I'd have to say older, though I'll listen to some new prog every now and then. While I don't have the experience of living through those years I am very glad I discovered the music produced during that era.

1970 - 1976 or so..

There is some excellent modern progressive music; Radiohead, Sigor Ros, Porcupine Tree et al but generally, and boring as it may seem to some on here, my preference is what I consider to be the golden era of prog rock in the early 70's.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

There are tons of great, new prog bands out there now that I enjoy as much as the classics. So I'd say I like modern prog as much as the classic stuff. However, when it comes to modern prog, I've been moving away from the 70s-inspired symph bands (eg Spock's Beard, Transatlantic) towards more experimental bands like Chrome Hoof and secret Chiefs 3. I still like a lot of the retro stuff, but I'm finding more and more unique modern music to listen to.

I was around in 1969, too.  Four years old, mind you.  Classic prog had been well under way when I got completely on board.  As much as I enjoyed the past I prefer to experience the present.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I was around in 1969 and witnessed the explosion that was ignited by Woodstock (among other factors) and aside for a brief period in the 80s, Prog has never let me down. In fact, i believe 2013 was perhaps the best year EVER, certainly in terms of the number of quality releases! Unbelievable! and very proud......Embarrassed
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I tend to be more into 70's, 80's as most of my music is on vinyl but honestly, as long as it catches my ear it really doesn't matter what decade its from.

70's prog has the classics, but after the 70's: that's where the journey really begins.
I've created an atmosphere where I'm friend first, boss second. Probably entertainer third.

^ that's a great attitude to have. Music will certainly love you back.
It's good to have that 'no stone left unturned attitude' regardless of age.
You'll Prog it well for many years to Come. ;)

A few days ago, I reached an epiphany - I love music! Regardless of time period or genre, I simply love music. The best music has happened, is happening, and hasn't happened yet.

It's so difficult to choose one period... Surely old prog fixed bases for all future works, but anyhow many of new prog music is wonderful (Phideaux, The Dear Hunter, Il Tempio Delle Clessidre, ecc...) although I love the golden age of Prog.
Love Prog Rock...

just quite disappointed on newer prog, today's general music taste doesn't give space for complexity, in the case of newer prog the repetitive "long cliches" is omnipresent in the majority of them, much less suggestive than the old classic ones. However, thanks to this site, after digging a lot, I've found some good exceptions. By the way something like that has occurred to me with modern Rock, which I feel sometimes excessively aggressive and noisy, maybe because I never enjoyed bands like Motor Head for instance.  Anyway, finally I'm getting convinced to recall my Classical Music listening time, no doubt there's plenty of majestic pieces just waiting for me to know them... It would be GREAT if there were sites like this dedicated to that genre...

I've got to clarify that I'm still proving to discover newer prog that I'm enjoying, I commited a generalization here. By the way, I think I'm not the appropriate person to explain why I'm not enjoying some musics, I'm not a musician and not even an expert in this matter.

Beautiful photo, what is it ??

Thank you... I'm willing to know this band as soon as I can. Before that album you mentioned above, Museo Rosenbach had recorded also "Live 72", and "Rare & Unreleased"(exclusive distribution for Japan), regarding these album covers the surrealist photo from the album "Zarathustra" is a PLUS.
