If I had to guess, I would say Trump had a hair stylist on retainer.

Which leads me to question the skill set of the stylist if that's the case.  Ermm

That said, politicians going on about who pays more taxes (especially compared to the average citizen) is silly.  Politicians make tax rules.  Everybody's goal is to pay the least amount.  That's certainly mine when it comes to taxes.  I don't know why paying more is supposed to be noble.

Bourbon on the rocks here.

The debate tonight is a train wreck. Trump is up to his usual tricks.

Trump is a disaster but he scored with his base. But not with the swing voters. Whew.

Summary: There was shouting with lots of interruptions and name calling. What were the issues they talked about?

I"ll admit, I only watched about 40 minutes of the debate, but I would say Biden won by being calm and reasonably competent. On the other hand, I would say Trump won because he did his schtick very well and constantly talking/interrupting did drown out things that could potentially harm him. But yikes really.

I'm not sure how people can still be undecided in this election at this point.

The moderator for the next debate should have a switch to cut off the microphone of someone talking out of turn.

I might be stating the obvious here but Trump refused to condemn the white supremacists because they make up a good portion of his base. He doesn't want to bite the hands that feed him.

I think Biden missed a few opportunities to land punches that were there for the taking (like asking Trump if he is so sure he's going to win, what's scaring him so much about mail in ballots). His attempt to bring in a personal touch by evoking Beau Biden's service in the military also backfired when Trump turned it into an attack on Hunter.

But the sentiment I get from reading Fox or National Review's summaries of the debate is that (a) even they are tired that Trump's only MO seemed to be to sharply interrupt and pivot to avoid the punch as also his insistence on doubling down on talking points re the election that the Right finds really hard to have to defend and (b) the said MO was not going to sway people he needed to persuade.  And IF the polls are right, it would make Trump the one in need of persuading people to vote for him, not the other way round.

I also felt Trump lied/made up stuff way more than in 2016.  He was also more tense.  He didn't have a record to defend in 2016 and he was seemingly happy at times to let Clinton prattle on to paint the image of her being academic and out of touch with the people.  He was OTOH anxious to stop Biden landing the punch and therefore interrupted constantly and also made up stuff at such a rate that even Wallace couldn't control him.  I really wonder what the other debates are going to look like if even Wallace had such a fight on his hands.

I think the biggest takeaway is that 45 signaled that white supremacists should "stand by."  And Biden kept turning the discussion to the people, not 45 or himself.
