Topic: Tool Album Artwork Posted: November 25 2009 at 12:05 |
Tool's four full length studio albums. Which of these albums has the artwork that you like most?
I'm expecting this to be a very close one between Lateralus and 10,000 Days.

^ He said 'artwork', not 'packaging'. The reason why i can't pick ''10,000 Days'' is because that cover artwork was already an Alex Grey painting beforehand, and the Tool guys just plastered it onto the case. Now, that isn't a bad thing, and I may even use already existing artwork for my own records at some point, but this is Tool we're talking about, and they usually take a lot of time customizing everything to their specifications. With ''10,000 Days'' it seemed not as well thought-out, and as a result, not as in sync with the music itself. But that's just me. The artwork on the INSIDE of the packaging is much cooler, though I don't really know what the OP was asking about specifically, and if only cover artwork applies. La te ra lus is great, because Alex Grey and Adam Jones collaborated heavily on that, and it really suits the music found within. So much is happening in that painting, and it truly is breathtaking for me to look at.

Lateralus, not just because it fits the music perfectly, but also because it's just really good. The first time i saw 'god' written in the guys brain, it blew my mind 10,000 days is a fantastic album, but as p0mt3 said, it does sorta feel like they just platered an Alex Grey on the cover

I wasn't asking anything specifically at all actually, any kind of art in the album's packaging will do. I also think the artwork and packaging of 10,000 Days basically are the same, as every single detail of the packaging is well-thought and contains art.
I really agree with you on how the Lateralus artwork suits the music very well. Artwork of albums really seems to have a huge impact on my musical exerience. I think Lateralus artwork is much more "intense" than the artwork of let's say Ænima. Because of this I think the music on Lateralus also sounds more intense and diverse.

10000 days. However 1 of my brothers is colour blind and has trouble with the Alex Grey 3D images and my other brother is blind in 1 eye and doesn't get it at all. The photography is just beautiful.

Lateralus, the artwork goes so well with the music. The vinyl version of Lateralus is also kick ass!

Aenema, I really enjoy how it has the picture of Arizona bay.
