at the DRUG store.

9. Neal Morse - Nowhere Fast- 3:45 -Neal Morse- LMAO great lyric story of guy chasing girl that hates him. 3.9

10. Genesis - Abacab - 8:54 -1986 Live in Los Angeles. Best part of this song is when Collins shuts up and goes to join Chester. 1st half - 2.7 2nd half - 4.1

11. Loreena McKennit - Prospero’s Speech 3:23 The Mask and the Mirror. If u haven’t heard her b4, buy anything you can. Beautiful vocals. 1TH 4.2

12. Ain Soph - Marine Menagerie 10:44 - Marine Menagerie. simply put 4.5

13. Strawbs - Thank You 2:16 Bursting at the Seems (Bonus) kids singing, not typical of Strawbs. UR

14. Vangelis - Polonaise 5:25 Chronicles. I can’t rate any good Jon Anderson vocal below a 4. Nor will I here. 4

15. Jethro Tull - Bouree 6:06. A Little Light Music (live). This speaks for itself. 4.7

16. Dan Fogelberg - Leader of the Band 4:17. The Innocent Age. A tribute song to his father. Listen to his song “Ghosts”. 4.4

17. Beatles - Chains 2:25. Please, Please Me. Not my cup of tea. 2.5

18. Genesis - Build Me A Mountain (rough mix) 3:14. Archives 1 d4. An Ant song which was released as “Where the Sour Turns to Sweet. 3.6

19. Carly Simon - Hold on Your Heart 3:29. This Kind of Love. I’ve always wanted to climb up her legs. 1TH 3.1

20. Marillion - Marbles IV 1:26 - Marbles disc 2. Not the best song from Marbles for sure. 2.9

21. Flower Kings - Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 9:20. Alive on Planet Earth. Not flawless/some improv 3 min of applause. 3.0

22. Unknown to me - Comfortably Numb 8:02. Wall live in Berlin. (must update this file) 3.4

23. Gabriel - In Your Eyes 5:29. So. I love the word facade. 4.1

24. Carpenters - It’s a Dirty Old Shame 3:49. Hits. This one though Karen’s vocals good as usual is TOO poppy! I’d have fed her. 2.2

25. Pendragon - Comatose (I. View from the shore) 7:41. Pure. I find Pendragon to be a Fish wannabe. Which is OK by me. They still have great instrumentals and vocals (sorta like Magenta in copying others music, again ok to a point). This is all by itself here. Very hvy for even PenD, many changes, subtle, ending with strings flows into next pt. 1TH UR

I must say that I got VERY lucky with my shuffle. At present I shuffled 31, 462 songs totaling 1,304 hrs. I know I still have some dupes in there, finding them is tedious. I can’t wait to see my fellow proggers lists!

EXCUSES. ETC.

1TH- 1st time hearing this song. rate or don’t rate.

POC- part of collection.

DS - Deleting soon.

UR - Un Ratable due to length, unfamiliar with song etc.

IDKWTF - self explanatory.

PA is very much “album” orientated. I’d like to be able to see others collections and rating of individual songs, maybe find a hidden gem or two. Besides, if you are like me, you have gathered an ample amount of music you still haven’t heard it all! Depending on interest, I will post a new shuffle 25 every 2 months. Merry Christmas Ya’ll!

I'd do this, but it just seems like a lot of work...

I actually just plopped everything my media player (10 min) then opened a blank spread sheet. made a list 1-25 then enjoyed the music and just entered whatever came up. It was very enjoyable to me, not knowing what could come up next. I hope you change your mind, it's just another way to listen to your stuff.  Also, I would like any critiques anyone has upon my reviews of those songs in my shuffle.

Agalloch. I see you like them, never heard before. What type of music? I'd argue your rating of Dogs. My absolute fav on Animals. Yes, I have newer stuff, All DT. Transatlantic, Morse, Porcupine Tree, Mostly Autumn, Magenta. Symphonic Prog to me is the best. I love the occassional strings that enhance it. PS I whole heartedly agree with you 5/5 of Octavarium.

I'm doing this in school during a lesson, so my chances of listening to the tracks aren't that good. My Ipod has tons of stuff I'm not very familiar with yet, which becomes painfully apparent it seems. And I'm not going to look up the years.

1. Amon Düül II - She Came Through the Chimney (Yeti) -  x/5 - I'm not very familiar with this track and I can't listen to it properly right now.
2. Faust - I've Got My Car and My TV (Faust So Far) - x/5 - Getting a bunch of Kraut a while back backfires, I haven't listened to this one at all yet.
3. Pink Floyd - Pigs on the Wing 1 (Animals) - 4/5 - An excellent intro to an excellent album.
4. R.E.M. - Orange Crush (Green) - 4/5 - One of my least favourite albums by them, but this is one of the better tracks.
5. Renaissance - Carpet of the Sun (Ashes Are Burning) - x/5 - Gah, I listened to this once a year ago, can't say a thing.
6. Soft Machine - Moon in June (Third) - x/5 - Heh. Now this one I've listened to several times, but only on the last listen a week or two ago I started to get a slight grip of it. Who knows, might be 5/5 in the future.
7. Harmonium - En Pleine Face (Si on avait etc) - 5/5 - A lovely track from a superb album. Brilliant.
8. King Crimson - The Letters (Ladies of the Road) - 4/5 - Live Crimso is always a treat, even if this is one of the lesser tracks from the album.
9. Genesis - Can-utility and the Coastliners (Foxtrot) - 3/5 - Not a big fan of this era of Genesis, but this is a good, solid track.
10. Neil Young - Mansion on the Hill (Ragged Glory) - 3/5 - One of the least good tracks on a great album.
11. Between the Buried and Me - Prequel to the Sequel (Colors) - x/5 - This album has gotten very little time from me so far, I always end up spinning The Great Misdirect when I feel like listening to them.
12. Led Zeppelin - Thank You (II) - x/5 - To be perfectly honest I can't remember this track at all. I usually listen to Zep only from III onward.
13. Testament - Musical Death (a Dirge) (The New Order) - 3/5 - A good instrumental from a good, though poorly produced album.
14. Nirvana - You Know You're Right (Nirvana) - 5/5 - I'll never stop cursing the fact that the last song they ever recorded was one of their very best. I'd have loved to see where they'd go next. Somewhere different I'm sure.
15. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (Epitaph vol 2) - 4/5 - As I said, live Crimso is always a treat. This time a better song but worse sound.
16. Pekka Pohjola - Flight of the Angel (Flight of the Angel) - 4/5 - An excellent track from one of his weakest albums.
17. Isis - Hall of the Dead (Wavering Radiant) - 5/5 - I just listened to this album on my way to school, damn brilliant.
18. Manogurgeil - Poliisien kesäkoti (Unirytmejä) - 5/5 - A fantastic light-hearted camelish track, clearly the best of the album.
19. Black Sabbath - Supertzar (Sabotage) - 4/5 - One of the lesser tracks on a rock solid classic album.
20. Anvil - Stop Me (Metal on Metal) - 2/5 - A decent sleaze rock ballad on a pioneering metal album, not very representative of their style. Not good, not that bad.
21. Rasmus - Julen Är Här Igen (Peep) - 4/5 - A solid track on a great debut album by this funk rock band that later turned to radio pop rock.
22. Jethro Tull - Baker Street Muse (Minstrel in the Gallery) - 4/5 - Needs more attention by me, but so far I've found this track very very enjoyable.
23. Bon Iver - The Wolves (Act I and II) (For Emma, Forever Ago) - 4/5 - Everything on this album has felt really really good, but I still need to listen more.
24. Triptykon - Goetia (Eparistera Daimones) - 4/5 - Can't say for sure as I haven't been able to listen to this one so much yet. Immensely dark stuff, makes me a bit uneasy actually, but in the right mood better than most.
25. Neil Young - The Old Laughing Lady (Neil Young) - 3/5 - A good track from a good solo debut.

Keiser, Wow, alot of stuff here I've never even heard OF. I recognize the Tangerine Dream, The Tom Waits and the Clash. I guess this was my purpose. I want to find all the really good stuff. I am going to start looking for this stuff that you and others take pride in such as "Burial" and "Nue"

Pekka, You also seem to have had a very fine shuffle, I disagree with your Can-Utility rating, unfortunately you can only  get the appreciation of a severe bass note in that song off of vinyl, the cd doesn't cut it. O've heard of Amon and Faust but haven't heard much. Love Harmonium as well. 2nd time I've seen Isis (besides in Caligula lol). P.S. Put on Monstrel in the Gallery, relax and enjoy.

Sleepwalker, creepy folky a 5/5? Can't wait to find it! Ya know, Lady Fantasy floored me at first listen, I keep taking away points everytime I hear the "fade out" at the end. Though I do like the song in whole.  We both came up with Mediocre Comf Numb! Lol. Will also try out your Stooges! Thanks for the run down!

This is my 25 random tracks, with a small review :

1 (4) Quicksilver Messenger Service – Mona :

This is California late 60’s in a nut. Nice !, grows old well.

2 (2) Yugen – Skellotron 003

I Like Yugen, but this is just a piece of sound inbetween tracks, nothing special

3 (5) Kate Bush – The Saxophone Song

Bush at her best, from the outstanding debut.

4 (1,5) Choking Victim – In Hell

American Hardcore/Punk/Ska, the particular track, a bit overstressed.

