Hyperbole asside i find the Turn of a Friendly Card by Alan Parson Project to be the best melody ever. What do you think is the best melody ever...

Why i think the Turn of a Friendly Card is becouse the vocal melody and the guitar and piano melody is woven so well together. Managing the pastoral and hymn like qualities to sparr very well. Aslo has a nice music hall feel, swan like tranquility. And Chris Rainbows vocal is to die for. Everything works in the title track.

Best line of Lyrics

"But the game never ends when your whole world depends
On the turn of a friendly card"

King Crimson - Trio
or
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Storm (intro)
"Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar."

My favourite melody is the guitar solo of King Crimson's The Night Watch. But also the whole song is full of great melodies. Besides, it teaches me a new English word I have never heard before or after again: Blunderbuss!

Northern Lights - Renaissance springs to mind from the distant past. Carpet of the Sun quite tuneful too! However, if I put my mind to it I could probably think of hundreds, as no doubt you folks could too. I'll have a ponder over the next few weeks, now the thread's been launched.

To me it´s vocal parts in Wigwam´s Losing Hold. So sad, but still has a lots of hope.

There's hundreds. I couldn;t choose just one. The Genesis catalogue alone is strewn with monets of melodic Genesis, often courtesy of Mr Banks.

But beyond that, here's a few...

Nights in White Satin - Moody Blues
Northern Lights - Renaissance
Soon - Yes
Joybringer - Manfred Manns Earth Band
In the wake of Posseidon - King Crimson
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I'm quite fond of the guitar part in Bill Bruford > One of a Kind > The Sahara of Snow (Part 1):

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.
