Voted for Fireballet, not only because the art was so awful but the album within betrayed the great prog they released on "Night on Bald Mountain"...
OTOH, I've always loved the covers for "The Future Now" and "Weasels Ripped my Flesh"...

ewwww! Horseradish would have been better... could not stand the man's butt in a butt in a butt ...thing (although I voted for or against the Fire Ballet)? ! Was that a Russian Cycle or a Blue oyster cult symbol on the butt

I actually really like the Peter Hammill one though. It's got a cool concept to it.

I'll happily admit that Birthcontrol's Operation is in bad taste but that's what attracted me to the album in the first place.

I had trouble looking at the Eulenspygel - 2 cover. My vote goes there. Actually, it was kind of a cool idea, but very disturbing.

Terrific (or rather Terrible) selection there. My vote went to Savage Sons Of Ya Ho Wa, rivals some by Village People

That Ya Ho Wa was quite horrible, but I still went with AMT. That's mainly because their discography is filled with these nude women and horrible photo-shopping. Just look at Wild Gals A-Go-Go or Pink Lady Lemonade, those are just horrible.

I really like it as well. Caught it on the front-page some years ago and thought it looked nicely bizarre. It's a metal album, but I guess that's a given...

That is a top contender for me too, but I haven't voted yet. I am not sure which grounds I am basing it on yet...
This one is certainly among the funniest! Looks like a proto-gangsta photo shoot. I mean these guys were literally forerunner to hip hop fashion - only with longbows

Nick, I strongly suggest you check out the late 80's Van Damme flick `Cyborg', where he takes on these futuristic pirates! About 30 mins in JCVD's companion takes her top off, and I kid you not, you'll be screaming at the screen for her to put it back on. Now, I'm not some guy with massive expectations on how a lady should look, I appreciate the female form in all shapes and sizes, but it just wasn't a good idea here!
Oh, and for my vote, probably Brainstorm's drag-tastic `Smile A While' cover gets my tick here, luckily the album is a total knockout! |
Hahahahah!!!!!! I remember that rack!!! Sorry in advance to all the cohorts of women on PA, but I gather you probably laugh at men too. Hell, all it takes is socks in sandals(that'll have me chuggling as well though).
Great pick btw Mike. I'd pay big bucks to have that as huge poster in my livingroom. Just to see folks' reactions, when they see these fine bearded lingeri wearing blokes

No vote. This should be a multiple voting poll, and if it is, I guess I have to cast 19, maybe 20 votes.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this one and it is very simple, and one of his next albums clarifies it even more ... "SKIN" ... basically this is Peter ... no ideas ... naked and straight ... that's all there is to it, and nothing to hide, and his lyrics and solo work has always been like that! It's a very withit cover, all things considered, but we're jaded ... we want to see a nekkid grllll!

Hi, No vote. I would rather vote worst cover to something like Abbey Road, than one of these ... why? ... these have some humor in it, and the other is just an intentional inner joke that has nothing to do with the music, except that the folks doing it, have a bit of an ego, and love to show off and make you think that somethings are more important than others! "Hinten" is interesting, and the cover fits the concept ... rock'n'roll at its "raw'est" and no one will argue the music in there ... or worse ... most folks here won't listen to it, because it doesn't have keyboards! Not progressive! Fireballet, I remember when it came out and I laughed hard ... and the first thing I said was ... the music must be as bad as the outfits! Good gawd, even Misha looked better than that! So you knew the music was not serious or important! You guys forgot Diamond Dogs!

Wow there are some tasteless, lame and disturbing covers here. That Eulynspigel cover was changed after they sold about 7,000 copies. They just took out the dead chick, so yeah still tasteless. Never liked that Missing Link cover. It's just poor. Omega's is lame to say the least. Disturbing would go to Guru Guru. Worst one for me though is Supertramp's cover. Never liked it. My favourite is Catapilla's. Great record too.

The Future Now.
I remember being impressed with that sleeve art when it was released, even though I didn't know who Peter Hammill was at the time.
I wanted to have facial hair like that.
In the last 25+ years I've had various daft facial hair arrangements, but still never done the Future Now one.

Can't understand why the 'Catapilla' cover is included here ?? The LP is a gatefold, with a die-cut front (it's outline is the caterpillar eating the silverbeet) - clever and humourous .

It's the one cover that doesn't seem to belong. I'm guessing that David just has it in for caterpillars. Maybe he was attacked by one.
