Shadowlands is great. Thus, Glass Hammer.

Never been a great SB fan but Glass Hammer were brilliant up to and inc Shadowlands ,best retro prog band I've come across ( I don't count Par Lindh Project as 'retro'). Recently not so bothered but Chronomotree,Lex Rex and Shadowlands remain firm favourites of mine.

I like both but prefer GH. They've had a few weaker albums along but their best albums (Lex Rex, Shadowlands, If and Inconsolable Secret) are great.

The Beard for sure. While Glass Hammer are talented I've always felt their albums were a bit too clinical sounding. SB has more fun.

SB are ok but no more (with the exeption of V) whilst Glass Hammer have produced several great albums (Lex Rex, Shadowlands, Inconsolable Secret). So Hammer it is.

Both are good (not great), but spocks beard is definitely more consistent withe their music

Although the Glass Hammer sound appeals to me, I have not heard a whole lot of their music (mostly early releases) that really grabbed me. Spock's Beard, on the other hand, I find consistently good, so SB it is.

If it was Neal Morse v Glass Hammer then I would vote Morse.
Spocks beard are just okay to me. Have some great moments but I struggle to really enjoy their music.
Glass Hammer on the other hand have made a trio of symphonic keyboard based prog albums that are among my favourites (Chronomotree, Lex Rex and Shadowlands). Their DVD's (Lex Live and Live at Belmont) are also way more fun than the one Spocks Beard DVD I have. Unfortunately GH's latest IF is not so much to my liking but they still get my vote for giving me so much more enjoyment than SB.

I say Spock's Beard strictly because their music is good. The vocals, however, do not appeal to me.

I've been listening to Glass Hammer a lot more lately - just bought If and Culture of Ascent and love them both - but I think I still prefer Spock's Beard. As Epignosis mentioned, their music is just more consistent than GH, but I really like both bands. Another vote for SB.

Spock's Beard. Somehow a lot of Glass Hammer's work does not appeal to me.

Spock's Beard by a lot. Glass Hammer are technically excellent, but their music does little for me. The Beard, even with a few hiccups after Neal Morse left, have produced better music. |

Spock's Beard only has one 5 star album for me, while Glass Hammer has two. However, the "weaker" material from SB is generally consistent in the 4 star area, while GH has quite a few in the 2-3 star range. I'll vote SB on consistency and on the majesty that is V, but I encourage folks to check out Shadowlands and Culture of Ascent.