5 (4) Supertramp – School

Supertramp dosent hit me, as they did back then, its one of their better songs though.

6 (3) No-Man– Born Simple

From flowermix CD version. Its an ongoing heartbeat rythm, with ambient soundscrablings on top (Wilson/Fripp). Not a favorite No-man track, not a favorite ambient track either, but its ok.

7 (4,5) Pink Floyd – San Tropez

Lovely, soft and very relaxed, good old floyd, what can you say.

8 (5 ) Genesis – The Chamber of 32 Doors

Wow, hit one of my all time favorites, Genesis at the absolute top. From the amasing Lamb.

This deserves 6 stars, what a story too.

9 (2,5) Sparks – How Are You Getting Home?

Funny nostalgy, but it is, as with most Sparks, more fun than actualy great music.

10 (2,5) Electric Light Orchestra – Alright

Straight forward rock, old style. Dooes sound a bit outdated

11 (5) Frank Zappa – Inca Roads

A Zappa masterpiece, from The Lost Episodes (1996), beauti’ sounds very Gentle Gain’ish

12 (3,5) Slipknot – Gematria (The Killing Name)

Very powerfull track, i like the energy. A headbanger !

13 (4) The Cure – Three

Allways had a weak spot for those early Cure tracks. So simple – so dry.

14 (5) Pink Floyd – Fearless

Meddle again, says a lot about statistics, considering the huge amount of tracks to pick from.

Anyway this is a true masterpiece, and a nostalgi tripp too, Wonderfull. I can allmost smell the incense (or what it is).

15 (3,5) King Crimson – Improv: Cerberus (live in Central park)

From all the Improv’s, from this period, realeased on “Live Crimson” albums. This does not stand out as one of the best. But on the other hand, i allways get great pleasure from listning to them live.

Bruford as allways a beast.

16 (4,5) Pink Floyd – Remember a Day

I dont listen too A Saucerful of Secrets that often, when in the mood for early Floyd, i tend to end  up with Piper at the Gates. But this is a very strong early Floyd track. Did somebody say Mushroom.?

17 (3) Grand Funk Railroad – Feelin' Alright

Fine, feel good rock music, when in the mood. But not right now.

18 (4) Joan Armatrading – The Weakness In Me

What a vocal, great Armatrading song.

19 (3,5) Whitesnake – Still of the Night

Classic Heavy, Coverdale at his best. Just never up there with Zepplin, Purple or Sabbath.

Maby it needs some uglyness ?

20 (2) David Bowie – I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spaceship

Bowie trying to do something very modern, but not making it. Gives me next to nothing.

21 (?) Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina – Canticum Canticorum - Vox dilecti mei

Classical vocal music, i like it, but im just not qualified to rate this kind of music.

22 (3) David Byrne – Something Ain't Right

Byrne is allways bringing forward a smile on my lips, he sends so much humour and energi.

This is not one of his best songs, but its not bad either.

23 (?) Giuseppe Verdi – Otello, Act3: A terra! ...si... nel livido fango (Desdemona)

Opera, i still dont actualy get it, even though i sometimes like listning to a bit of it.

So again im not qualified to try rate.

24 (2) Bad Religion – Come Join Us

Bad religion plays a kind of soft melodic punk, i could live without.

25 (4) Pain of Salvation – Void Of Her

Pain is one of the bands i discovered quite resently, still growing on me.

I dont really like Verdi. If you want some killer opera thats more than enjoyable check out any of Puccini's as well as one by Pietro Mascagni called Cavalleria Rusticana. These are all pretty mainstream operas so they'll be easy to find but they're the first opera's that clicked with me. worth a shot.

This is funny, hope you dont mind that i did another one.

1 (5) Skunk Anansie – Weak

My absolute favorite album, from the mid 90’s new bands, sadly i think only the first album was that strong. Weak is a masterpiece from this style and time.

2 (3,5) Creed – Wrong Way

Creed another of the better new bands from this period, not the best track with them though.

3 (2,5 ) The Beatles – Blue Jay Way

Even a gaint can do wrong, this is an incredible weak Beatles song. Sorry.

4 (4,5) Depeche Mode – Personal Jesus

DM is so..so, but this particular track is a one hit wonder. I cant tell what it is, but i love it.

5 (5) David Bowie – Look Back in Anger

Bowies best period, Eno is a genius !. This is a killer track !

6 (4,5) Jim Morrison – Angels and Sailors

Picking out a single track from An American Prayer, is not the best idear, the album deserves that you take the time. Its more than music, its a testament in Rock.

7 (5) The Beatles – Cry Baby Cry

Chills running all around by body.

8 (5) Led Zeppelin – The Wanton Song

WOT this shuffle realy is getting off now ! – ZEP ZEP ZEP !!

I dont like the term underrated, but this album, WOW. They seem to just let the hair down and burst out energy in 1000’s of KW. That Drummer would be enough to start a religion.

9 (3) The Alan Parsons Project – Where's The Walrus

Parsons not as good as they have been, but still worth a listen.

10 (4) Johann Sebastian Bach – Violin Concerto E-dur

Bach is wonderful, a great track.

11 (4) Luigi Boccherini – Quintet for guitar & strings No. 9 in C major ('La Ritirada Di Madrid'

This italian composer include guitar in many of his works, very strong if you like accustic guitar.

Great interaction between the violins/guitar.Anyone into a wide spectrum of prog. should pick this up.

12 (2) Shania Twain – That Don't Impress Me Much

Just a POP song.

13 (3,5) Bob Dylan – Tomorrow Is A Long Time

Dylan is Dylan, allways good if in the mood for that kind of music.

14 (2,5) The Platters – I'm Sorry

Those old POP songs, with a twist of Jazz, they are bringing out a very unik mood.

But nothing specialy great about this one.

15 (4,5) David Sylvian – Wanderlust

I know some think he is a bit cheesy, but i think he is very powerfull vocaly, this is again music you need to be in the mood for, and Saturday morning with a hangover is perfect.

16 (3) Jethro Tull – Down at the End of Your Road

I love Tull, but this is one of the weaker tracks.

17 (3,5) The Sound of Animals Fighting – Un'Aria Elettronica (Technology)

Very experimental, interesting and demanding music. Sometimes just a bit too much so.

Worth a try though, for anyone interested in experimental music, who dosent know them.

18 (1) Adam and the Ants – Ant Rap

Adam Ant, dont even know why i got this music, must have been a lack somewhere in my past. Most of it is terrible, this is.

19 (3) Porcupine Tree – Delightful Suicide

A nice track from early PT, dosent work that well picked out like this. But the album is super.

20 (2) At the Drive-In – Star Slight

A very weak track, from otherwise good punk band.

21 (4,5) Creed – Stand Here With Me

Creed’s best album, and a good track from it. Powerrock is its supposed to be. Kicking Azz.

22 (3) Frank Zappa – Flambay (vocals)

More fun than actualy great, Zappa with an unexpected female vocal. Added later for the reissue.

I prefer the intrumental version.

23 (3) Guru – Trust Me

Acid Jazz, and pretty good too. But it is more POP than Jazz.

24 (5) Peter Gabriel – Humdrum

Im melting.

25 (5) The Mars Volta – Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore

13+ min, epic, from what i see at the greatest addition to my music collection in the last 30 years.

The beast called The Mars Volta. They drag from allmost any aspect of Prog, and great rock bands like Zepplin & Purple, at the same time making it very much their own.

This is IMHO a masterpiece in any respect.

1. The Mars Volta - Teflon (Octahedron - 2009)
Pretty good song off of a pretty good album, I've always thought this album had a really unique sound.

2. Uz Jsme Doma - Fascination (Caves - 2010)
Love it! High energy avant stuff, really punk like energy and the trumpet gives this band a pretty great energy.

3. Van Der Graaf Generator - Mirror Image (Vital - 2005 version)
Truthfully, I like Vital more for the live versions of songs I already know more than the live tracks I'd never heard before. Was never too huge on this song although I don't hate it either.

4. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Serenade No. 10 In B-Flat Major  (old)
< ="utf-8">
I like classical music but don't have much. I found a 99 track Mozart compilations on iTunes, that's where this one is from. I've never listened to the thing all the way through, but I've listened to this one a couple of times. It's pretty.

5. Genesis - Ripples (A Trick of the Tail - 1976)
One of my favorite tracks off this album, which I didn't really like as much as most.

6. miRthkon - Camelopardalis (Vehicle, 2009)
What do you do when a lot of your tracks are crazy instrumental pieces? Give them names with hidden meanings! This track is pretty great, but then again, if you read my review of this album you'd realise I think that about the whole album.

7. Marillion - Lords of the Backstage (Misplaced Childhood, 1985)
Like the rest of this album, much weaker on its own than as part of the whole.

8. Midnight Oil - Who Can Stand In The Way (Red Sails in the Sunset, 1984)
Off one of my two favorite albums by these guys. Midnight Oil kick ass and in this track, they are as blunt and angry as ever, complaining about the love of money in our current culture.

9. Moon Safari - A Sun of your Own (Doorway to Summer, 2005)
This is a lovely track that takes some time to sink in.

10. Pineapple Thief - Nothing at Best (Someone Here is Missing, 2010)
Catchy pop-prog with good layering. These guys are often compared to Porcupine Tree, but I don't really see it - maybe I've just listened to the wrong Porcupine Tree?

