Iona. Hereafter it becomes difficult, but Pentangle and Horslips are worth mentioning.

I love a lot of these, but I'm definitely not a fan of Mostly autumn, Karnataka, Iona and Blackmore's Night.
.... and I don't really find Decemberist very folk prog, but more a sort of folky alt-rock or indie-rock band.
I'd choose my preferred ones between Spirogyra, Pentangle, Conus, Gryphon, Jaivas, JDDG and the early strawbs (Hooper-Hudson-Ford era)... I guess pentangle takes it.

Most of my favourite bands are in there!
I love Strawbs, Gryphon, Iona, Pentangle, Blackmore's Night, but I am completely in love with the music of Mostly Autumn and Horslips.
Horslips did two of the greatest albums of all time - The Tain and The Book of Invasions; anyone who hasn't heard these really should. They also did several other great albums, including a fabulous live one and a reworking of their greatest songs.
Mostly Autumn did two fabulous masterpieces - The Spirit of Autumn Past and The Last Bright Light - as well as many other very good albums.
But MA just get my vote because Horslips did a couple of true turkeys (The Unfortunate Cup of Tea and Short Stories, Tall Tales) in amongst the great stuff.

Because The Incredible String Band is not an option I'll have to choose between Horslips, Gryphon and Strawbs.
And Strawbs gets my vote, they have so many fantastic albums ...

That´s quite meaningless. How relationship is between these two bands? What do you actually consider Dead Can Dance for?
And finally: Who´s that mysterious girl in your avatar and signature photos?

Comus may have put out the best prog folk album I've ever heard but I voted for the Decemberists, mostly because I've been listening to them since the beginning and am enjoying watching them evolve and grow as the band matures. Faun Fables is another guilty pleasure.
Strawbs are high on the list for a large body of work that stands the test of time. Carol of Harvest had only one album in their prime but it's a must-have for any prog folker. Actuala, Sedmina, In the Labyrinth, Congreso, Errobi, Sad Minstrel, the Third Estate and Wovenhand all deserve a mention as well. But the one I really can't believe you left out is Pearls Before Swine. I might have voted for them over the Decemberists.

Oh so true!
... and Faun Fables is an intersting mention. I suppose if one manages to get past those vocals, they might find a nice little band. I failed miserably at doing that. Anyway, my vote goes to Spirogyra, the other prog/acid folk giants .

Strawbs are one of the only groups on the list to rival Tull for durability. Plus they had a long string of great albums. After that, probably Horslips, with Pentangle not far behind. Among newer groups, Mostly Autumn

Horslips because I really haven't listened to a lot of other prog/folk groups. In fact, I've never heard of most of the names on this list.

some other bands to consider:
Amazing Blondel - more Elizabethan folk than progressive, but produced some quite lovely albums in the early 70s. Recent compilations of previously unheard tracks show the degree of their inspiration
Dan Ar Braz, Alan Stivell, and Tri Yann - 3 legends from Brittany. Sophisticated folk with many progressive aspects
Decameron - prog folk rock in the vein of Strawbs but with their own sound
Eden - the German group with one CLASSIC album Erwartung. Would also appeal to symph fans
Itoiz - Basque group whose first 2 albums are simply essential
Pererin - Welsh group similar to Scotland's Runrig but more progressive and they sing in Welsh only. First 2 albums essential
red Jasper - British group from early 90s mixing neo with folk. If you like Tull, you might want to start with Horslipsd and these guys for your next prog folk excursions. Recommended: Midsummer Night's Dream and Winter Tale
I think the English group Grace is under neo prog but I recommend the album "Pulling Strings and Shiny Things". Neo meets English folk but less Tull like

I guess I have to choose Spirogyra for having made two amazing albums over Comus for having only one.

Although there are many good bands here (and I have become something of a Decemberists fanatic in the past year or two), I voted for Comus because, quite frankly, they practically invented the genre, and there would be very little prog-folk without their influence. Peace.

I'm between Jan Dukes de Grey, Spirogyra and Comus right now...that being said, I'd like to listen to some Hoelderlin before casting my vote. They've been on my list for a while.

I love Strawbs and Horslips.
But my vote goes to Gryphon. They're one of my fab 4 top favourite bands ever (the others are Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant and Renaissance), I have personally met the members of the band and I made a cartoon portrait of them. I was a little boy when I came across Gryphon's stuff and I got stuck.
