mainly something that sounds like Dream Theater's I&W and Symphony X's Paradise Lost.  The more technical, the better.

thanks :D

Try Fates Warnings "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray".  It even has Kevin Moore on it.

Lots of bands I can recommend from this subgenre. Try Mindwarp Chamber - Delusional reality - 2008. To me was a real pleasent surprise, excellent album or Myrath - Hope - 2007 band from Tunisia thay sound very similar to Symphony X.  Try also the band from my avatar Pagan's Mind - Celestial entrance from 2002 is a masterpiece of prog metal , recommended.Thumbs Up

Pagan's Mind has some great prog metal in that type of style. Fate's Warning is excellent as well.

Myrath and their album "Hope" is an EXCELLENT suggestion.

Also check out these bands:

Dominici
Empyrios
Astra
Twinspirits
Anubis Gate
Darkwater
Andromeda
Wastefall
Thought Chamber
Spheric Universe Experience
Progressivexperience
Nova Art
Mind Key
IV Luna
Hourglass
Fragile Vastness
Dynamic Lights

I tried to avoid recommending better known bands like Vanden Plas,Shadow Gallery and so on because the bands I recommended aren't very well known but are excellent and really deserve some more exposure.

It is a shame Wastefall doesn't get more exposure, they're such a great band..