11. Pink Floyd - Sisyphus, Pt. 1 (Ummagumma - 1969)
Probably Pink Floyds most experimental album, but far from their most accomplished. Still, I like bits and pieces from it, and this is one of those pieces.

12. Persephone's Dream - Maenads, Melody, and Meter (Pan: An Urban Pastoral, 2010)
Really great track, much more symphonic than heavy. The female vocals are kind of in an odd rhythm, and I love the line, "Don't bring the world into balance, bring your balance back to the world". This song is the part of a sequence of tracks, so it's not as strong on its own as it is on the album.

13. Secret Green - Camlann (To Wake the King, 2009)
One of the more instrumental tracks on the album, I like it.

14. Genesis - Counting out Town (The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, 1974)
Hilarious lyrics, fun song, poppier than a lot of other stuff they'd done at this time but I can't help but love this track.

15. Swimfail - The End of Island Nine (Self Centered Tales From the Project That Failed, 2007)
Really great track off the first Swimfail album where the band changed from being "That music my friend makes" to something amazing.

16. My Hippy Angel - Bob Geldof (The Happy Club, 1992)
I got this guys discography because I love The Boomtown Rats. This song was okay, but not one of my favorites from him. He's done better.

17. Pendragon - And We'll Go Hunting Deer (The World, 1991)
I like these guys but I don't love 'em. This track is a nice closer.

18. Yes - Turn of the Century (Keys to Ascension 2, 1997)
I love the Keys to Ascension live tracks but this one is pretty faithful to the original. Still, one of the saddest songs I've ever heard - Jon's voice and Steve's guitar in this one work together amazingly.

19. Yes - Going for the One (1977-9-23 Los Angeles Forum, 1977)
From a bootleg, not very good sound quality. But I love this track, even though others don't seem to.

20. Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Nutrocker (Night Castle, 2009)
This album was a disappointment to me. Beethoven's Last Night is the only album they've released that works best as a cohesive whole; the other 4 all try to but mostly just have great songs that you can pull out and enjoy on their own. This is one such song.

21. Rational Diet - Sleep Is Teasing a Man (On Phenomena and Existence, 2010)
Really great way to open this album, which I really love. Dark chamber stuff. Best song on the album is near the end though, not this one.

22. The Flower Kings - World Without a Heart (The Rainmaker, 2001)
Don't really remember this song, I just remember really disliking this album other than a couple of tracks.

23. Swimfail - Withdrawal Pt. 3 (Never One to Walk Away) (Happily Destroyed EP, 2008)
In 2008, Swimfail released 2 EPs and a full length album. That was his best year, and each was amazing. The Withdrawal series of tracks at the end of this instrumental EP are all great.

24. Fellowship - Orome: Lord of the Hunt (In Elven Lands, 2005)
I bought this album because Jon Anderson is in it. It's nice to listen to every once in a while and the ancient methods are really interesting.

25. Jon and Vangelis - The Friends of Mr. Cairo (The Friends of Mr. Cario, 1981)
Based on this album, I'm not really a fan of Jon and Vangelis. This is the best track but that doesn't make it good. XD

Gazzard, 1st I wish you had given a number to how much you like various items. I will go by your writings. Going to try

and find some miRthkon and Swimfail. ever heard of either.

I am glad that you appreciate Mozart. If you get a chance to see “Amadeus”, it is a great flick with wonderful music.

Yes, listening to Misplaced shuffled is like listening to The Wall shuffled. Doesn’t work lol.

Umma Gumma’s Careful w/axe is best version of that song, the studio of it works if you are in the mood.

Secret Green?

Ditto on Turn of the Century! Love Keys. Also I am in your corner on Going for the One.

IMO the biggest problem with “Cairo” is the crap track that follows title track.

JS19,

I have acquired "The Mars Volta"-"Frances the Mute" (2005) I listened to start of album then assandra Gemini (part b). I cannot argue your rating. Very much worth future listens. Icannot seem to locate any Planet X or Delusion Squared. Working on Frogg Cafe.

Thanks!

Keiser willhelm,

I am currently acquiring Charles Mingus, I see he has been around awhile. Also the Guapo and Burial.

Koenjihyakkei I have found but elusive. I am having trouble with the "Nue" can you elaborate such as album etc?

I acquired "Animal Collective" "Turn into Something" sounds like some Cajuns playing in the swamp could have produced, very repetative. But we all have things that are special to us.

What type of music is Nick Drake?

Thanks!

1. Drown With Me [LIVE] - Porcupine Tree          3/5, definitely not as riveting as the studio version and it seems to lack the dreamy eeriness which made the other version so wonderful. (Note: this is the live version from the We Lost The Skyline live album)
2. King - Marillion                  4/5, good track although for some reason I've grown incredibly bored of it. Still has some wonderful guitar work.
3. Cure For Optimism - Porcupine Tree              5/5, Incredibly dark and dreery track with a stunning atmosphere.
4. Harvest - Opeth                    4.5/5, one of my favourite Opeth tracks and one of the first tracks from them which I liked.
5. Rain Machine - Spoonion               4/5, great little track, although works much better within the context of the album. Seems kinda out of place by itself.
6. The Gnome - Pink Floyd                 1/5, always seemed to me to be an attempt to be as quirky or weird as possible in an incredibly boring fashion.
7. Rome Is Burning - John Wesley           3.5/5, beautiful track although somewhat stereotypical sounding. Still wonderful guitar work.
8. Older Than Me - Marillion               4.5/5, wonderful, spacious, drifting little song. Love it.
9. For You - Jon Anderson                3/5, incredibly cheesy but by no means a bad song.
10. A Gentleman's Excuse Me (DEMO) - Fish              3.5/5, essentially a less polished version of the album track, which was wonderful.
11. For Sure - Amercian Football               4/5, one of my less loved tracks from AF, although still has some great trumpet playing.
12. The Fool - Neutral Milk Hotel                 1.5/5, always has been my least favourite track from ITAOTS.
13. Wedding Nails - Porcupine Tree          4/5, wonderful guitar work and the track works great live. Really nice mid section too.
14. I Can Hear Your Lungs Rattling - ARROWS         4/5, super depressing and poorly recorded track but still wonderful music from a wonderful band and the lyrics are fantastic.
15. Prodigal [LIVE] - Porcupine Tree               4/5, not quite as good as the studio version although still works well and was a nice bonus track in the special edition. (Note: from the Anesthetize live CD/DVD)
16. Demon Seed - Nine Inch Nails                 3/5, interesting track although somewhat boring.
17. No Gold - Cardiacs               4.5/5, my favourite track from the 2nd disc of Sing To God. The vocals are awesome and the track has a really unique overall atmosphere.
18. The Grudge - Tool               5/5, one of my favourite 2 or 3 Tool tracks with mind-numbing guitar work and a brilliant build up.
19. Music Now - Frightened Rabbit           4/5, great song with pretty good lyrics (Make your music, make music that some c**t might like)
20. Wallflower - Peter Gabriel                5/5, one of my favourite PG tracks with a lovely crescendo and great lyrics.
21. Home In Negative - Steven Wilson       4/5, great atmosphere and a wonderful little free track from SW. I absolutely love the lyrics during the chorus.
22. Conversation With Dr. Seussicide - I Hate Myself          4/5, great track title and wonderful lyrics. A little overlong, although still fantastic.
23. Regret - New Order                4/5, catchy as hell and really enjoyable overall.
24. Wavering Radiant - ISIS                 3.5/5, not that great overall (mostly background noise type of stuff) although works brilliantly within the atmosphere of the album.
25. Wherever There Is Light - no-man         5/5, stunning guitar work and brilliant vocals. Wonderful imagery too. Theo Travis really can break your heart with a flute.

Overall favourite - Wherever There Is Light.

Congrads on the guapo and burial and especially the mingus. Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is in the top 3 of my favorite albums. its staggering.

The best Neu IMO is their 1971 self titled. might be hard to find a physical copy but not hard to find a digital one if you just want to check em out. mediafire is the sh*t.

regarding animal collective: its indie/freak folky/electronic bliss. Check out their album Feels and if you dont like it.... i dont know, everyone's got preferences but id be inclined to think somethings wrong with your ears. or your brain. Wink

Nick Drake is folk. youtube pink moon (album)

If a live track comes up I'm just going to post it as if it had come up as the album track

1. Zut - Shabutie: track from the first version of the band that eventually became Coheed And Cambria.  Rough, raw, it's alright I guess.

2. For Absent Friends - Genesis - Nursery Cryme: I like this one, very pleasant.

3. Black Dog - Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV: who doesn't know or like this one?

4. Kite - U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind: ehhh... I have all of U2's stuff.  It's mostly ok.

5. One Of My Turns - Pink Floyd - The Wall: the 2nd side has always been the least appealing to me... but it's still all great stuff.

6. Prophet - Yes - Time And A Word: I like some of the early Yes songs, this one's alright if a little too long winded.

7. Liar - Queen - Queen: OH YEA!!!  Maybe one of my top favorite 10 songs ever!

8. No World For Tomorrow - Coheed And Cambria - No World For Tomorrow: kick ass track, there's some sick riffing going on in this one.

9. You Don't Fool Me - Queen - Made In Heaven: meh... I don't understand what they were thinking with some of the later songs they wrote.

10. Neverender - Coheed And Cambria - The Second Stage Turbine Blade: what could I say about the climax of one of my favorite concept albums?  Really great, hard-hitting song.

