Here is hoping that we will indeed have a season this year!

Anyway, the draft is coming up tomorrow so this is a good time to start the thread. Any predictions/wishlists for your favorite team? Any offseason news worth talking about?

And of course...go big blue!! (Although I fully expect another subpar season from them)

New Orleans Saints win the NFC title, not sure right now who is the AFC title holder, Brees has another MVP caliber season.
My wish??? That somehow Saints work a trade to get Burreaux......Give Bengals both Kamara and Taysom Hill.

Hi,

I'm thinking that a lot of folks are going to bet on Gronk and Brady! If the season ever gets off!

"Awhile" was awhile ago, Gronk has been partying for the past 2yrs in Florida. He joined the team because its close to his house and he needs more money for booze and snacks.

You think he's gonna play 16 games??

No surprise with Burreaux #1 pick.......Was thinking MIA was not gonna take Tua with his injury issues and all, I really think Herbert is a better QB and risk than Tua.

Only one season out for Gronk. But yes...there are questions. Will father time catch up with brady? Will gronk stay healthy? Will the defense not be the sieve it was early on the year? Who will run the ball?

Also, I'm not saying I believe it, I"m just saying that's why people are jumping on the bandwagon. That said, Given the extended playoffs now (DeadDeadDead) I would be surprised if they didn't make the postseason.

I would have been happy with a tackle or Simmons, so I think the Giants did as well as they could. Hopefully they chose the right one as they had their pick of the litter.

Hi,

Hmmmm ... it's a strange thing, wondering how some QB's will do in the NFL, provided they have the right folks helping them ... which usually is not the case, and most of these end up in the scrap heal after 5 years doing local television sports!

I'm not sure that the guy from Alabama will be that good ... I don't think he realizes how much better the folks around him made the whole thing, and the same goes for LSU, however I think that the team that picked him might work him out a little more and not try to push things.

As for the kid from Oregon ... most Oregon QB's have done well, with the exception of one that somehow bombed, but he was on a couple of really bad teams ... and no one on this earth can ever do well in those teams! And specially when the next year's coach is gonna change everything!

Well essentially what changed LSU's course was going to a spread offense with 5-wide and letting Burrow loose, most NCAA offenses would have struggled with that NFL type strategy but they embraced it with the help of the Saints. So to me Burrow blossomed in that big change and he took it to the next level in NCAA and especially in the SEC clearly the toughest most competitive football conference.
So he is already very familiar with what to do in the NFL, Tua also but man those injuries are going to be tough, as Mel Kipper pointed out....the injuries are real, they exist and will only get worse with hits from 260-300lb def ends and linemen.
I'm hoping the Oregon QB does well, I like that kid.

Overall, have to give the gmen a C+...no defensive ends nor wide receivers but plenty of linebackers and two offensive linemen (plus a highly regarded safety). Hopefully some of these linebackers pan out, but even then the offense might have to score 35+ a game to win.

Looks like Saints gonna sign JWinston to 1yr deal as backup QB since Brady pushed him out, not sure how I feel about that right now as Winston is not very accurate and a lot of turnovers. Clearly an insurance plan in case Brees goes down again with an injury, so unless that happens not sure Winston will see many snaps.

But a better team, coaches, players can help you be a better player.....We'll see.

^ I think it's a good move. For backup QBs hard to find a good option (although Dalton was just released today). He has the talent, it just comes in spurts. Maybe his lasik eye surgery will help too. Worth the flyer they took on him, IMO.

Shannon Sharpe says Drew Brees should retire: 'I will never respect the man'

What a doosh........Has Sharpe EVER said this about anyone else that actually deserved it?? I'm sure Brees will be cryin himself to sleep knowing Mr Yapmouth doesn't respect him.

I hardly think these two players, and their actions, are on even ground let alone comparable. One gave his life for his country.....

definitely not the same.. but I'd very much comparable and on even ground. Ask yourself..  I'll give you credit for knowing, even if not through personal experience,  what these answers are.

what is root of .. the essence of ...service.....serving one's country

and again what is the essence of sacrifice in terms of serving one's country.

answer those honestly and see the two cases are not far off at all.

