This result proves quite clearly that prog fans in the second decade of the 21st century have become much more mainstream-oriented than they used to be when the movement first started. In the Seventies, progressive rock was about daring and innovation, not necessarily abut nice music that caresses our collective ears. While TMV are definitely an acquired taste, and were not the most consistent of bands by any means, it is hard to deny their influence on many modern prog bands (just listen to Thank You Scientist if you need any further proof). As I said in my post of a few days ago, I do like UH, but there is absolutely no comparison between the two bands in terms of progressiveness.

Hah. Kati dear. I'm a big fan of Uriah Heep. In fact Salisbury was one of the albums that got me into prog as a child. Love the group, but loving a group doesn't mean you toss your objectivity out the window either haha

I don't ever remember a large fanclub for the group ever really taking hold here.
It always seemed to be a bit of a love 'em or leave em' kind of group. Not haters per se but definitely an acquired taste.
Then again Uriah Heep can be seen in the Camel mold of prog groups. Good band with some good albums but in all honesty can be described as a good example of 2nd division prog. Nothing particularly ground breaking or exceptional but very competent. It is about what I figured it might be. A close vote.
Micky naughty corner for you this time! hahaha!!! You are very naughty by calling UH 2nd division prog HAHAHA I think you know there were two eras of Uriah Heep first one with David Byron and Ken Hensley let me post 4 tracks of that era and if you still think they were 2nd grade prog, I'll accept that ok? hugs

The Mars Volta for me, although I do have a fantastic memory of seeing Uriah Heep as my first ever rock concert here in DK. Still, while I have most of their 70s output none of it really puts it's hand down my trousers. Nice background music though, if you're entertaining drunk Swedes in your apartment. Zeppelin will do the trick too

Yikes. Only mild enjoyment of both. I think I'll go TMV because the only reason I don't listen to them more is that they give me a headache. Whereas Heep just fails to make much of an impression at all.
