Greg Lake for me, as I think he's the most consistently good at both bass and vocals.  As far as I'm concerned, he's horribly underrated as a bassist.

Admittedly, I like Squire and Wetton better as bassists by a slight margin, but I like Lake's vocals better.

I have to concur about the omission of Les Claypool and Jack Bruce, though I probably would have still voted for Lake.

I love Chris squires vocals so would have to put him at the top of the list especially as he is unchallenged IMHO on the bass.

Tony Levin, best bassist/backing vocalist. Considering the complexity of what he has to play, and his ability to do such perfect harmonies simultaneously, I feel he deserves to be up there with the rest of them.

I voted for Wetton for his ability to play bass, sing, and deal with a young angry Fripp interupting him with loud dissonant chords.

A duh. Jeffrey.

Of these, hmm. Instinct would imply Lake. Waters is a better singer, Squire is a better player (Geddy Lee is a WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better player than singer).

But it does say balanced, doesn't it? Wetton.

Wasn't the singer on the Maxophone album also the bass players? I love the vocals there.

For his composing talent, rather than bass playing - who remembers Beethoven or Tchaikovski for their piano-playing?

For me it´s Chris Squire mates! But Geddy Lee would get my vote too if I could as would John Wetton!

And where´s Michael Rutherford?
