4 stars In addition to be part of the first release from SOFTWARE composed of three words instead of two, "Past-Present-Future Volume II" is the second serie of best of compilations by the German duo. More interesting than Volume I, it simply offers some of the best moments from the electronic-robotic period of the band. The disc features also one unreleased track that can be cannot be found anywhere else, "Love Potion of Artificial Life", a short slow ambient atmospheric piece, nonetheless not their most interesting work.

The rest of the record contains great passages from "Beam-Scape", "Phancyful-Fire", "Electronic Universe Part I" and "Syn-Code". The choice of the tunes is quite pertinent. The electrifying "Add Space to Time" and the hypnotic "Sunny ROM-Rise" transports you inside a computer, like you're trying to escape from a numeric maze against viruses and programs! The calm comes back with the smoothly sequenced "Moonly Twigs" and the beautiful PINK FLOYD-esque "Fencing Clouds". "Syn-Code-Power-Part" is the odd track in this disc as far as it is very energetic and features a saxophone solo. The record concludes with the enchantment of "Timberlake Wave Reflections" and "Night Light", electronic pieces in the vein of Klaus Schulze's "Audentity".

"Past-Present-Future Volume II" gathers great moments from the SOFTWARE's first era, their best. Recommended to discover the band's music and to ambient electronica fans!