11. Lizard - King Crimson - Lizard: Ummm... the beginning with Jon Anderson is nice enough I guess?

12. 1921 - The Who - Tommy: don't really know enough about this album; just recently added it to my collection.

13. You Know You're Right - Nirvava: almost any Nirvana song is good to me in some way.

14. Buffalo Soldier - Bob Marley: great relaxation music, of course.

15. A Time And A Place - Emerson, Lake, And Palmer - Tarkus: one of their more mediocre tracks, unfortunately.

16. Sanitarium - Metallica: don't really have an opinion about this one.

17. Cry Baby Cry - The Beatles - The Beatles: as with most "White Album" tracks, never really stuck with me.

18. Themes - Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe: never understood what they were going for on this album.

19. Cubicles - My Chemical Romance: I like their last two, theatrical albums.  The early stuff... not so much.

20. Suteki Da Ne - Nobuo Uematsu - Final Fantasy X Soundtrack: Final Fantasy soundtracks are incredible.

21. Everything Evil - Coheed And Cambria - The Second Stage Turbine Blade: one of my absolute favorite songs ever.  Part of the reason I think SSTB is an overlooked masterpiece.

22. Salt Of The Earth - The Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet: haven't listened to it.

23. I Need You - The Beatles - Help!: same as above... I'm sure it's just fine though.

24. Victory Fanfare - Nobuo Uematsu - Final Fantasy X Soundtrack: see #20.

25. Doing All Right - Queen - Queen: fantastic track from Queen's debut.  I wish this period of the band's history had lasted a little longer.. they were truly very creative and talented.

The overall album (Schoolyard Ghosts) isn't as strong as I would've liked, although Wherever There Is Light and Truenorth are easily 2 of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Theo's work on Truenorth is absolutely amazing too.

1. Gardening at Night - R.E.M. (Eponymous) - I think this album is a great thing to have in your collection, though this is a song I didn't even recognize when it came up. The song "So Central Rain" is one of my favorites

2. Soft Voices - Big Wooden Radio - This is a local Iowa Americana band that is quite good, a favorite of my wife. Her uncle was a sound man at one of the local venues and for a time this was one of the major frequent bands there. This song happens to be one of their better ones.

3. Caught in a Dream - Tesla (Into the Now) - one of the better bands from the hair metal era. Another one I barely remembered I had (after burning my back catalog my iPod is over 10,000 songs so I'm getting more of these than I expected) This particular song is pretty average

4. Land of Sunshine - Faith No More (Angel Dust) - Amazing song from an amazing album from the vocal master Mike Patton. "Sing and rejoice. Sing and rejoice."

5. Wait - Beatles (Rubber Soul) - The best album by the best band of all time.

6. Don't Start Me Talking - Sonny Boy Williamson (The Best of Chess Blues, Vol 1) - This two volume set is an absolute must, and this song is just pure blues.

7. Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven - No comments needed

8. Just the Same - Gentle Giant (Live Playing the Game) - Great song, great album, one of the best live classic prog albums.

9. Move - Miles Davis (Birth of the Cool) - The leadoff song of a monumentally classic album.

10. Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Part VI-IX) - Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here) - No comments needed around here

11. Touch Wood - Brand X (Unorthodox Behavior) - Great fusion album, some of Phil Collins' best drumming on record. This is a little mellow interlude song with obvious John McLaughlin references, and some tasty piano.

12. Goodbye City Life - Deadsoul Tribe (Lullaby for the Devil) - One of the best songs from a great album, one of my absolute favorites from Devon Graves / Buddy Lackey.

13. Forgotten Sons - Marillion (Script for a Jester's Tear) - Although I'm not huge on this album in general, this song is pretty good. The prog is a little more obvious.

14. One of these Days - Pink Floyd (Meddle) - No Comment needed

15. Little Lies - Fleetwood Mac (Greatest Hits) - Really a great band. Peter Green era is great, the pop stuff is really solid. I have a song with Tommy Bolin playing with them, which would have been amazing.

16. Crystal Ship - Doors (Best of the Doors) - For some reason, this is the song I think of when I think of the Doors. I have fond memories of my 1st year of college before I was old enough to get into the bars, playing pool and listening to this album. (The movie was that year.)

17. Tomorrow's Dream - Black Sabbath (We Sold Our Soul for Rock n' Roll) - In a very uneven career, this is a great song by the fathers of metal.

18. Angry Chair - Alice in Chains (Dirt) - This may be the best album of the grunge era, and the harmonies between Staley and Cantrell on this one are just perfect.

19. Detox - Strapping Young Lad (City) - One of the most intense pieces of metal ever recorded.

20. Life is a Carnival - The Band (Best of the Band) -  I should have more than just this collection, but hey. My band is currently playing two songs off this album. This song is solid.

21. O'er Hell and HIde - Baroness (Blue Record) - A very strong offering from a great modern prog sludge album.

22. Old Shoes - Tom Waits (Closing Time) - What a record!!! What a song!!!

23. Let it Roll - Devin Townsend (Synchestra) - Beautiful opener to a great album. Perhaps Devy's best acoustic song ever. (This is one of the few I let run all the way through for this)

24. Intention's Clear - Umphrey's McGee (Jimmy Stewart 2007) Great track from the jazz-proggy jam masters.

25. Closure - Opeth (Damnation) What a voice!!! What an album!!!

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Just the tracks man:
1. Santana\All That I Am\01 Hermes - Santana's recent collaboration spree has yielded some interesting tracks and some stuff I wasn't impressed with.  This is one of the better ones off of All That I Am.
2. Djam Karet\And Still Getting the Ladies 2002 Disc 2\03 The Window - 27 minute DK jam from a limited edition release.  Mine came with autographs.  Many better places to start exploring their discography though.
3. Anthony Phillips\Private Parts & Pieces 9- Dragonfly Dreams\10 Hills of Languedoc - Anthony has been extremely prolific post Genesis.  Nice mellow guitar piece.  He's done a lot of those solo.  Really impressed by his drive to create original music.  It's no Horizons though.
4. Kate Bush\The Red Shoes [US]\10 Big Stripey Lie - dark song about an abusive partner.
5. Percy Howard-Hayward-Frith-Laswell\Meridiem\06 Votive Rhythm - bought this album because it had Frith and Laswell on it.  Bit of a disappointment.  This is one of the tracks I like.  Most of them are a bit of ho hum.
6. Nine Inch Nails\With Teeth\08 Only - "I'm becoming less defined as days go by
Fading away
And well you might say
I'm losing focus
Kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself"
7. The Beatles\Past Masters, Vol. 2\07 Hey Jude - not one of my favorite Beatles tracks.  I expect there aren't many out there who don't know it all too well.
8. Adrian Belew\Op Zop Too Wah\13 In My Backyard - this one hits close to home as there is a stream in my backyard, my front one, too.  However I've never gone there to dream.
9. Enya\Watermark\04 Storms in Africa - pretty calm track for having "storms" in it's title, but then all of Enya's stuff is mellow.
10. Joni Mitchell\Mingus\04 A Chair in the Sky - Joni does jazz on this album.  You'll be happily detached from your cold hard cash.
11. Emerson, Lake & Palmer\Works Live\07 Introductory Fanfare - this one would happen to show up in the middle.  The fanfare is short and then it becomes Peter Gunnnnnn.
12. Jan Akkerman\Heartware [1998]\07 Firenze - a pleasant little instrumental piece.
13. John Scofield-Pat Metheny\I Can See Your House from Here\03 No Matter What - a piece that doesn't impress me much from an album that doesn't impress me much.
14. A Triggering Myth\Forgiving Eden\07 Forgiving Eden VII - never quite got a grip on this album as all the tracks are called Forgiving Eden.
15. Rick Wakeman\Return to the Centre of the Earth\21 Narration 11-The Volcano-Tongues Of Fire-The Blue Mountains - sadly disappointing album compared to the original journey.  Patrick Stewart does the narrations.
16. Steve Howe\Beginnings\05 Beginnings - nice classical style piece.
17. Stereolab\Sound-Dust\12 Les Bon Bons des Raisons - lyrics are in French so I don't have much of a clue what is being sung about, but it seems to be about a chocolate treat with raisins.
18. Umphrey's McGee\Anchor Drops\05 Miss Tinkle's Overture - prog out dudes!
19. Steve Hackett\Wild Orchids [Special Edition]\09 Man in the Long Black Coat - Steve covers Dylan.  Hackett isn't a strong vocalist, but I like what he did with this Dylan cover.
20. The Police\Zenyatta Mondatta\05 Voices Inside My Head - telling me I must stay home and clean my guns.
21. King Crimson\Starless and Bible Black\07 Starless and Bible Black - unremarkable KC improv piece.
22. Talking Heads\Remain in Light [DualDisc] Disc 1\11 Double Groove - not bad for an outake.  Further evidence that the Heads were on a roll when they were making this album.
23. Angelo Badalamenti\Twin Peaks- Fire Walk with Me\10 Moving Through Time - chilling.
24. Vangelis\The City\05 Good to See You - another fairly unremarkable track off of one of his lesser albums.
25. Mark Isham\Blue Sun\07 And Miles to Go...Before He Sleeps - Isham is a big fan of Miles.  Nice mellow tribute track.

Odd how most of this random stuff turned out to be mellow.

