5 stars In the early 1970s INDEXI were already an established legend of Yugoslavian rock scene, a reputation gained through frequent gigs at "pop" festivals of "beat" music (at the time "rock" was still an unknown term in Former Yugoslavian countries) and occasional singles and EP releases. Since they dared experiment in expanding the limits of pop song and record sometimes longer compositions, LP album format was a natural project to expect. Unfortunately, the discographic companies (state-owned of course) were reluctant to risk and instead forced them to keep making short pop songs for wider audience. This single released in 1971 was a result of obvious compromise - two fairly short songs capable for radio play, but containing complex arrangements and lyrics. Here, another new member appeared - R. Rihtman was clasically trained composer and pianist who took organ responsibilities. "Svijet u kojem zivim" ("The World I'm Living In") opens with memorable heavy guitar and bass riffs, followed by organ and strong Popovic's singing. Later on he backs the guitar solo with his instrumental vocal. "The life I am living now is everything I got", it goes. "Da sam ja netko" ("If I Were Someone") is a sort of "protest", socially-awared song about elimination of injustices and introducing love and care among people. Again Kovacevic makes wonders with his sweeping guitar solos, backed by eerie organ sound, while rhythm section goes marching down. Two classical INDEXI songs, both commercially popular and artistically important are present on this small and forgotten piece of vinyl called 7" single.
