I've ignored Kayo Dot uptil now. Since it was strongly reccomended to me, I gave their latest a chance. And after three spins it sounds fantastic. And no metal there at all.
From the last time I tried them, I remember them as just another band, slightly more sophisticated than most postrock/progmetal or something. But nothing memorable enough to investigate further. I must have disliked the streams here. Plus a lot of people that likes a lot of bands I hate seems to love them. Seems like most of you don't consider Blue Lambency Downward their best effort, but are the two previous albums harder and more riffbased? As in more like the band I thought Kayo Dot were, than what I hear when I play the one I got? |

Over the course of OLF (the last twelve minutes), the most obvious change is the introduction of different rhythms that provide a driving beat. It's slow development because that's the type of development the song needed, but it ends in a vastly different place than where it began.

Please... how could I? My favorite review ever will never be touched.. i just added a disclaimer to comment about some errors I made about genres...
![]() I still think Pnoom has stolen my hallucinogens, though... I mean... development? In _on limpid form?
If i burn at the stake, I'll wear my DT shirt to the event... But many people will burn with me...

Eptaceros is the second best track on the album, IMO. Kandu vs. Corky (Horrorca) is my favorite. It's somewhat similar to Gemini Becoming the Tripod, only about five times as intense. Then "The Lugubrious Library Loft" is a really beautiful piece. "Brown Light Upon Us" is the weakest, but still pretty good (just a bit overlong). A bit too ambient to last for 18 minutes, but awesome nonetheless.
I'd say Choirs>Dowsing>Bath>Library Loft>Blue Lambency Downward>Leaving Your Body Map>Sixty Metonymies Also, have you read the about the different compositional approaches to each of the tracks? If not: http://www.kayodot.net/toby/libraryloft.html# Click on the "In the L..L..Library Loft (bottomish of the screen) and you can read about each track. It's really cool. |

Also, I hate Kayo Dot.
![]() On a more true note, I have come to like maudlin of the Well more than Kayo Dot. No joke. Just happened. Bath (review here) and Leaving Your Body Map are like two slices of heavenly perfection. |

Sorry, I just saw Pnoom saying dont review it and you agreeing and it annoyed me a bit. I cant say I've traded banter with yourself or Pnoom! much over the years so without smilies its hard to tell when someones joking or not. |

No I actually just looked and it still has 1 star. I thought I remembered it being moved up to two. Guess not. Edited by king volta - June 07 2008 at 11:15 |

The T toned his review down? maybe I'll have to do the same, I meant for mine to be the polar opposite of his
I remember it being arrogant and totally pseud-tastic o:) |

For the record, I was joking. Or not so much joking as not being serious. I, obviously, have no room to tell you not to review something, but I am as entitled to my opinion as your are, eh? Not sure about Pnoom! though. I don't care if you don't like them. Don't care at all. Also, if you read Pnoom!'s signature, you might understand where he's coming from. Give it one star if you want. The T did once, but I think he moved it up. I don't care personally. I gave it five, because I love every second of that album, almost as much as Choirs. ^In other words, you two dont want me to express my opinions in a review because they differ from yours. I think you've just won the awards for most obnoxious and stuck up people on PA.
BTW, it might be the endings of the last wo songs that I dont like mostly, but the songs a sa whole dont work because of that, and those two acount for more than half the album, hence the 3 star rating. |

Hehe. I have to agree. The album does not deserve 3 stars just because one doesn't like 1/2 of each of the finale songs, especially when the rest is so good. And especially when said songs are so good... I gave it five ![]() I must be a pretentious asshole or something, because __On Limpid Form is one of my favorite Kayo Dot songs; in my top 3. Here was my list from days ago: 1. Marathon 2. ___On Limpid Form 3. Right Hand Is The One I Want 4. The Antique 5. A Pitcher Of Summer (I just love these lyrics...) Though now I'd probably put BLD title track at number 3, as it's my favorite off the new album by far, instead of Right Hand...which I still like, but not as much. Point is, I really love __On Limpid Form. |

Exactly, I have "no volentiered (sic)"
And the ending of __ OLF is further away from the start of the "dreary section" than you think. |
