The Running Wild song is great, too.

Epping Forest all day, son. A very hated track that I personally LOVE, and one of my favorite moments off of SEBT. If only they left off More Fool Me, it would be a perfect prog record...Wink Cool.

See, I'm the polar opposite, I really like More Fool Me and can't stand Epping Forest.

Yes it is a very good song, they were a very good band, most of the German metal bands are.

Early Scorpions for example is in my 70s hard rock Trilogy along with 70s Uriah Heep & Wishbone Ash.

The Manowar and Johnny Horton obviously added just for comedic value, that said the Horton song is still a great singalong, still a fav from hearing it as a kid.

But as a big fan of metal, every time I hear any ridiculous overblown Manowar song I just burst out laughing and think of Spinal Tap.

Count me as Epping Forest sceptic. Not hater - sceptic. I LIKE this song, at times I even enjoy all its parts and quirks. But I don't think it's good enough to compete with other SEBTP classics, it lacks direction sometimes. Excellent bits are mixed with merely "good" ones.

This time I'll go with less complex The Battle of Evermore which has just fantastic atmosphere and arrangements. Tolkien-Zeppelin marriage at its best.

I only know the first two songs in the poll and I'm going with Genesis. Smile

It is that atmosphere which makes it ny favourite Led Zeppelin song of all time. The first time I heard it, I was shocked at how good it was and how it made me feel and how it still makes me want to go for a walk in the forest, luckily I live right next to lots of forest.

That's perfectly okay, it was supposed to be a two horse race. But do listen to the Running Wild song. You might like it :)

I tend to think of highlands, hills, valleys and mountain ranges. Still the same boat! Definitely a "fantasy" piece with loads of nature undertones.

^^ It'll be interesting to see if "Running Wild" picks up any votes against the two mighty giants of prog at the top of the poll. It could be an epic battle. Smile

Yes, exactly so. And ironically that one LZ song contained imagery for me in a way that no prog album ever did. I got a similar vibe from Grantchester Meadows, that also made me want to go outdoors.

EXACTLY how I feel. Love Zeppelin too but voted Genesis because so many people hate this song. LOL: I actually have the Johnny Horton record, it was my dad's and one of his favorites.
I was 7 or 8 when he used to play it on my folks' stereo console. Now that I'm grown I realize the lyrics very well might be offensive to a lot of people on this site. But I can still hear my father (died in '87) singing:

"Yeah, they ran through the briars
And they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes
Where the rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast
That the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico"

I'll take Battle of Evermore. Zeppelin and Sandy Denny. Next would be Johnny Horton.

We are very much on the same page. I've got Sandy playing in the car right now actually.
