I don't think it's so much that they don't have a sense of humour but that they can't take a joke at their expense.
Just try saying something facetious about Dream Theater and watch the tears and death threats flow.

When Massive Attack sampled Billy Cobham, they were not regarded jazz-fusion but trip-hop, weren't they ???