Thousands, millions of people give their time and effort for serving their country and community in a very non committal manner, meaning its not life altering.
Kap has been whining about getting a job in the NFL that pays him millions, if he feels that strongly then he can make same decision and leave the NFL for good and dedicate his life to what he believes in and make the change....Compared to the life decision that Pat Tillman made for what he believes in, they are far off and nowhere close to even ground, answer that honestly.

Hi,

Easy one for me!

"Service" according to my mom, meant that you studied Portuguese and you did more for the memory and study of the GOD in your house! In this case a Literary idea with some artistic merit, however, the idea was to promote the Portuguese language and its history in literature ... not even the arts!

(Remember that in every house and country there is a GOD and the children only go to fight all battles and wars for it!!!!!!!! Nothing else!)

There was no "sacrifice" needed ... for me, mom pretty much said that she would pay for my University education if I switched to Portuguese. And she hated many film and theater folks (which she knew I was studying!), whom she thought were "filthy" (dad had met many of them and translated others) ... which was not true, but for her Dali and Bunuel was all of them ... and she despised them, despite my dad even writing an one act play to satirize mom and her "pack of hens" ideals of morality! It had a similar feel to the opening of INTERVISTA (Fellini) if you have not seen it, you must!!!!!

But we were, then, a part of a fascist government, and I think that my parents wanted out as soon as possible, thus the meaning of service in Portugal in those days, meant that you were sent to Angola or Mozambique! (Now you know why AD2's song about Mozambique is so valuable for me! Exactly what the foreigners did in Africa!). You're job would be ... to keep the "natives" in line! Poor, no food, and in their camps!

Hi,

I think that for Brees this was just an errant pass ... it happens in every game, and sometimes it ends up in an interception. And it's not like Drew never threw a pass to a black receiver! Someone should have called SS's bluff and buried him and his comments!

Good question......It seems its more a black and white situation, I think it will be cancelled. The NFL can't survive if players start to elect to not play, unlike the MLB that can survive if players don't play.

For example if Mahomes, Brees and the like elect to sit out, what now?? The NFL does not have a minor league system to fall back on.

But to answer your question........ <10%

Well this thing is kicking off tonight...so I need to make my postseaon predictions. God only knows what we will get this year, so I feel completely jusified when I completely sh*t the bed.

AFC:

Chiefs
Steelers
Colts
Patriots
Raiders
Texans
Ravens

NFC:

Saints
Seahawks
Cowboys
Packers
Buccaneers
Falcons
Rams

For AFC that is a very safe bet, no diaper needed. Watching Mahomey is a treat, still very young and with time will gain accuracy. But man I am so lovin Edwards-Helaire, he was a brutal runner last year for LSU and now taking it to the NFL, happy for him!

Clearly I see the Saints at the top, we'll see after this weekend. Seahawks I struggle with at #2, I'm actually liking GreenBay as #2.....I think Rodgers will have great year. I think Cowboys will krapt the bed this year.

I couldn't go straight with these things. Part of my doesn't think the cowboys will finish that high either (that defense I cant see being better than average), but I figured some regression for the Pack (as they seem like they will have the same problems as last year) will happen. The seahawks finsihing that high is completely dependent on the coaching staff allowing Wilson to own the team, which I hope will finally happen.

Also after tonight, I less confident about my texans pick. Tongue

I'll be watching the Pats, but man I would struggle that high for them.....You think Cam will come thru enough to get them there?? Or is that a pick based on the coaching staff? I think Belichick is a genius......Did you forget about the 49ers???Shocked

Combination of Belichick & the weakness of the divvision. Could it be the bills? Sure...but I won't predict that. And negative. Superbowl hangover baby. Also, I didn't think they were a 13-3 roster last year, so I expect some natural regression.

Hi,

KC didn't look bad, but either their defense has to improve 10% or Watson showed a really good effort.

