As long as I've been here, I've seen a few threads on avatars, but I do not recall seeing one on the nature of our user names.

I'd be delighted to hear the enchanting tales that led to bizarre user names like rushfan4, Dean, Ivan_Melgar_M, Mr ProgFreak, progkidjoel and Tony R.

Seriously...what of you weird-os like Negoba, Atavachron, Garion81, p0mt3, The Doctor, A Person, Windhawk, UMUR, ZowieZiggy, sinkadotentree, ClemofNazareth, birdwithteeth11 and so forth?

Does mine really require an explanation?

Anyone who has listened to "The Lamb" knows where my username comes from.

This should be an intersting thread, though.  Some of these usernames on PA are quite cryptic.

My user name references the homonymous German prog metal band.

I think we should let the respective users do the explanations.

Mine certainly has nothing to do with conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

I agree.  It could just be some strange coincidence that Slartibartfast is Brian's nickname from his honey.  Who knows.  Wink

I'm afraid that mine is no more interesting than the fact that I'm a British-sci-fi dork.  Embarrassed

When I signed up to this site I had no idea at all for a username.I wanted something with the word prog in it,but something a bit different. For some strange reason I thought of a proctologist(don't ask me why cause I still don't knowConfused) and just twisted it to TheProgtologist.

I didnt realize that the username I put in would then become my forum posting name, for some reason I thought that would be created separately.  So, I used the id I was assigned for school because I knew I would remember it and never cared enough to change it to something else