So I didn't have to type, I used Windows Media Player and copied from the file properties.  That was from my entire collection.  Interesting set.  I skipped through to get them listed.  Now I've backed back to 1. and will probably listen to the set tonight.

progkidjoel ,

Cure For Optimism - Porcupine Tree              5/5, Incredibly dark and dreery track with a stunning atmosphere. I know I have this, I must listen.

A Gentleman's Excuse Me is phenominal as well as Sugar Mice.

You suggest I acquire this one?  I Can Hear Your Lungs Rattling - ARROWS         4/5, super depressing and poorly recorded track but still wonderful music from a wonderful band and the lyrics are fantastic.
I may have this, I will see... The Grudge - Tool               5/5,

Is the group on this No-man?Or Travis? Wherever There Is Light - no-man         5/5, stunning guitar work and brilliant vocals. Wonderful imagery too. Theo Travis really can break your heart with a flute.

Thanks!, Steve

NO-MAN discography on it's way. Thanks again!

I will see if I can find Land of Sunshine - Faith No More (Angel Dust)
Beatles "Wait" what a fantastic song "I've been away now, Oh how I feel Alone"

You speak highlt of  Don't Start Me Talking - Sonny Boy Williamson (The Best of Chess Blues, Vol 1) - This two volume set is an absolute must, and this song is just pure blues.

Glad you appreciate the classical. If it weren't for classical I'm afraid there'd have been no prog.

I think you should listen to the power in Fish's voice on Script a couple more times.

I adore Opeth when the demon isn't screaming into the microphone. I'm sure I have it, will listen.

Thanks! Great post

I messed up, I got started on it, meant to keep it queued up in Media Player, but for the most part it's a decent set of tracks so I might just do it and add commentary to the post.  What the hell, going to go for it. Big smile

The group is no-man and Theo Travis is a guest on the album for some flute work.

You can here some of there stuff over here: http://www.myspace.com/arrowsmusic" rel="nofollow - http://www.myspace.com/arrowsmusic I especially recommend you check out Pour Me Into A Taxi, one of the most heartbreaking songs I've ever heard.

3 dog. I have their discography. No familiar with it all yet.

"Madrigal" Tormato one of my favs.

Got lucky with the "Echoes" album cover I see. All in all looks like a good listen.

Will I Arrive - Katatonia (3.5/5, good metal if a little prozaic)
Space Transmission - Porcupine Tree (2/5, pointless spacey garb)

1. Burning Sky - Porcupine Tree         5/5      My favourite PT instrumental. Some cool, catchy riffs and a great ambient middle section.
2. Just - Radiohead              4/5          A nice, catchy, sort of grungey song.
3. Close to the Edge - Yes         5/5          Overrated, but still a masterpiece IMO
4. Angherr Shisspa - Koenjihyakkei    5/5       Insane Japanese Zeuhl ftw.
5. Prayer - Bondage Fruit          3/5      More Japanese Zeuhl. A nice catchy, jazzy song.
6. The Count Of Tuscany - Dream Theater     5/5      Despite having some less-than-good lyrics, it has some pretty sweet riffs and an awesome slide guitar solo.
7. Da Zeuhl Wortz Mekanik - Magma         5/5        Wow I'm getting a lot of masterpiece songs. Anyways, I don't really know what to say other than this kicks ass.
8. Set The World On Fire - Symphony X       3/5     Headbanger
9. The Drapery Falls - Opeth     4/5        Pretty awesome song. I like the bass in the intro riff.
10. Angleworm Angel - Cardiacs     5/5     Gotta love the prog-punk style of Cardiacs. Such an awesome, energetic short son.
11. A Pitcher of Summer - Kayo Dot     4/5       A cool song from the only Kayo Dot album I like.
12. High Hopes - Pink Floyd         5/5    The last song on PF's last album, and what a great song to go out on.
13. Lady Fantasy - Camel         5/5       Definitely my favourite Camel song.
14. Childlike Faith in Childhoods End - Van der Graaf Generator      5/5     This song is just too awesome. I love the outro a lot.
15. Spray - Can      5/5      That intro improv section is just too sweet.
16. Not Now John - Pink Floyd       1/5      I love The Final Cut, but I can't stand this song.
17. Heart of Lothian - Marillion      4/5       Pretty great ballad.
18. Iter Impius - Pain of Salvation        5/5       An absolutely amazing prog metal ballad with an immensely powerful chorus, solo, and outro. My favourite Pain of Salvation song.
19. Dixie - Harmonium       4/5       A fun little prog-pop song.
20. You Never Blow Yr Trip Forever - Gong        4/5     An awesome, epic closer to Radio Gnome Invisible 3.
21. Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper - Dream Theater          5/5           Contains one of the most awesome instrumental sections ever.
22. A Change of Seasons - Dream Theater          463782/5        My favourite song. Ever.
23. Birds of Fire - Mahavishnu Orchestra          5/5      A great, intense shredfest and one of my favourite jazz songs.
24. The Dead Flag Blues - Godspeed You! Black Emperor       4/5        I used to hate this song. Now I can't get enough of the first 6 minutes. Everything after that is just alright, but those first 6 minutes are just amazing.
25. On The Prowl - Transatlantic         4/5        Nice, catchy instrumental intro and some pretty cool lyrics from Neal Morse.

2. Fallin' Ditch - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band (What can I say...Rocket Morton takes off into the wind!)
3. Montana - Frank Zappa (Pretty good song, though I think it's not quite as good as a lot of people seem to think it is. )
4. Antenna Head - ZZ Top (I'm not very familiar with this one, though I have a ton of ZZ Top thanks to my parents' collection I don't listen to it very often)
5. The Tenth Chaffinch - Henry Cow (Good song from an amazing album)

11. Nono - Magma (Epic track from an awesome album.  The bass is great, as is everything else)
12. My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama - Frank Zappa (not my favorite track from Weasels... but not my least favorite either, and I like the whole album)
13. Hibou, Anemone and Bear - Soft Machine (one of the first times we really get to hear Hugh get fuzzy with Soft Machine, I like it!)

Excellent review. I see you are stingy with the numbers and that is a good thing! If everything were a 10 it'd be sure mediocrity!
Still collecting the Oldfield discography
I was unaware of a Richard Wright solo album.....Rushing to get that! All 3 on their way!
(still pissed at Waters for firing him on Final Cut.)

Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde - Fantastic song from Megadeth less thrash more melody than usual : 7/10..............worth getting hold of?

Thanks! Steve

Looks like you had an awesome shuffle.
I take exception. I think Close to the edge at 5/5 is the most UNDERATED! Lol

Many thanks to your  Angherr Shisspa ! From that search I am grabbing at great rate about 5 other K prog groups I don't have. As well as a 1977 Klaatu album I was unaware of.
I've seen so many Magma mentions drom folks. Discography on it's way to me.
When you mentioned you were getting alot of masterpiece songs.... Seems you had spoken too soon! Nice shuff. Thanks! Steve

I love that old Floyd, always brings me back. You had a very nicely diverse shuffle my friend!!!
Steve.

I was able to snatch 5 Cardiac albums, none with stench of honey but I got the Nurses.

Wonderfully diverse shuffle! Can't wait to see Your January shuffle.

Miles Davis - Freddie Freeloader (great album this, I find it hard to pinpoint and remember individual tracks from Kind of Blue because they all seem to flow so gently together)
DeVotchka - We're Leaving (a great song with Mexican trumpet touches that once again is best listened to as part of the whole album)
Jethro Tull - And the Mouse Police Never Sleeps (what a great way to start the album)
Panzerpappa - Etyde (Norwegian RIO, this song is more intricate than some others on that album but worth paying attention to)
Richard Desjardins - Nataq (I love Richard Desjardins, though most people here don't know him)
Jan Dukes de Grey - Dominique (very uplifting song, the Sorcerers album is among my discoveries of the year, very different from Mice and Rats in the loft yet as brilliant)
Pierre Lapointe - L'enfant de ma mère (not the best song from what is not his best album)
Amarok - Tierra Austral (listened to Mujer Luna for the 3rd and 4th time a couple days ago and while some parts make me cringe this song struck me as beautiful)
Débile Menthol - Caduta Massi (awesome instrumental track, makes me want to move)
Fred Frith - Thea und Nat: Welcome home/Suspicion Theme (got the Eye to Ear album shipped to my home from ReRUSA even though I had never ordered it. Some of the tracks are good, I should listen to it some more)
Neil Young - Harvest (intro to a great folk album)
Zut un Feu Rouge - Saluda Jarnagshotell (seducing in a strange kind of way, I still remember listening to this song in the Brusells' airport at 4h30 in the morning and thinking how great it was)
Neil Young - There's a World (emotional, very intelligent use of the orchestra)
Guigou Chenevier - J'ai du bon Tabac (minimalist reprise of a children song well known among French speakers, I need to pay more attention to this album)
Gong - Inner Temple (magical moment from my favorite Gong album)
Aranis - Ouverture (intro to one original and mesmerizing album)
Die Knödel  - Waltz (waltzer) (listened to this song in the train 2 days ago, pretty good)
Fortrangt Hushaldsarbete - Himlen Säger (a Swedish RIO rarity that was part of the lost package that was shipped to my home by ReRUSA. A few scarce moments on the album grasp me but on the whole I cannot digest it)
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise (a little repetitive for my taste, probably listened to it too many times too Smile)
The Beatles - She Came in through the Bathroom Window (that's a twist on Abbey Road that I really love)
Van der Graaf Generator - Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus (fairly good bonus track on H to He, who am the only one. Probably the closest thing to jamming I heard from VdGG)
Pierre Lapointe - Untitled track (outro to La forêt des mal-aimés. 15 minutes of locust clipping wings noise recorded in the wild and then a short summer camp sing-along song. Very appropriate ending to this album)
Mägo de Oz - Costa da Morte (an uplifting song from Finisterra coming in when I start to think that the album is getting long)
Genesis - The Battle of Epping Forest (this song makes me feel schizophrenic)
Samla Mammas Manna  - Dundret Fröjder (intro to Maltid, not my favorite song off the album, a little long, but still good)

The first Rick Wright album is a forgotten treasure that is well worth owning, it includes an appearance from King Crimson man Mel Collins and Thin Lizzy/Roger Waters guitarist Snowy White.

