FZ's "Weasels..." but VDGG's and Floyd's efforts are close.

I voted Third.
My top 10 prog albums from this year would look something like this:
1. Third
2. Trespass
3. Atom Heart Mother
4. H To He Who Am The Only One
5. In The Wake Of Poseidon
6. Weasels Ripped My Flesh
7. John Barleycorn Must Die
8. Yeti
9. Deep Purple In Rock (if that's actually a prog album)
10. ELP
However, the two last ones could easily have been exchanged for If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You and Lizard.

great album.. and wonder who seriously considers Trepass the best album of 1970 hahah
ELP - ELP hands down... best debut album in prog...
from the opeing neo-classical salvo to the famous moog solo...

This thread must've been posted while I was away... So many fantastic albums (quite a few of my 5-starred favs too), but my vote also went to the wonderful, self-titled ELP debut. It can boast of one of the best opening tracks ever, the immensely powerful, Hammond-driven "The Barbarian" , as well as the lovely, wistful "Take a Pebble". Other than that, out of this list I'd also mention Caravan's impossibly long-titled second album,Soft Machine's "Third", High Tide's self-titled second album, and Traffic's marvellous "John Barleycorn..". And of course I agree 100% on the monumental "In Rock"...

I don't know, I'm between Trespass and Atom Heart Mother. I think I'll go with Trespass, as I listen to it more often. I love Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast though, at least partially due to the name of the song.

Most of the rest I honestly cant say ive listened to. So those are my top, and only two of 1970.

Another good list. "H to He" just barely edges out the other contenders. Only because I happen to be listening to that more right now. "Magma (Kobaïa)" is right behind, with "John Barleycorn Must Die" in third.

Its
hard yes, but I'm currently obsessed with Magmas debut. Must have
played it ca. 25-30 times the last three or four months. That's almost
a full working week! My top three of this year are in my alltime top 20.

    that's 5 clappies for you....
that album has worked it's way into my top 10 alltime fav prog ablums.. love it ..love it ....love it....

Actually I must say I should re-listen to that one because most us Kobaians point to MDK, 1001 or Kontarkhosz |
just noticed this Hugues... well on re-listen.. .what sayeth thee....
Kohntarkhosz was the the longest time my favorite Magma album and
still love it however .... Kobaia has bushwacked it so to speak
hahahha. Then again, what do I konw, I've never been
inducted into the elite fraternal order of Kobaians either... I always
figured it was because I was a bit too... odd.. too be
Kobaian.. Oh well... let me know what a fresh listen did for you...
