4 stars Another brilliant sunshine has come in the beginning of 2022. A new British trio project GENIE CRIES were founded in 2021 by a Neo-Prog veteran guitarist Ian GORDON (guitars, vocals) and his brothers Neil (keyboards) and Gary (bass). Their debut full-length album entitled "The Limits Of Deviation" veiled in a suggestive sleeve was released in January 2022. Thanks to Ian's email, I could come across such a fascinating creation soon after the release. Quite tight rhythmic bases, slightly complicated but pop / catchy-flavoured melody lines, sharp-edged sound lyricism ... all essence should be immersive for every Neo-Prog or Crossover Prog fan. The three Gordon brothers make a perfect pair and get harmonized in a flawless manner all over the opus. Guess the title "The Limits Of Deviation" would say the audience cannot find 'deviation' easily on their performance in this album. Full of strong confidence must be heard in every single track and encourage us under such a tough Omicron pandemic situation, let me say.

The first shot "Stand Your Ground" filled with uptempo and solid rock tension is pretty cool. Rigidly with complicated rhythmic footprints and potent melody lines, energetic sound magma should be coming swiftly just like a volcanic eruption. On the other hand, "Take The Time" has a pop-fan-friendly flowery aroma deeply in it. Not so complicated but goodly acceptable. In "Seven Boats", we are relaxed by pleasant easygoing atmosphere, but simultaneously knocked massively by their excellent instrumental technique. In the longest masterpiece in the album "Palace In The Sky" Ian's edgy voices and backing chorus are well matured and unificated. Quite delightful and favourable melodic movements catch our heart strictly. The battles of guitars and keyboards in the latter part solidify the song clearly and stimulate our inner mind. In addition the last soft, smooth attachment is also charming. The last "Landslide" is one of the most stabilized and clear-cut solutions for the audience troubled and worried by dark, depressive current circumstances.

Why can't we get good spirits from this wonderful creation? Get better and more active by listening to such a good prescription.