And yes that Megadeth song and album is pretty different i would definitely recommend it if you like things like early Iron Maiden and 80's Black Sabbath

Seems you had an incredible shuffle (Earth W & F? Lol, I have some myself).
Can you take of few moments and rate, rank or comment on each?
Impressed with the Kaipa! Heathaze one of my favs, excellent lyrics! What a great finish with "Tangent" (I'll ignore Barracuda lol.)

Its a shuffle of all my genres in my Zune....but it does focus on the most played genre. Living in Seattle you have to pay homage to Heart....I think they are one of the best 70's hard rock bands.

I will edit my original post with your request.

A word of warning with Manring - his first few albums have a big chunk of "New Age" sound to them.

Dunaj is a Czech band, no clue how easy/hard it will be to find them.

Stench of Honey is from "On Land and In the Sea".

appreciate you going back and reviewing! And your sentiments!
It is a way for us all to start to grasp the enormity of great music out there that we may be totally unaware of!
Going to start a sub part to this in January. Challengability and Diversity. Basicaly, "could you replay anybody's entire shuffle?" I could come close with yours. 21 of 'em.
IMO your best track by far was "The Tangent" of course you had "Shine" too!
Garden of Dreams is Flower/Power right? I found that album a solid 4.
Some albums simply shouldn't be shuffled or taken out of context. Flower being one of them. But everyone seems to be notating that!

Nice set, some I have, some I'd like to have and few I don't know.  Maybe we should have a shuffle, whack the stuff you don't have, shuffle yours and tack on to 25 tracks.
It would go something like this:
Miles Davis - Freddie Freeloader
Jethro Tull - And the Mouse Police Never Sleeps
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise
The Beatles - She Came in through the Bathroom Window
Genesis - The Battle of Epping Forest

First additions:
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band - Korn Ring Finger
Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit -Yield Not to Temptation
Marillion - Heart of Lothian/Wide Boy/Curtain Call
The Beatles - And Your Bird Can Sing
Joni Mitchell - Taming The Tiger

I'm stopping at 10.  25 takes too long.

Ah what the heck:
Jeff Beck - Shapes Of Things
Nine Inch Nails - Four Of Us Are Dying
The Flower Kings - Just This Once
Allan Holdsworth & Gordon Beck - Sundays
Roger Eno - After Dark

10 to go and no, no commentary.
Rick Wakeman - The Ten Commandments
Synergy - Ancestors
Monade - Entre Chien et Loup
Jean-Luc Ponty - N'Fan Mot
Anthony Phllips - Openers

Roxy Music - Grey Lagoons
Pierre Bensusan - La Femme Cambrée (The Arched Woman)
Jon Anderson - Midnight Dancing
Kansas - Not Man Big
Pere Ubu - Rhapsody in Pink

Cool idea—it got me up off my butt doing stuff I’ve been putting off doing.

I'll list the tracks, a bit of an explanation, maybe a rating. I doubt I’ll bother with year, maybe decade….This is stuff from my “Various” playlist in Foobar.  Not my complete catalogue by any means, just the odds and ends not in album folders.

 1. Shriekback  “Hand on my Heart”  -- first song on the playlist, have to start somewhere right?  Shriekback is a great 80s post-punk outfit, and one of my most favourite bands ever.  4/5

2. Gerry Rafferty  “Mattie’s Rag” – a very nice and smart pop tune from the 70s; Rafferty is an underrated guy  3.8/5

3. Art of Noise  “Close (to the Edit)” – I have a lot of 80s alternative, apparently…I did like this bunch. (Foobar seems to think they are “hip hop”. LOL!)  3.5/5

4. Guess Who “Albert Flasher”  -- Hey...I’m Canadian, eh?  3/5

5. Guess Who  “No Time”  -- see above, but a far better song.  J  3.5/5

6. David Newman  “Serenity—opening credits” -  um…see my avatar. I love this soundtrack.  4.5/5

7. Thomas Dvorak   “The Castle”  -- okay,  so I have a soundtrack from a PC game.  Machinarium.  It is actually a very cool soundtrack, and a great game.  So there.  3/5

8. Psychedelic Furs   “The Ghost in You”  -- one of my fave groups from the 80s; I loved Mirror Moves (the album)  4/5

9. Porcupine Tree  “The Colour of Air” – all I will say is that a year ago I really had no idea who these guys were.  A year later…well…sometimes chance encounters can change your perspective entirely.  This will not be the only PT that crops up in the 25, I’m sure.  3.8/5

10. The Smiths  “What Difference Does it Make” – ah Morrissey…does angst almost as well as Hammill.  Great song.  4.7/5

11. PT  “Every Home is Wired”  -- toldja.  3.7/5

12.  PT   “Four Chords that Made a Million”  -- the playback is on shuffle, I swear.  However, not so fond of this piece.  3/5

13. Shriekback  “Mercy Dash” – Shriekback put out two phenomenal albums back to back: Jamscience (1984) and Oil and Gold (1985).  This is from Jamscience.  5/5

14.  Carlos Santana  “Smooth” – lives up to its name, a very smooth pop tune, great stuff. 3.5/5

15. Focus  “Hocus Pocus” – er…. Novelty factor.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  3/5

16. Mudcrutch  “Scare Easy”—Mudcrutch is a band of Tom Petty’s, and this is probably THE best straight-up rock song I’ve heard in decades.  Absolutely perfect—a real pro at work.  6/5

17. David Bowie  “Station to Station” – ahh finally my music player has clued in.  Wink   The great opening track from one of Bowie’s best albums.  4.8/5

18. Shriekback  “Suck” – another from Jamscience, raucous, loud and dissonant.  4/5

19. David Bowie  “TVC15” – another from Station to Station, excellent example of Berlin-era Bowie.  4/5

20. PT  “Normal” – from the Nil Recurring EP.  Now *this* is the sort of stuff from PT that grabbed my attention a year ago.  I love this song, I love how Wilson has an apparently inexhaustible supply of melodic hooks, I love his trick of revisiting ideas, and his arrangement chops...!!!!!  5/5

21. Spandau Ballet  “Gold” – meh, doesn’t really stand up, probably won’t last much longer on the playlist.  2.8/5

22. Duran Duran  “A View to a Kill”  -- theme song for a Bond film.  I kinda like it.  3.5/5

23. Dire Straits  “Sultans of Swing”  -- it was grossly overplayed for years, but after a decade or so of not hearing it…it really stands up.  Knopfler is a seriously talented guy. 4.5/5

24. Stewart Copeland  “Gong Rock” – some time in the mid-80s, Copeland traveled through Africa making recordings and hooking up with musicians from that continent.  The result was an album called “The Rhythmatist”, a superb collection of African-inspired rock that probably should be better known than it is.  4/5

25. Figgy Duff  “Auntie Mary’s/Brother’s Jig Medley”  --  a 1980s folk-rock outfit from Newfoundland whose first two albums are almost as good as anything Steeleye Span put out.  4.2/5

(Heh...as I format this and the stuff continues to play, #26 is "The Cinema Show"... LOL )

IMO your best track by far was "The Tangent" of course you had "Shine" too!
Garden of Dreams is Flower/Power right? I found that album a solid 4.
Some albums simply shouldn't be shuffled or taken out of context. Flower being one of them. But everyone seems to be notating that!
Steve

No problem Steve......well since Garden of Dreams is a series of individual tracks, it gets included in the shuffle or broken up. Can't control that, I am diving more into my vinyl lately so because of that I may not be able to play your game in the future....my turntable will not shuffle LOL

This was pretty fun, must do it again one day.

