Yeah, but it won't be for long. Besides, we all know CTTE is the best prog album of all time!

While I reckon WYWH is 'Floyds best work, it comes nowhere near SEBTP!

Selling England is miles upon miles in front of Wish You Were Here, probably the most overrated album in the top ten. Animals is ways better, I've always considered Wish You Were Here to be extremely weak for an album of that stature. Selling England on the other hand is excellent and I enjoy listening to it a lot.

On SELLING ENGLAND production is much better, all the musicians play better, and PG sings better. And oh, it's also got better tunes than FOXTROT!

FOXTROT's strongest points, in my view, are the triumphant climax of "Supper's Ready", which Genesis never equalled, and the dark mood of menace, so typical of early Genesis, which disappeared after this album.

As much as I love WYWH, SEBTP would be my desert island choice.

No,  I'd rather see Zeuhl albums take the top two spots (or many other albums).

When you say better, do you mean better for me (as in subjective response), or an objective response? Or both?

Love Wish You Were Here and at least half of SEbtP.  As better is largely in the ear of the behearer (there are criteria one can follow to judge), I can't really objectively say.  I do find Wish You Were Here much more consistent.

Wish You Were Here is spacial perfection, if space is what you want. Selling England By The Pound is great also, but isn't quite the epitome of it's genre, while Wish You Were Here is.

I don't want it to be #2, but I like it more than SEBTP, which I think is overrated. I much prefer Foxtrot and The Lamb both of which I think would be worthy to be #2. But anyway, WYWH.

Selling England is better than Wish you were here and Close to the Edge, but Foxtrot is better than Selling England by the Pound, but my top 10 differs from this site's.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond is one of the best songs I ever heard, probably in my top 5 or even top 3 of favourite songs, but I think the rest of WYWH is not as good. I think Dark Side Of The Moon had a better balance.

Genesis' Selling England is an album where I think there are no weak songs. Not to everybody's taste (in particular I Know What I Like and More Fool Me) but for me, musically, Selling England is a very even album, with no fillers, and with the two best tracks they ever made, Firth Of Fifth and Cinema Show.

So I choose Selling England.

Wish You Were Here !
SEBTP have to many boring moments for it to be the best or even in the top 10 prog albums imo, sure its a good albums but far from my fav genesis or anything, the lamb is far and away much beter and the best genesis album.

There are more songs I don't like on SEBTP (I Know What I Like, More Fool Me, and the highly overrated The Battle of Epping Forest) than on WYWH, so I vote WYWH.

I agreeClap I recently saw the Musical Box and The Battle of Epping Forest killed the show.

BTW, glad to see WYWH won this poll.

SEBTP because of Dancing With...., Firth of Fifth and Cinema Show, whereas WYWH can only put up Shine on you Crazy Diamond...therefore SEBTP (note both are not as good as CTTE)...

Both great albums, a tough choice, but if I could pick only one it would have to be Selling England by the Pound - my favourite Genesis album, some great tracks; WYWH is great as well but doesn't have the same high points for me, and isn't my favourite Floyd album (that's Animals)

Funnily enough, I've just finished playing 'Selling England' and, of course, I voted for that. It's not my favourite Genesis album, in fact it doesn't make my top three, but I prefer it to WYWH.

When 'Wish' was released, I, and other Floyd fans I knew, were quite disappointed in it. Over the years I have grown to like it more, and it's probably my number three Floyd album now, behind 'Meddle' and 'Dark Side', but it's not in my top twenty albums.

Mind you, 'Close To The Edge' isn't in my top four Yes albums either! Wink It comes in fifth, behind 'TFTO', 'Fragile', 'Relayer' & GFTO'. It's a decent album nevertheless.

So?  I struggle to see your point.  SEBTP is number one and where it should be.  Wish You Were Here is lucky to be number three, as great as it is.  But, when albums are that high does it really matter what its exact place is?
PS The progarchives list doesnt mean crap.  So, I wouldn't focus on changing it because I, for one, won't be told what albums are beter than others by a website, no offense, progarchives.
PPS I do love the constant battle between SEBTP and CTTE.

A close call for Wywh in my opinion. I don't think Selling England is a masterpiece, because it has a couple of flawed tracks. Wywh is closer to perfection, again, imho.

I think both Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme > Selling England, and i think Animals > Wywh.

This whole voting thing is idiotic, but what the hell, I like to play idiotic games sometimes myself Smile. WYWH wins only because (1) it  captivates the listener from beginning to end, without let up. You leave the LP altered, somber, in awe of the magic it has worked on you. "Welcome to the Machine;" well, what can I say, if any song has the power to mesmerize and horrify, it is that one.

SEBTP, of course it's a great album, but it's a collection of music, composed separatly and not with a unified vision. Epping Forest, I know its a fun song an all, but it de-engergizes the ablum length experience a bit.

Terror trumps forest songs, at least to my mind.
