Topic: Moonchild vs Providence Posted: March 18 2010 at 13:25 |
Haven't done a poll in a while, so here is a quickie.
These two pieces mar otherwise brilliant albums for me. Of the two, which do you prefer?

I don't think either mars anything, but then this is only my opinion. In any case, I voted for "Moonchild", which has always held a sort of odd appeal for me.

I think "Providence", but I like both tracks. Maybe I have a slight bias because the track is named after my hometown.

Providence being bad is news to me.
Moonchild's infamous status is, instead, undeserved. It's brilliant. Gets my vote, too.

"Providence" does not bring down Red at all and creates a great sense of darkness and paranoia.
"Moonchild" is one of the most boring w**kfests I've ever heard.

Providence is brilliant. My favorite piece on that album.
Moonchild is alright.

Having heard (way too) many improvs from 73-74 line-up, I still don't get why they chose the Providence one over other (imho) far more brilliant instant compositions. That said, I find this noodling a tad more interesting than the one on Moonchild. But then, Moonchild has a song in there, somewhere. Hard choice. Good thing the 2009 remaster of ITCOTCK cuts out a few minutes of the clatter.
No vote, really...

Those two are songs that I least like from each album, but I do get enjoyment out of both, more so with Moonchild.

Providence is the highlight of a basically decent album, Moonchild one of the many highlights of a great, great record.

Providence is a great track on a peerless album, whilst Moonchild is, to me, a slight distraction on an otherwise great LP.
