A Momentary Lapse of Reason was the first Pink Floyd album I knew about outside of Dark Side of the Moon. I loved Dark Side of the Moon, but when I listened to AMLoR, it didn't have the same feeling or strength to it that I expected, being a Floyd newbie at the time. Now, knowing it was without Roger Waters' superb direction, I can understand.

I'll admit it. I was much younger and much more naive way back when. I was let down when Supertramp released "... famous last words". I guess I was hoping that "Breakfast In America" was going to be their most pop souding album. In its own way, it is a good album but I was expecting them to move back to their "Crime Of The Century" ways. Exactly why I had these expectations, I don't know. I realize that I deserve to be mocked mercilessly for this.

I am also one of the ones that was disappointed in Floyd's "Momentary Lapse". I tried to love the album as I do the others. I did like it but it just wasn't Floyd.

Anything I've ever tried by Camel.  A few of their early LPs are highly recommended here but....blah.

The Wall goes without saying....the sound just isn't Floydian enough.  That said, I really liked The Final Cut, but more as a Roger Waters solo album with some, but not nearly enough, tasty Gilmour guitar.

The Return to Forever's Romantic Warrior....that cheezy late 70s production on top of the over-the-top technique for technique's sake execution....it's what fusion was leading up to and is, in essence, where the whole scene came to a crashing halt.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

After the brilliant "Machine Head" and "Made in Japan" "Who do we think we are" was a disappointment, and signs the band were breaking up. doesn't sound bad now, though!

Again a boring album lacking any kind of spark of inspiration, very unlike Floyd!! only Floyd album i don't own.

And Then There was...boring... bland pop..."Follow Me" - not likely!...do something, Phil..!!!! only Genesis album i don't own.

Supertramp-by-numbers.....extremely predictable and boring.

In The Wake of Poseidon. It just seems like a poor attempt at re-creating the first album. It has some good moments, but it is nothing in comparison to its predecessor.

I have never been dissapointed before, I always do a lot of research into an album before I buy it.

Yes - Tormato

I was a big fan before that album. After the magnificence of Going For The One, I expected great things. Uuggh! was I disappointed. The start of the fall from grace for this once great band.

Genesis - Abacab

My favourite band of all time! Even after Steve Hackett left, I thought And Then There Were Three and Duke were decent enough. But then came Abacab. The title track showed promise, with a nice solo from Mike Rutherford, but then...oh dear, oh dear, especially the appalling second side. What a disappointment!
There are probably more, but those two really stick in the mind.

Oh yes! Another one was Steve Howe - Beginnings

I loved his work with Yes, then I got this and...oh my god! What appalling vocals! And what a lack of memorable tunes. He is best in a band situation methinks. I have only heard one album by him since, and that was Turbulence. Better than Beginnings, but still average fare to these ears.

The latest big disappointment for me was New Model Army's CARNIVAL... it had such good reviews and I didn't find a single track on it that got to me because of new ideas- sounds like NMA RECYCLED, don't need it especially after the great "Eight"-CD.

Then, for sure, there was "Live in Bonn" from BJH "featuring Les Holroyd", see my review.

Supertramp disappointed me heavily with "It was the best of times", I was lucky not to have been at one of those shows, "Free as a bird" disappointed me, too, but I like it now.

I was disappointed with Marillion's "Afraid of Sunlight" when it came out, too, but I like it better now.

Dire Straits disappointed me everytime they came up with a new album after "Communique" but I've learned to love them all except "Alchemy" which is, was and will always be a bore for me.

Van Morrison disappointed me with a lot of stuff since ( last great one, in parts at least: ) Hymns to the Silence, but in Concert, at a good day, he's still divine.

Alan Parson's Project "EVE" was a big disappointment then as well as it is now, after so many years.

Elton John's "Made in England" was a big disappointment after the great "The One".

Steve Winwood disappointed me with every Virgin-release... his Island Albums are classics one and all.

Phil Collins disappointed me with nearly every bit after "Serious hits Live" apart from his Big-Band-project and one single cover-version of a Curtis Mayfield song ( "I've been trying" )

Should I go on or is it enuff ?

Every album that is denoted as a 'part 2', "II", etc.
Like with movies, part 1 is always the best... and most often a 'part 2' is only made to feed the cash machine.
Mike Oldfield, anyone? Dead

Jesus never managed to figure out the theremin either

Agree, but it's anyway a normal album.

I'd say  Robert Wyatt   Ruth is stranger than Richard

Agreed i like Tubular bells II even more than Tubular bells I. Tubular bells III also has its moments.

The album Led Zeppelin I had 3 worthy successors.  ELO II is a good successor of ELO, Styx II is better than Styx. SFAM II is also very good but maybe not a good example.

Too many to name....unfortunatley..!!

The Mars Volta - Frances the mute...jeez I tried, but it is simply boring to me
DT- Train of thought ..or is that 'Train of puppets'?
Genesis - Abacab....aaaahh 'Whodunnit' is the worst thing they ever did.
Yes - open your eyes (just crap) and 90125 (when it came out I was horrified...a pop album!)
Agree about Supertramp, everything since 'Brother where you bound' has been fairly boring.
Spocks beard - Snow - agree that it is HIGHLY overrated, it is simply too 'samey' all the way through, so much repitition and the songs are nothing compared to there previous releases, it is because it is the 'big concept 2CD' thing that it got attention, but in reality they (Morse) only wrote enough material for one CD, the fact that he did it again with 'Testimony' was staggering to me. Great! Concept album, huge! but you still need 100+ mins of songs!!!

The most horrendous/disappointing albums
1. Genesis: Abacab (it took me a long time to swallow that its really Genesis that played it. Off course, I forgive Genesis for Me and Sarah Jane). All other subsequent albums are much better than Abacab!
2. Yes: 90125 (by that time I knew what to expect from the big bands in the eighties when girls were wearing big plastic earrings and guys following square-shaped hair-do, and Jon is wearing all white dress!. Off course, album wise, Big Generator and Union are the worst. But 90125 really disappointed me-- though its not that bad.
3. Pink Floyd: Final Cut-- unthinkably disappoiinting trash with a lot of Waters bulls**t to make it sound 'deeeeep'.
4. Rush: Power Window. I stopped listening to Rush completely for more than 10 years after Power Windows. Power Mac! I would have trashed Rush completely (would have been totally unfair)-- but I decided to revisit Rush and now I maintain a full collection.
5. Flower Kings (overall): I thought I discovered a great band (from this forum) and took the pain of collecting its major albums to realise that FK is seriously lacking inspiration in most of the albums.
