Automassage biography
AUTOMASSAGE are a mysterious new post rock band from Slovenia, consisting of Slovenian and Austrian musicians: Gottfried Krienzer (of CODE INCONNU, KAUDERS), Rok Vrbancic (NEUF MEUF), Samo Ismajlovic and Markus "Maex" Sworcik of HELLA COMET. Not much is known about them, except that they have released their debut album in 2007 and an abriged version of it is available for free download.

The music of AUTOMASSAGE lies at the experimental and eclectic side of the post rock spectrum, relying on noisy cacophonies, minimalist repetitions, melancholic guitar soundscapes, meaty bass and electronic waves at the same time. Field sounds, acoustic chords, various bleeps and noises, brass samples and other surprising elements come to enrich the overall sound. While not really sounding like anyone else, the brilliant music of AUTOMASSAGE should be liked by fans of early experimental post rock (GASTR DEL SOL, BRISEGLACE, TORTOISE), eccentric post rock (KAMMERFLIEMER KOLLEKTIEF, BEATEN BY THEM, FOND OF TIGERS), the GY!BE galaxy (SET FIRE TO FLAMES, EXHAUST, A SILVER MT. ZION), heavy post rock (65DAYSOFSTATIC), noise rock (SONIC YOUTH, SHELLAC) or math rock (RUSSIAN CIRCLES, HELLA, DON CABBALERO). Quite a bouquet!

1 stars Hmmm'

Honestly I am not happy at all with this EP. I was attracted by the band's name, and also I wanted to know some post-rock from Slovenia, and also wanted to get some more free-to- download stuff (thanks for the opportunity) but well, this time the satisfaction never arrived. This band released their debut album back in 2007, and then decided to make a shorter version of it (I ignore why) and release it as an EP in2008.

A thing that is clear (and positive, I think) is that their sound is not the typical post-rock or progressive-rock one, not at all, they have a distinctive method, a quirky mixture of atmospheres, soft and hard tones with cacophonic rhythms which may be attractive to some people; with me they sadly did not have success, maybe it is not my type of music, but after several (believe me, several) listens my mind never changed.

Here we will find a bunch of short instrumental compositions that create different atmospheres and that play with noises and electronic samples. In some moments seems that the songs are going to explode or have a climax, but they all of a sudden finish. To me they could have exploded more their music, I believe they have the arguments to do it, because here I feel the songs short and without a clear direction, they left me with a sour taste.

I can mention that I do like the track named 'Ert', which happens to be the longest and loudest of them all. The other songs were not for me, I am sorry. Anyway I believe some eclectic post- rock lovers could enjoy this, after all everything is subjective. Well, my final grade will be one star. Hope you have a better experience than me. Anyway'

Enjoy it!
