2. Il Bacio della Medusa - Discesa agl'inferi d'un giovane amante
It should be mentioned that, unlike Opeth, Il Bacio di Medusa's second album was nominated the best album by our Collaborators more than any other album (but lost at points). Surprising, impressive work, but let's give the mike to Honorary Collaborator and Italian Prog Specialist Finnforest on this one: "You really get the whole package here: amazing composition, passionate performance, great melody, and tons of enthusiasm and spark. This is a band that pays homage to the greatest ‘70s Italian bands, English bands like Purple and Tull, and even flash the bluesy burn of Wicked Minds or Jack White."

awesome....  that is a great frickin album...  up that high... because nearly all who listened to it.. had it in their first or second choices.  Not number 1... .because not that many have listened to it.

Only 1 made it into mine, but 2 others quite possibly could have if I had heard them.

My guess was pretty far off, except for Beardfish and Pendragon in the top 10. Oh well.

Have you heard it?

Can't say I disagree, since it was my nº1 choice as well, but I did heard very few albums from this year and, for the sake of prog, I do hope there is better out there. I'm by no means an Opeth fan - I only heard Damnation and Blackwater Park before Watershed, both of which I though were rather average. But this latest album really clicked, reminding me more of other Swedish staples of modern prog (Anglagard and Anekdoten, especially) and some other prog greats (Gentle Giant, Gryphon, Uriah Heep) than of other metal groups out there. Not a masterpiece at all, but featuring some of the most beautiful music I'd heard in ages and occasional glimpses of prog brilliance.

I didn't add Il Bacio di Medusa's album to my list, as I've only recently came across it. I found it a bit hit-and-miss (a lot like Beardish, my greatest disapointment after all the positive reviews), but it's still growing on me - even though I don't think it will ever top Watershed on my list.

Bigger on the inside.

Great work, and an interesting top 10.

I know one special collaborator who'll be extra glad over the album on place number two Wink

Great job, and I regret that I had not heard enough albums to feel comfortable voting.  Not my favourite Guapo album, but I had thought that Guapo's might make the top ten.  Dark Shot and Birds and Buildings are very good.  My favourite I've heard based on samples alone would be this:

At Work
4.00

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

The thought of Opeth fanboys breeding is almost as scary as the sound of Akerfeldt's growls.

I'm surprised none of the Opeth fanboys have "Bree"ed on this thread.  (Whatever that means)

You accidentally made a typo with Beardfish, by the way, mislabeling it Pendragon.

Right. I was copy-pasting the font and size...fixed.

I figured. Wink
