Review by Conor Fynes
PROG REVIEWER
4 stars 'Foxey Lady' - Jimi Hendrix (Single)

A fairly simple tune structurally, Jimi Hendrix's 'Foxey Lady' was a great early example of the way he rides feedback. Historically speaking, guitar feedback was seen as undesirable in music, and he really pioneered its use as an actual musical element. Barring its most relevant quality, 'Foxey Lady' is a catchy and fun track, based around one central riff. It is fueled by chaotically distorted guitars and Hendrix's soulful vocals. As is usual for all of this man's work, the focus and highlight is his guitar playing, which is powerful and unique- something I cannot say for many blues players. The b-side to this single is a song I like ever more however, 'Hey Joe' was originally the first single from the Jimi Hendrix Experience's first album, but it takes second seat for this single. It is dark, brooding, bluesy, and very memorable, and still stands as my favourite Hendrix track.
