Shattered Skies biography
SHATTERED SKIES are a progressive, groove-djent metal band, formed in UK in 2011, but with Irish roots. They released their debut EP ''Reanimation'' the same year, followed by the sophomore EP ''Pianomation''. Their full debut came in January 2015, entitled ''The World We Used To Know'' via HoldTight! PR. They have performed at numerous festivals around Europe, including ProgPower, Bloodstock and Euroblast and have played alongside acts such as TesseracT, ANIMALS AS LEADERS, MACHINE HEAD etc.

The band consist of Sean MURPHY(Vocals), Jim HUGHES (bass) (replacing James DUNNE who participated in the first two EPs), Ross McMAHON (Drums, Mixing/Production) and Ian ROCKETT (Guitars, Keyboards, Backing Vocals). They will appeal to fans of acts such as ANIMALS AS LEADERS and they rely heavily on melody, groove and a djent-metal approach.

4 stars 23rd April, 2021: Shattered Skies - Pianomation (djent, 2012)

An odd release, but not one I don't appreciate at least a little. Shattered Skies' debut EP Reanimation was one of my favourite releases of the original djent movement, mostly because of its use of shining clean vocals and symphonic riffs. This takes it to another level, redressing the songs with piano and even more symphonics. I would nearly say they're better versions, but the piano is blatantly fake and the production leaves a lot to be desired (although the original also had that issue). There are still some fantastic melodies here and I enjoy it, but I've never really seen the point of this release, especially when they never really seemed to develop their piano-centric side on later albums.

6.7 (2nd listen)
