I agree with Gorp. DT is for sure on of the most complex bands ever.
Not sure if it's the most complex band in the world though, if any band can have that status.

I Have live at budokan, and i couldn't belive what i was seeing, but i've been even more impressed when i saw videos from Mahavishnu Orchestra and i realized Billy Cobham is not a human being, and the whole band plays almost inhuman. Also the video of Anglagärd at the progfest in 1994( i think) was awesome, they play Hostsejd soooooooooooo goooood.
But Live At Budokan proves everybody that DT has many of the most skilled musicians ever.

Can someone give me an example of a VDGG song that is extremely complex? Because I don't really hear as much complexity in their music as people are saying. Yes, they have a heavy dose of weird time signatures but that alone doesn't make a band extremely complex (You can't say the riff from Man-Erg is complex, for example). Of course I'm not a real musician, so I could be completely wrong.
(Of course, this doesn't mean they aren't the greatest band of all time )

If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.

I think that Spastic Ink is the most complex progressive band out there...however, they are just technical metal but they are progressive...I don't know...do technical progressive metal bands count here? if not then Shadow Gallery is a pretty complex band...even moreso then Dream Theater...Watchtower are pretty complex...Spiral Architect...I guess it would also be about how you would define complex...complexity in the concetual area or in the musicianship area?

OPETH!!!!!!!!!!
Every album these guys put out is different than their last and each album combines such great textures and experimentations. Anybody that can go from a full-on death metal assault to crystal clear singing, beautiful symphonic keyboards, and acoustic guitars with a click are definitely complex
