For me personally, Crest of a Knave, it is the first Jethro Tull Album I ever listened to, and I loved it. Got me hooked on JT immediately.

obscured by clouds is my first choice because realy underappreciated by the critics ,here in france , octave comes just after, about this last one , i think wrapped up with a phil travers artwork cover would have helped it to be more appreciated

Crest of A Knave much maligned because it won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal album in 1989 when Metallica was expected to win.

But IMHO Crest of a Knave is a brilliant album and thoroughly deserved the Grammy. So there!

My vote goes to Marillion. The title track is my second fave Marillion-song (after "Neverland").

Absolutely has to be Obscured By Clouds.  I remember buying the album back in the late 90's and popping it into my CD player, not expecting much.  I played it...I played it again...and again...and again.  Vital in helping me to appreciate instrumentals, and Free Four is probably my favorite piece of cynical iconoclastic upbeat death-musing.  Really Roger at his best.

I think the OP meant very good/great albums which did not get the attention or appreciation they deserved. On that basis, your post clearly agrees with him.

I'm not so sure about the underappreciation thing, but I am sure that Magnification is a great album, and that Crest of a Knave is a darn good one.

Obscured By Clouds is also a good (big three star) album in my book. Voted for it, though I must admit I'm a GG junkie that doesn't own the Missing Piece. In a way this does homage to the album.

There are some very good albums on that list, but I will plump for Afraid of Sunlight. At the time of release, Q magazine stated that "had it been released by any other band than Marillion, it would be an international smash it", meaning, of course, that the brand name was tainted, rather than the music. It contains some of the strongest material the band ever recorded, and there is barely a weak moment on it.

Obscured By Clouds might be my favorite Pink Floyd album.
