This. A much better album than Trespass, in my opinion.

Indeed. Trespass is nice and all. Actually, every single song is very enjoyable... but it sort of lacks some higher peaks... The Knife should be the high point of the album (and it's the one that's not pastoral at all). Harmonium's album is just wonderful, and "Histoires Sans Paroles" is for me one of the best prog pieces ever... perhaps overall my very favourite instrumental prog song.

Yeah, this song would seem pastoral enough indeed, as well as parts of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, and perhaps even "If"... but not the title track at all.

Good question........it's a matter of opinion as always but here's an actual explanation of pastoral

Since Atom Heart Mother had a cow on the cover, as someone said above,  that must be pastoral.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Though I like all these albums, Trespass is my favourite, though only a part of it evokes a "pastoral" mood, while "The Geese and the Ghost" has a pastoral atmosphere throughout the album.

I definitely prefer Trespass on this poll. Very underrated compared to Genesis' other prog albums.
Take me down, to the underground
Won't you take me down, to the underground
Why oh why, there is no light
And if I can't sleep, can you hold my life

The Geese and the Ghost gets the nod for this one.
Welcome to the middle of the film.

In this case, I think evocative of the rural/countryside (which rules out 'The Knife', etc.)

You can tell from the cover.

Gryphon ~ Red Queen to Gryphon three is very gud.
Don't know Anthony Philips ~ The Geese and The Ghost & Harmonium ~ blah! blah! blah!
Doesn't matter though, cause Trespass is so good. Genesis' first masterpiece.

I love Ant more than any artist, Harmonium's amazing, Trespass was never my favorite, but Red Queen is the one-and-only, the creme-de-la-crop. A masterpiece of masterpieces. Easy pick!
