Topic: Manfred Mann's Earth Band vs Alan Parsons Project Posted: April 12 2016 at 09:44 |

Both of these bands were pretty big when I got into music in 1979/80. MMEB was my first encounter with progressive rock and opened up an exciting world of music for me. APP was a favourite of my best friend at the time who also got into progressive, I kinda liked them but they had nowhere near the impact on me that MMEB would have. These days I still treasure the Earthband but hardly listen to APP.

APP is very good, but MMEB are exceptional.

I am a HUGE fan of MMEB. Specially 70's Albums . People looking to MMEB as a "Hit Maker Band" (as moshkito said and he right about it) but they have many great stuffs for Progressive Rock fans too. I pick MMEB easily!

I vastly prefer the sole MMEB ablum I've got (Solar Fire) to my three from APP (Tales of Mystery and Imagination - Edgar Allan Poe, The Turn of a Friendly Card and Eye in the Sky), so this was an easy choice.

Hi,
Didn't vote, either. Too many good things by both, making it a no choice kind of thing.
Although it is really hard to argue with MM's long list of hits for radio.

I'm still looking for a nice used copy of MM Chapter Three, vol 2.....I hope the local guy gets one soon. Not looking for any APP.

I love them both, and it is MMEB only a hair over APP. Give APP more love!

I guess Parson, but neither really tickles the fancy.

I'm a fan of Manfred Mann...so they got my vote...the only Parson's album I own is I Robot....and I haven't played that in years.

MMEB gets my vote.
Not a huge fan of either, but MMEB hits the spot more often. Roaring Silence, Solar Fire and Nightingales and bombers are all great albums. APP always leaves me wanting more. They don't excite me. I Robot has its moments.
