Mister Kite biography
This five-piece Metal band from the south of Sweden, formed in 1999, feature a variety of talents: vocalist Alf Wemmenling has sung everything from Church duets with his father to heavy metal stuff. Drummer Mats Bergentz (ex-SILVER MOUNTAIN), one of the founding members of the band, is influenced by Frank Zappa, Ian Paice (DEEP PURPLE) and Phil Lynott (THIN LIZZY). Bass player Anton Johansson started out playing the piano then switched to guitar and finally ended up playing bass. Guitarist Magnus Kristensson (ex-S.P.O.C.K.) started out playing drums but quickly switched to guitars. Finally, keyboard player Tomas Djurfeldt also plays the guitar whilst his main instrument is the bass guitar.

It's hard to describe the style of MISTER KITE, a band one could easily mistake for an American band, what with Kristensson's highly bluesy guitar play - perhaps it's safe to say they sound a bit like THRESHOLD with hints of QUEENSRYCHE. Both of their albums "All in Time" and "Box of Fear" display the most modern-edge sound a band can have while incorporating the classic sound of old-fashioned Heavy Metal. Wemmenlind's forceful, bluesy and angst ridden vocals add real bite to the monstrously heavy guitar attacks of both Kristensson and Djurfeldt, yet their music still manages to be melodic. Lots of positive energy, anthemic pieces, powerful back-up vocals (provided by all musicians) and an impressive drum production make their albums a lot of fun.

Recommended if you're in the mood for some tasteful melodic prog metal with intelligent lyrics. Note: this band is not to be confused with another MISTER KITE, an Indie/Rock outfit from Salisbury, U.K.

2 stars 2.5 really

Box of fear relased two years later in 2004 at same Lion Music is a little diffrent, musicaly speaking, now the music is much more towards moder hard rock, again not far from Motley Crue and not a single moments remind me that this is a progressive metal band. If the previous album had some good moments who alternates with some very good ones, here the good ones alternates with boring and totaly unintristing on every pieces. The music is again energic, with uptempo moments, but the ideas overall are simply a disaster, a forgetable release IMO. Every piece is boring with modern metal touch, a thing that I don't like, for ex Evil Bob, absolut a total disaster. This album sounds if is made for teenagers, who wants almost simple music with some metal arrangements here and there. I want more complicated music, and this album definetly won't give such moments, weaker the first one and almost bad in places. 2-2.5 stars, even for some listners might be intrsting, to me is a collectors item, not band but falls to attract me in every way.

Mister Kite is a total unknown band from Sweden who combine in places progressive metal with hard rock and melodic power metal. They release so far two albums, this is the first one named All the time, issued at Lion Music in 2002. At first listning I was struck about the musiciaship, how easy these guys plays, but also the music is very much towards hard rock not far from , american bands from late'80's. It's obvious, because in the linear nots of the CD the musicians tanks for inspiration amomg others to Peter Gabriel and Motley Crue ( from where they took a lot), this album is almost similar in every pieces with the americans. So, the music is well composed, very uptempo with lots of great riifs, energic druming and excellent vocal parts, Alf Wemmenling has a powerfull voice just perfect for this music. The main problem is that this album is to linear, to much the same on every piece, was needed much more diverse arrangements. The rythmyc section is awesome, from the first piece All In Time - Mister Kite kick major ass, heavy riffs but with an american sound overall, as I said not far from Motley Crue in the end. The keybords are sporadic, only on The Diary Of A Stranger - divided in 3 parts has a more important role and even some solo. So, a good album, the best from the two released by the band, the next one is weaker and falls in another category. 3 stars, in some mparts more like 3.5, decent to great in places, but not really something very strong or close to something essential, still enjoyble. For fans who like T.O.C, and bands with more groove in the music with a moder touch

Mister Kite Progressive Metal

4 stars First, i heard Mister Kite's "All in Time" few days ago on a internet radio station. What i did? I fell in love in this song. It's not about the talent or great progressive riff attack. That's the energy that was running from blood of those guys. When i heard the whole album i wasn't dissapointed. It's a great piece of music for prog fans and not just them. The music played by Mister Kite is a complete mix of Hard Rock and Progressive Metal, that gives new breath to progmusic. That album is not really popular, and i don't really know why. When i tried to find Mister Kite's music in Poland, all i saw was the smiling faces... Maybe there's no place for progressive music in future world? I hope not... Anyway, "All in Time" should find place in your cd collection... DarknessLord
