You are a member of the group of people who are here because they like prog.
 
If you don't like essential prog bands that is what I can't understand.
 
I don't like Dream theatar, Marillion, Ayreon but I don't argue with people who likes them.

If you notice most of the bands I dislike were at the height of their popularity before I was a teenager. I think that is the key....

There are 2348 bands on the archive. Something for everbody I think!
Comparing Prog Bands to football teams is nonsensical..........................Wink

Rush is formed in 1968, even earlier then GG, KC, ELP and VDGG  if I'm well informed.Wink

Their first album was 1974,their first "prog" album was 1976.....Wink Their first album to be given official release in the UK was 1977....need I continue?

rush must have taken 10 years to hit top gear. Hemispheres was their first very good album :D

King Crimson do nothing for me as a whole. Yes, I like odd tracks,who wouldnt with a band with such an extensive catalogue. However because they are part of the Classic Prog scene I always feel slightly guilty for not appreciating them.

VDGG - eek! A combination of all the above. Hammill's vocal delivery drives me potty,the music is ponderous and dreary. Too "old-fashioned".....?

You are not proving anything. This has already been shown to be irrelevent,as Rush only became popular here much later.

Ehm... I wouldn't mention Juventus these days if I were you! Wink It's true they won their 29th Premier League (Serie A) championship last Sunday, but it's also true they're being investigated for a scandal involving, among other things, corruption of referees... They seriously risk being relegated next year - which I, as an AS Roma (very lukewarm) fan, would enjoy immensely!
 
Back IT... I think Tony enjoys quite a lot of bands, and if he doesn't like the "big ones" it doesn't bother me at all. After all, he's a Rush fan!Smile

Actually both of you are wrong. Although I do not necessarily agree with the statements Tony  gives, I can fully understand why he says them. Just the "Nonnie Nonnie" thing about Tull might be a bit misplaced. For the rest, they are his opinions, and as far as I know, they are just as valid as yours . After all who made you the ones to judge which to like to be able to post on the Forum.
 
GG and VdGG ARE difficult groups to get into. Yes does not do that much for me and KC 's 80's era bores me. Camel bores me to death from 1972 until 2020, Elp's first three albums, I love (not the rest , though) , but I find it hard to defend them against anybody attacking prog, and there are plenty more things I do not appreciate. >> you're going to ask the man with 1500 reviews because he does not appreciate the "Biggies" unconditionally (as you so plainly indicate that it should be the prime requisite) to also get out of the forum?
 
Because this sure sounds like this is also what you are asking of Tony.........

Here I am again.

I also don't like Camel, Genesis after Lab lies is boring, KC until Starless and bible black, but you have to like some period of "big" prog bands, because if you dont you are just pretending to like prog.
 
You can stay if you say that you like ELP! (love beach not included) LOL