1. Joanna Newsom - Sprout and the Bean 5/5 (her weakest album, but this is one of my favorite songs, absolutely beautiful)
2. Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Midnight Black Earth 4/5 (pretty spooky ambient-jazz, nice!)
3. At the Drive-In - Transatlantic Foe 3/5 (huh, haven't listened to this in ages, sounds ok)
4. First Aid Kit - Wills of the River  4/5 (sort of like a female version of Fleet Foxes, excellent album, good track)
5. Wigwam - Hard & Horny All-niter 4/5 (not necessarily Wigwam at their best, but this is one hilarious song)
6. Pekka Pohjola - Huono Sää / Se Tanssii 5/5 (Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, one of Pohjola's finest compositions)
7. The Cinematic Orchestra - All That You Can Give 3/5 (pretty good nu-jazz)
8. The Cure - Lullaby 5/5 (my favorite The Cure song!)
9. Echo Is Your Love - Song Against Hate and Rockets 4/5 (moody, female-fronted post-punk/indie-rock, good stuff)
10. The National - Friend of Mine 3/5 (great album, but I'm not all that enthusiastic about the song)
11. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Salty Bean Fumble x/5 (haven't listened to this much, I quite like their style though)
12. Asobi Seksu - Pink Cloud Tracing Paper 4/5 (me likey! shoegaze!)
13. Subtle - The Ends 3/5 (some kind of pop / hip-hop / experimental stuff, Subtle are always quite OK)
14. Värttinä - Neitonen 3/5 (Finnish folk music, not bad at all, but this album has better tracks)
15. Air - Ghost Song 3/5 (Air at their proggiest, sounds a lot like Pink Floyd)
16. Gidon Kremer - Revirado 5/5 (Gidon Kremer plays Piazzolla, this is such a beatiful composition)
17. Iron & Wine - Love and Some Verses 4/5 (singer-songwriter stuff, quite good)
18. Ulver - Høyfjeldsbilde 3/5 (Ulver goes neo-folk)
19. Do Make Say Think - Make 3/5 (this album was somewhat of a disappointment after You, You're A History in Rust. Nevertheless, they're still my favorite post-rock band.)
20. Flora Purim - Baia 3/5 (hmm, yeah, Flora Purim knows her stuff)
21. Trio Töykeät - Get a Life x/5 (Finnish piano jazz, quite energetic, but needs more listens)
22. Bon Iver - For Emma 4/5 (more singer-songwriter music, "For Emma" is a fine tune)
23. Fiori-Séguin - Chanson pour Marthe 5/5 (almost as good as Harmonium, Serge Fiori can do no wrong?)
24. The Mars Volta - Tourniquet Man 2/5 (humm, not a fan of the album)
25. Yann Tiersen - Childhood 4/5 (from the soundtrack to the film Goodbye, Lenin! -  simple, but beautiful)

Wow.  Penguin Cafe Orchestra.  I think I had their first album, way way back.  Don't really remember anything about it though.

This is great. Having so much fun chattin' with you all and finding more excellent music!
ergaster, 1st off I agree about Rafferty (Steelers Wheel).
I love Burton Cummings voice, I am particular to "Do You Miss Me Darlin'?"
Whatchya got against Hocus Pocus? It's not Hamburger but it is still very talented, especially in the vocals.
Not the biggest Petty fan but I have the 2008 Mudcrutch on it's way!
Nicely done with your reviews! Spandau Ballet has a couple nice songs.
Copeland. Nice. You held your integrity to the shuffle!
I'd only be able to replay 11 of your tracks!
Can't wait to see your Jan. shuffle!

Joanna Newsom Have One On Me 2010 on it's way!
I see that  Pekka Pohjola played with Oldfield! I have 5 Pekka albums on their way. Without Composers we'd be lost in a lost world as Moody's would say. I grabbed Classical Planet Mozart The Complet Violin Concertos Gidon Kremer. Will this do? Can't find the Seguin but anything as good as Harmonium....
Great shuffle! Thanks!

Thanks Steven!  It was fun, and it reminded me of a couple of things:  I rarely listen to the mix randomly like that, and I occasionally think I should add more stuff to it (non-PT that is...obsession is a sad, sad thing...) that should be there and isn't yet. So thanks for the initiative!  Smile

And cull some stuff that I really don't care for.  I'll try to do that before the January round!

I was never a Petty fan either, still not really, but "Scare Easy" just blew my head off.  It transcends genres.  The lyrics are awesome too!  ("I'm just a loser at the top of my game..."  -- wow.)

You are the final original shuff 25! You came right to the game with some powerhouse songs! Firth, MusicalBox, Quiet Earth!
I absolutely admire a great deal Mr. Leonard Bernstien! Prelude from West Side Story is one hell of a piece of music. It still stuns me to this day how the orchestra was even able to play it. Some Brand X and DT. Nice. Searched for Platt Opus to no avail. Found Sigur Ros discography. Before I snatch it can you tell me what I'd be getting? Lol

Alright, here's my 25 for January:

1. The Fool - Neutral Milk Hotel. 3/5, nice track although nothing fantastic.
2. The Dawn Of A Drunk Bum - Byron. 3/5, same as above; good, but not one of my favourites of theirs.
3. Family Snapshot - Peter Gabriel. 5/5, perhaps Gabriel's finest moment; definitely one of them.
4. Gem - Time Of Orchids. 4/5, awesome track and I love the drum work.
5. Brick By Brick [LIVE] - Katy Perry. 4/5, awesome acoustic live version of a great pop track. Haters gon' hate.
6. Salvador Sanchez (Acoustic) - Sun Kil Moon. 3/5, great bonus track for a remaster, although not as good as the original studio version.
7. Immortelle and Paper Caravelle - Kayo Dot. 5/5, incredibly slow and beautiful drifting piece.
8. Wayfarer - Kayo Dot. 5/5, perhaps their best ever track.
9. Stupid Dream - Porcupine Tree. 2.5/5, pretty indifferent to this one as it's a 30 second instrumental.
10. Jungle Ride - Fish. 3/5, not a bad track, although it's a bit repetitive and the chorus is kinda cheesy.
11. Garden Party - Marillion. 4/5, love the synths and the guitar solo
12. Hjartaro Hamast - Sigur Ros. 4.5/5, beautiful post-rock as expected from SR.
13. Discipline - Nine Inch Nails. 2/5, not bad, but definitely not my type of song.
14. That Voice Again - Peter Gabriel. 4/5, nice little track.
15. Hljomalind - Sigur Ros. 3/5, good post-rock again.
16. Vocari Dei - Pain Of Salvation. 3/5, a collection of PoS fans calling 'God's answering machine' and leaving their personal messages with a piano/guitar accompaniment. Works better in the album than it does alone.
17. Faceless Ones - Obscura. 5/5, skull-crushingly heavy tech-death, brilliantly done.
18. In The Flesh - Pink Floyd. 3/5, not bad, but not that great either. Never been a fan of most of The Wall, though.
19. Nine Cats - Porcupine Tree. 4/5, one of the best tracks from On The Sunday Of Life.
20. Aurelius (the Daemon) - Spoonion. 3/5, not good but not bad for a demo.
21. The Sky Moves Sideways [LIVE] - Porcupine Tree. 5/5, One of the best ever live performances, and one of the best ever prog tracks.
22. The Ancient (Giants Under The Sun) - Yes. 5/5, one of my favourites from Tales.
23. Chemical - New Order. 3/5, one of my least favourite tracks from Republic, although not too bad.
24. Moonloop [LIVE] - Porcupine Tree. 3/5, great live version of a studio improv.
25. No Way Out - Peter Gabriel. 5/5, stunning lyrics and perfectly executed imagery.

Well Plat Opus is by a little supergroup consisting of John Myung, Derek Sherinian, and Ty Tabor (of King's X). They have a great progressive metal-fusion sound. Sigur Ros is probably one of the most famous post-rock bands. Their sound is very slow and ambient, with some really happy and uplifting songs, and some very dour and melancholy songs. A great buy if you want to just chill out with music!

January Shuffle

here they are as they popped up - a bit confrontingly diverse here but it shows my diverse taste in music. 13 are prog/gish out of the 25.

The Walk Pt 2 – Gazpacho – 4/5 beautiful, melancholy, peaceful

Hilf Mir – Rammstein – 3/5 heavy, pounding, repetitious

Ava Adore – Smashing Pumpkins  - 2/5 abysmal, grating, saccharine

Don’t Die Before I do – Rammstein - 4/5 contrasts female and male vocals really well.

Cherry Bomb – Runaways – 5/5 classic, chick rock excellence.

The Emperor’s Clothes – Spock’s Beard 4/5 – great track from X. brassy, quiet, builds powerfully.

Prologue – Chicago Transit Authority – 4/5 chants of crowds, unusual, builds to great melody

Scorched Earth – Van Der Graaf Generator – 5/5 awesome, Hammill is brilliant, amazing time sig

Dance Me To The End of Love – Leonard Cohen – 3/5 I prefer this newer version, the raspy old voice is so effective, this track oddly sombre here.

Rabbit Proof Fence – Peter Gabriel - 2/5 – dull, builds painfully slow, music to fall asleep to

What I Heard – Blondie – 4/5 great new song, strong beat, she sounds awesome for her age.

The Return – Peter Gabriel---- 1/5  - note: delete CD ‘Long Walk Home’ from music database.

Landslide – Smashing Pumpkins – 3/5 not bad rhythm, still not as good as other SP tracks.

Pachuco Cadaver – Captain Beefheart – 3/5 – weird, humorous, nice guitar work here, wonderful sax.

From The Darkness – Spock’s Beard – 4/5 - great time sig, singing is fantastic, drums are ace!

Love Doesn’t Frighten Me – Blondie – 4/5 – another new one from Blondie worth hearing.

13 Reasons – Relocator – 4/5 - from ‘Honour Thy Drummer’ great instrumental, heavy, time sigs off the scale, keyboards are terrific.

Kamikaze – Spock’s Beard – 5/5 - Ryo’s composition from X, amazing musicianship, keys are incredible.

Ohne Dich – Rammstein – 3/5 - a quiet one from Reise Reise and not too bad, nice strings, builds to crawling distortion.

The Walk Pt 1 – Gazpacho – not best part of the album but still has great moments.

