Definately try to get Atem which is the album that is on the cusp of the early material and their symphonic period.
There is a compilation that includes the single Ultima Thule pts 1&2 which is from the Atem period.
Atem,Force Majeure,Ricochet,Phaedra,Rubycon,Stratosfear and Encore are my favourites.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

I have only Rubycon at the moment, but if all the others that Stonebeard has are that good, he could well be right

All their abums from Electronic Meditation up to ca. 1980-81 are worth having, including their soundtracks and livealbums. Encore (or Green Desert) is probably the safest bet as next album for you, Stonebeard. But if you love Alpha Centauri as much as I do, Zeit and Atem is.

I think that Phaedra and Rubycon are the only albums required to appreciate this band. They are excellent, hypnotic and beautiful.

I even love the New-Agey bits in the 80s and 90s (even the sax solos ). I put essentially everything I don't have up until Hyperborea, as well as some of the better-rated 80s and 90s and 00s material.

I lost track of them after 1986 (Underwater Sunlight). I like their early stuff very much ("Birth of Liquid Plejades" could be their best song), but my favourite album is Rubycon, very ahead of its times. As for the 1980s album, I'm really fond of "Hyperborea".

Currently listening to Force majeur, but I can honestly say I am not impressed, I do like elements, but it's all a basic sound, I also heard the same on previous and later albums, if you like it, than you'll probably like all the other albums, but for me it's too much the same. Nice but not great. Actually rather boring.
But if you enjoy it, that's all for the better, keep enjoying it and proceed.

^Ha-ha!
Yes, thanks a lot Tuxon! For your handclaps and kind words to all
of us who; unlike you, enjoy rather boring, basic, more of the same
kind of music.

I enjoy a little TD once in a while, but best "band" ever? No.
Maybe best synth program operators ever though.

For them to be the best band ever, they'd have to make music, not sound effects. ;-)

^Never thought of it that way before. Must be because I've actually listened to them.

If they only wrote Mysterious Semblance At The Strand Of Nightmares and then quit forever, I would still be eternally grateful.