As for NE, I'm not sure that Brady was the difference between 8-8 and 12-4 ... and that means that I think NE will be 7-9, 8-8 or there so ... and I think that's good ... gives other teams a chance to get somewhere ... which is good for all of us. I'm not sure that a coach (alone) is worth 4 games, or that a quarterback alone is worth 4 games ... all it takes is one injury and the team is ready for 8 to 10 losses! Credit to Brady for not getting a major hurt! But I think that coach listened to him about the front line and kept it in as good a shape as possible to help his QB.

THAT, is rare in most coaches ... who think their "system" is better than any individual, which you and I know is the greatest load of steamed dried heap we ever heard!

NO vs TB, was closer than it showed......Meaning take away a lot of the dumb penalties and TB is in the game, eliminate the Brady pick-6, even closer.
Clearly Brees was the better QB that game, props to TB defensive line putting a lot of pressure on him. What the heck is wrong with Fournette???

Hi,

Bad or Worst 0-2 Teams in 2020?

Texans
Panthers
Broncos
Eagles
Jets
Dolphins
Vikings
Lions
Falcons
Giants
Bengals

... and that kid in Cincy? ... wow!!!

Let's see ... that GM in Denver needs to retire. The Eagles need some Cough syrup, or at least DayQuil. The Lions can run well ... but can't stop any squirrels. The Giants will be the giants again! The Dolphins are probably the laughing stock of something ... not sure what!

Jets have to be the worst.

NFC West looks brutal already, three teams 2-0, 49ers 1-1, no teams below 500. NFC Least has zero teams over 500.

Steelers / Ravens looks like it's going to be a fight all season.

Go Seahawks!

Seahawks looking pretty powerful.....on offense. The D still allowed 55 points in two game. The Falcons are terrible and the Pats should be in the playoffs. Rams destroyed the Eagles pretty much, so I'm kinda liking the Rams in the west, but right now only ever so slightly over the Hawks.

Was really hoping Herbert was gonna pull out that win against KC, but he had too many rookie mistakes and really they were terrible decisions on his part.

Expecting Saints to win tonight but also expect Raiders D to punish them...

The Lions are the first team in history to lose 4 consecutive games in which they led by double digits.  Who knew there was anything new in the suck department that the Lions hadn't done before?

To put things in horrid perspective, Matt Patricia now has a worse coaching record (9-24-1) than Rod Marinelli (10-24). And Rod Marinelli had an 0-16 year. I watched the Green Bay and it was another monumental collapse. Dumb penalties, dumb mistakes, dumb coaching.

After a lifetime of heartbreak, anger and frustration, I pretty much quit watching them a few years ago.  I still get updates on scores and find humor in reading the game lowlights afterwards to see how they found new and inventive ways to lose, but I can only watch them in small doses.  Yesterday I saw that they were winning 14 to 3 in the first half which surprised me.  I turned the game on about 1/2 hour later and it was the half and I saw that they were losing 17 to 14.  I left the room and was doing other things and when I flipped the game back on I saw that they were losing 31 to 14.  That was pretty much the end of what little interest I had.  I hate being a bandwagon fan, but until they give me a reason to be something other than that it is probably for the better.

Jets have to be the worst.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. When you look at that list, most of those teams have at least one or two bright spots (even the rebuilding Panthers have Run CMC). The Jets? Ugh. I mean, I still think Bell can be productive, if he is on the right team with a coaching staff that believes in him. And the safety Maye is pretty good. But outside of that...I see no proven commodities I'd want on my team. The dolphins are a close second, but they also aren't really playing for 2020 success.

I would also say Gase is the worst head coach in the league, although Patricia gives him a run for his money.

If the Bills can play the dolphins/jets every week, the decision would be easy. But eventually they will play a real team. Gotta ride with the best in the business atm, IMO.

You're probably wise to have distanced yourself from them.  The horrors of the last twenty seasons have made me yearn for the glory days of Wayne Fontes, 9-7 records, and sporadic playoff appearances.

Part of it for last night......but they are off big time. This week is critical to them getting back on track with GB next Sunday.
Honestly its just what happens when you have no practice games to work out the kinks....Raider O looked pretty good considering.

It's a good thing people aren;t allowed in the Georgia dome.