I Can’t Stand The Rain – Guy Sebastian – 4/5 - Aus artist with a Memphis feel. He does a great vocal on this classic, real jazzy sax on this, and strong chorus.

Bird On A Wire – Leonard Cohen –3/5 – live from the London show, an old raspy reflective man crooning slowly and patiently an old fave.

Money Honey – Lady GaGa – 3/5 - yeah why did I load this? It has a sexy feel and very buzzing synth, she can sing when she wants to, cool retro feel.

Moskau – Rammstein – 3/5 - ah yes, this one rocks, with a cool melody and infectious riffing. Nasty sounding  vocals though I love that chorus!

Leave Now – In Progress – quite a nice song, with odd little effects. Peaceful way to end the session. Very strong melody too and upbeat music, choppy riffs and a wonderfulinstrumental break.

I'm editing this post to add ratings.
1. Queen - White Queen : Haven't listened to the first 2 Queen albums much. 2/5
2. Sleepy sun - Open Eyes : First time I've heard this track, but that may change. 2.5/5
3. Led Zeppelin - Walter's Walk : As a Zepp album Coda is a low point, but it's still fun 3/5
4. The Kinks - Suzannah's Still Alive : Not a tune I'm a fan of as much as other early stuff 3/5
5. Claude Debussy - La Mer Part V : I barely had time to type this in before it finished. Lovely tho. 3/5
6. Genesis - Alone Tonight : I'm a fool for a soppy Genesis ballad. 4/5
7. XTC - Holly Up On Poppy : Again, not an XTC album I'm familiar with. Catchy tune. 3/5
8. The Rolling Stones - Stop Breaking Down : Why is there only songs I don't know? 2.5/5
9. Peter Gabriel - The Power of my Heart : I don't plan on keeping this disc. 1/5
10. Grizzly Bear - On a Neck, On a Spit : This album can't touch the magic of Veckatimest. 3.5/5
11. Phoenix - Party Time : Slick and upbeat. 3/5
12. Paul McCartney  - Dear Friend : Even the lesser of vintage Macca gives me a smile. 3.5/5
13. Deerhunter - Focus Dream : The pattern of stuff I don't know. 2.5/5
14. The Hollies - Too Many People : Ditto. Hollies have a great sound but are very hit or miss. 2/5
15. Beach Boys - Sloop John B : What to say? An undisputed classic pop song. 4/5
16. The Cars - Bye Bye Love : Can I get any further from Prog? Cool track. Cool band. 4/5
17. Fang Island - Life Coach : This album makes me giggle. It's stupid fun but not annoying. 3.5/5
18. Genesis - Dodo/Lurker : A highlight from Abacab. Even tho the lyrics are bad. 4/5
19. Radiohead - I Will (Los Angeles Version) : I didn't know I had this. Cool take and breezy drums. 3.5/5
20. The Beatles - I'm Down (live in Japan) : Not a lot of live Beatles out there. Just like the recording. 5/5
21. Elton John - Grey Seal : Solid, albeit exhausting album IMO. 3/5
22. Weird Al - All About the Pentiums : Not the best choice, but the guy's a genius. 2.5/5
23. Akira Yamaoka - Amnion : if you've never heard any Silent Hill soundtracks, do so. 3/5
24. Genesis - Cuckoo Cocoon (live) : Like The Wall, this album succeeds on stage very well. 5/5
25. Supertramp - From Now On : I've only recently got into Supertramp. Dig it. 3/5

1. Dark Suns - Free of You (Grave Human Genuine) - Haven't listened to this one in awhile. A bit of Opeth mixed with more atmospherics.
2. Chris Isaak - The End of Everything (Forever Blue) - Great Album, Great Voice, Good Song
3. Bob Dylan - Love Sick (Time Out of Mind) - Signature Song from Comeback Album. It's good, not great, trying for a Tom Waits vibe and not quite getting there. Actually stopped to listen to this one play.
4. Xavier Rudd - Food in the Belly (Food in the Belly) - Masterpiece modern folkish album. Australian one-man band is awesome to watch live. He's a one man band who plays lap steel, percussion, didge, and sing. Other albums aren't as strong as this one.
5. REM - Drive (Automatic for the People) - These guys are as pretentious as any prog band, but this song is really good.
6. Witchbreed - Book of Dreams (Descending Fires) - Pretty typical female-fronted metal from Portugal
7. Tool - Parabola (Lateralus) - No comments needed, me thinks.
8. Gong - Other Side of the Sky (Angel Egg) - Trippy stuff, I need to review this album soon.
9. Def Leppard - You Got Me Runnin' (High n' Dry) - So young, still pretty raw, though this song is already a little poppish
10. Antigone Rising - Broken (Antigone Rising) - Female Americana, I think this was a free sample album my wife got somewhere.
11. Jefferson Airplane - The Last Wall of the Castle - 2400 Fulton Street - This band is the definition of hippy music for me. Looser than CSN, edgier than most, a little bit dangerous. Average song from their compilation package
12. Steve Vai - For The Love of God (Passion and Warfare) - The greatest ballad from the shred era, perhaps the definitive song of a movement, perhaps of the instrument.
13. Brand X - Touch Wood (Unorthodox Behavior) - This one came up before, I think, out of 10000 songs. Wierd
14. Wishbone Ash - Outward Bound (Mother of Pearl) - Where did this come from???
15. Freddy King - Country Boy (HideAway-best of) - I love Freddy's style, he's actually my favorite of the 3 Kings of the Blues.
16. King Crimson - 1 ii 2 (Circus) - Just got this, among a glut of King Crimson. Gaining more appreciation for Fripp.
17. Kelly Willis - Heaven Bound (What I Deserve) - Very nice voice from an alt.country girl. Some of my wife's music.
18. Shawn Lane - The Hurt the Joy (The Tri-Tone Fascination) - Typical Lane ballad from an uneven album
19. Arcade Fire - In the Backseat (Funeral) - I dabble in this stuff but I like it much better in this kind of random play setting than actually taking in a whole album.
20. Pelican - Glimmer (What We All Come to Know) - These guys pretty much define post-metal for me.
21. Carolina Chocolate Drops - Why Don't You Do Me Right (Genuine Negro Jig) - This album is another masterpiece. It's old-time music played by a trio of young educated southern blacks. If you get a chance to see them live, do it. They're great
22. Pat Metheny - 45/8 (Letter from Home) Ok that wins craziest time signature.
23. James Taylor - Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight (Greatest Hits)  Essentially Singer Songwriter stuff
24. Cassandra Wilson - Drunk as Cooter Brown (Belly of the Sun)  One of my favorite voices still active. Not my favorite song or album by her, but still quite good.
25. Lyle Lovett - Memphis Morning (Step Inside This House) - Absolute Master Musician. I've seem him live more than any other major artist and I'm travelling a couple hundred miles to see him next month.

Wow, not much prog.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Food in the Belly...On it's way to me.
Steve Vai-Passion.. " " "
Fripp is in a league of his own.
19. That is what I say about several groups, Decemberists, Live. A whole album becomes monotonous!
Cannot locate Choc drop video.
22. Yeah, I guess so!
I could only replay 6 of your tracks!
Thanks! Looking forward to your Feb shuffle!

thought i'd give this another go today

1) Daniel Licht - Birthday Party (Dexter Soundtrack) - 8/10 - beautiful melody i love this soundtrack
2) VDGG - Lost - 6/10 - i never really get this song it has some great ideas but has a tendency to drag for me
3) Osanna - No Sei Vissuto Mai - 7/10 - great heavy prog song but poorly produced album
4) Rush - FaceUp - 6/10 - good song ruined by Geddy Lee's choice of synthesisers
5) Gong - Mad Monk - 5/10 - not a fan of recent Gong but this is one of the better songs on zero2infinity
6) Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark (Live At Donnington) - 7/10 - the best version of a classic Maiden song
7) King Crimson - Peace II - 7/10 - Love this album and love this version of Peace
8) VDGG - Afterwards - 7/10 - a simple Peter Hammel song but it's one of the nicer ones less aggressive than later on

12)Megadeth - Skin O My Teeth - 7/10 - Led Zep style song and one of their best Rock songs
13)Colin Hay - My Brilliant Feet - 6/10 - I like Colin Hay but this song is a little too much of a Paul Simon rip-off
14)Iron Maiden - The Angel And The Gambler - 4/10 - a good song but 10 Minutes of the same chorus is a bore
15)Bruce Dickinson - Cyclops - 5/10 - a strange attempt at psychadelia comes off very Black Sabbath
16)2112 Overture/Temples (Rush In Rio) - 8/10 - energetic performance in front of energetic crowds
17)Pink Floyd - Pigs On The Wing 2 (Live Oakland) - 7/10 - Snowy Whites guitar solo adds so much too this song
18)Metallica - Anaesthesia - 3/10 - an unnecessary bass solo
19)Yes - Starship Trooper (Live London 2009) - 9/10 - got to give a high rating for the show i was at!
20)Pink Floyd - Breathe - 9/10 - atmospheric song
21)Rush - Red Sector A - 8/10 - sad melancholic song one of the (few) good ones from this album
22)Steve Hillage - Fish - 6/10 - a nice short Jazz fusion interlude
23)The Beatles - Helter Skelter - 7/10 - heavy for the Beatles
24)Donovan - The Entertaining of a Shy Girl - 6/10 - nice folk song
25)Dave Brubeck - Pick Up Sticks - 7/10 - classic traditional Jazz
