^yeah, Rough N' Ready! I love that one too, so groovy/R&B-ish rock.
 
I'm surprised you don't see the funk elements on Blow by Blow though, full of clavinet, funk guitar trademark, etc.

Head Hunters by far.  "Blow by Blow" is one of my least favorite Jeff Beck albums (I don't care much for "Wired" either).  My favorite is "Rough and Ready".  I never related the term "funk" with "Blow by Blow".  When it comes to Herbie & The Headhunters one name rings supreme when it comes to the funk, bassist Paul Jackson.  He is the main reason I can listen to that "brand" of funk for hours.

Yeah, I have listened to Graham Central Station's s/t, though not many times. I'll have to re-listen to that and Bootsy Collins' Rubber Band that according to John (Easy Money) he's one of the finest bass players ever.

Don't going all Gandalf on us. I don't have anything against funky things but Blow By Blow has been in my collection much longer and because the albums are sufficiently different, I went with Beck's just cause.

Yeah, that's what I thought, from what I know from you, you definitely are more inclined towards the more experimental style of Hancock.

I, for one, tend towards the more groovy Hancock, but do appreciate much of Mwandishi in small doses, especially Crossings.

Oh I see, well, Blow by Blow was also an album I used to listen to a lot some years ago, and now it has worn out a bit, but  I still like its brand of funk, pretty simplistic, but the addition of Jeff's guitar on top makes it worthwhile.
But yeah, I think Head Hunters is by far better in the composition sense and the grooves.

Gonna go for the Hancock brand of funk here.  I've had Blow by Blow for a long time now and used to give it a lot of regular listens, but now I barely pull it out anymore.  I still listen to Hancock fairly regularly (though since discovering the Mwandishi trilogy, Headhunters has gotten a lot less listens).

Pretty different in style, one is a showcase of the leader's talents while the band simply backs up funky rhythms, the other is a group work full of fresh ideas in the funk idiom.
 
What do they have in common? Both are funk-inspired jazz/fusion releases, and pretty successful both in their time.
 
Which is it gonna be, the guitar bites of Beck or the funkadelic Hancock?
