Cosmic Hoffmann biography
Cosmic Hoffmann is Klaus Hoffmann Hoock from Mind Over Matter. During the years 1976-1978 Klaus joined the German band Alma Ata as keyboard-player, guitarist and lyricist. In the early 1980s Klaus was joined by keyboard-player Georg Mahr and lyricist Andreas Hub and established a band called Cosmic Hoffmann. After several but not very convinced essays, Klaus records more spacey /synth albums as "Music for Paradise" (1987) or "The colour of life" (1988). Recorded in 1992, "in search of eternity" is an epic symph-cosmic incarnation, featuring Cheriff Khalil (drum overdubs), Andreas Besler (bass guitar) and the Belgian electronic musician Patrick Kosmos. After those rather successful studio albums the band records "Live in Concert" (1993). The end of the 90's will mark a discreet new musical direction with more emphasis on electronic technologies. "Beyond the Galaxy" is an astonishing essay in dreamy soundscapes with long lost seventies analog synthesisers and Mellotron. The result is closed to Tangerine Dream and Edgar Froese's "analog" abstract electronic excursions. Released in 2000 "Shiva Connection" is a luminous semi-ambient work with many sequencers and spacey guitars. This one is considered as Cosmic Hoffmann's absolute masterpiece.

3 stars Many years ago a friend who shares my love for 'vintage keyboards', advised me to listen to Cosmic Hoffmann because the frequent use of my beloved Mellotron. He also told me that this musician owned at least 13 Mellotrons at his home but later he sold most of the them.. unfortunately I was not very rich at that moment! But back to the music, Cosmic Hoffmann does justice to his musical name because most of his music sounds very spacey/cosmic featuring beautiful Mellotron waves (often the violin section), soaring synthesizers and in the titletrack a fiery and often howling guitar solo along captivating, Arabian inspired synthesizer flights. In the less dreamy parts the music has echoes from 74- 80 Tangerine Dream, early Neuronium and early JM Jarre, very warm and melodic. The final, very mellow and hypnotizing composition Wanderers Of Time features as guest on synthesizer Ron Boots, the pivotal and prolific frontman of the new Dutch electronic music. If you like cosmic electronic, Cosmic Hoffmann will please you.
