Cravinkel biography
Obscure German progressive rock ensemble from the 70's. The quartet recorded their self title album in 1970 on Phillips. It contains country rock songs dissipate into proggy, psychedelic strangeness. Published one year later, "Garden of Loneliness" alternates conventional heavy rock songs with jam sessions. Their first has been reissued by Repertoire (1998) with bonus tracks.

Cravinkel Krautrock

2 stars The first from pop-ish krauty collective Cravinkel, combining a nice intimate pastoral flair with weird primitive folk and dynamic freak'n roll. Globally this one is more inspired than their second which sounds as basic heavy rock. The opening theme is a conventional, cool retro rockin song with efficient melodies and fuzzy guitar leads. Two circle is a moody-plaintive acid rock ballad built on dreamy-like wha wha guitar textures, highly emotional vocals, impressively intimate and beautiful composition. Lucy is a country like folk-ish tune for FM pop radio, very dated stuff. Heaven is a stoned acid folk ballad including acoustic guitar tricks, bucolic percussions and pop-ish vocals. Candlelight, Lonsome Road and Hidden Love are catchy-playful country-like rockin songs. A mellow sounding album with no real personal characteristics.

2 stars If their first was a weird folk obscurity, this last is just a vague collection of conventional heavy rocking compositions. We can simply notice an enthusiastic sense of improvisation during the breaks and lead guitar solos, including short soul jamming sessions, funky & jazzy rythmical accompaniments. "Garden Of Loneliness" is a strong, special and dynamic rocking piece with wha wha guitars, agressive vocals, occasionally featuring calming sequences with nice floating guitar lines. "Stoned" is a massive, punchy heavy rock sounding composition, including some acoustic guitar parts (during the break) and a technical drummy improvisation at the end. A proggy rock'n roll essay but absolutely not inspired despite some honest guitar leads and spontaneous instrumental demonstrations. I don't have a lot of to say about this album because it introduced nothing really captivating or original. Easy stuff to forget directly after one listening. Far to 70's German psych-fusion freakouts / mysticism despite that they are historically associated to the krautrock movement.
Thanks to Philippe Blache for the artist addition.
